lovely car but, whats to stop someone unplugging it when its charging on the street.the range is terrible.how long do the batteries last and when there life is up i assume so is the car so that's only about 7/10 yrs.
Hydrogen-powered is the future. Honda has made a Hydrogen powered people mover which is better in every consideration.
AS far as I'm concerned the Battery-powered electric car is like the Beta Tape Player of this generation. Hydrogen-powered electric cars are the future.
The petrol cars emit the carbon in the town where we live. But electric factorys emit carbon away from places where people live. Electric cars is the future!
1. Green people should drive one because its greener than Gasoline and Diesel. 2. Right Wing Big business pandering God kissing people should drive one, because it starts getting us on AMERICAN ENERGY and off SAUDI ENERGY.
@twistervintagemotor Does all of us having Washers and dryers fry our Electric grid? Does New York City Fry our Electric grid? Do the lights and electricity in every gas station fry out electric grid? lol......
Test drove this car today, and I was really impressed. It's fast, quiet and extremely comfortable to drive. I'm sold, and most likely getting one soon.
What happens if this car gets t-boned in a horriffic accident and that battery that spans the wheel base ruptures? A big waste of time is buying gas for a car. Waiting 30 mins so I can drive a whole 73 miles is CRAP. You can have it i'll drive a real car.
@forestgreen98 Good for you, yet the car got Euro-N-Cap of 5 stars which I think is on YouTube and that most ordinary drivers drive less than 40 miles in total every day (in the UK and Ireland). While you drive your Micra or Mustang, I don't give a f*ck but get some evidence first before you get into these sort of comments.
why not let it charge from more than one charging cable at the same time(assuming it has more than one battery hooked together), and would that make it charge much faster?
Yeah it is revolutionary enough all the electricity we'll use we have to switch to solar panels wind blades etc......wait a freaken second :S why aren't solar panels on these new energy windmills? they should integrate them on the blades or on something on it..........
@Alvord1430 - Yes. But nobody runs around pompously claiming that their iPhone is a zero-emissions phone and that they are so much better than everyone else because of it.
@LeDiosaVerde Do you live in the UK? If you live in the US, how the heck do you make long trips? Just wondering :P I have never seen a charging station, so the thought of going anywhere outside of town would scare me, personally. That, and I'd hate to give up the ground clearance and cargo capacity and freedom to go over things that get in my way that comes with my Jeep...I would NOT miss the horrid 20 mpg I get. I like the idea of something like the Leaf- I just dont know if we're ready yet.
@sonbuhitsunei How about using a gas car for very rarely for long trips and using a electric car for daily commutes. This way you can rarely use gas. I think for most people the range of the leaf is more than enough for simple daily commutes.
@PoProstuKarol: in the US we get $7,500 in tax rebates for it, and when u factor in the LIFE of the vehicle, u save so much in fuel costs and maintenance, that its cheaper than a civic.
@PoProstuKarol Think about it, it's similarly speced to a VW Golf or Passat that will do 060 in 7.5-8s. It's very reasonable since many drivers I see are in medium-high spec VW, Audi, Volvo, Ford cars and Lexus hybrids.
@craniumdesigns What? The LEAF in Ireland is roughly $50,00, the same as the Model S. Besides that Tesla Model S is way worth it's value! And The average Salary in the US is <$50,000.
@toyotaprius79 other than the occasional moron, no one is gonna spend a year's salary on a car, probably not even half their salary. the model S is for people making at least 100k, which is less than 5% of the population. i'm sorry the leaf is so pricey in ireland. i doubt the model S in ireland will be the same price as it is in the US either though. also, the base model S only get like 160 miles/charge. u have to spend much more to get the long range models.
@kraftyay Wind and solar on the your home would be better idea. Wind generators wouldn't help on top of a car but solar may offset it by very little. You'll have to wait till solar energy reaches really high efficiency until you'll start seeing them on cars to actually power the car. Fortunately, this is only the beginning of electric cars. There's a lot of research on battery technology and solar technology that is being done. With that said, 100-130 mile range is ideal for some people.
You got a very impressive recharging system in Portugal. More than one thousand stations in an integrated system, about 50 are fast charging ones. It's called mobie electric mobility network.
I don't give a shit about how much CO2 any car emits, I just don't want half of my economy held to ransom by crazy Arabs with oil fields.
This is a great car to reduce the demand of petrol for the city drivers.
If every city-metro car owner opted for these 100% electric cars it would make petrol at the pump cheaper for people who still need petrol cars & would make petrol cheaper at the pump globally.
If China & India thirsted for these cars & not petrol cars, we'd pay a cosy price for petrol.
@GodBotherer1 not really, it wouldnt affect gas prices that much. You see you are forgetting a HUGE variable and that is the CURRENCY. Devalued that and gas prices will be high no matter what
What if electric cars are highly successful? Wouldn't the power companies need to keep up with the nightly charging? If there is an electric car revolution then we may need to look toward nuclear power.
No, because base load power output at night charging these cars (which a relatively small number of people will own but still enough to make petrol prices cheaper) will still oversupply the grid during off-peak when we are charging up our hot water systems.
Power companies will be glad their electrons are being used at night productively, rather then being wasted on street lights, late night TV & railway overhead lines.
Very nice review. I hate all those comments on some videos and on forums about the joruney from Electricity, going along the power lines to your car charger... when they don't even think about the journey from Oil to gasoline!
