I watch this about once a month. Your version brings me chills and it feels like I'm actually there. The sound of the wind at the beginning is very haunting. Well done.
@marqens keeping the metalic sound of the car mixed with wind sound in the background during the first camera travelling was a brilliant idea,we could really feel the emptyness of a desolate place....the battle stuff is not really of the same caliber in terms of credibility. We have trouble to hear the urgence, noise of debries interaction, foot steps on sand when they are running from side to side. Instead there's only a bunch of toys'r'us laser sound covering the major part of it.
thanks for your remarks. Lack of proper auditive scene is one issue, the cheesy quality of the shots and bad mixing is other. If I was to do that now I'd probably do a lot of FM tweaking and look for samples there. Regarding the space uncompleteness - The amount of the most obvious sound events and their movement in space was overwhelming and I might have forgotten about the big picture.
I want to ask you something. Can I use this video on a fanfilm that i'm making this time period. You will help me very much if you let me use it because that fanfilm (which we will be also uploaded on Youtube) will be shown on my school so it has to be good. PLEASE ANSWER.
P.S. Your name (meaning your channel name or your real name if you like) will be also included to the opening and closing titles
Hi just wanted to know what course you studied while at uni and where was it as im interested in sound design but all the courses ive seen are more based around music tech
some basic background effects are missing. I am not technical but what I sense is that the visuals are much more "full and heavy" as comapred to the sound effects. It sounds too "placid" as compared to the footage
Very nice! Not perfect, but nice. I see more happening on screen than I hear though, and the other guy was correct, some more bass punches are needed.
This isn't too bad. Although I have to say - since I study sound design for films myself and am quite ambitious - you tend to recycle effects a little too much. Partly this clip is very detailed and cool... partly it sounds... how should I put it... mechanical. It lacks the great rhythm and power that the original has.
Except pitch shifting, filtering and panning, there was no 'recycling' here. I think that artificiality of the sound is due to the fact I made it almost entirely in headphones (late at night) which took all the necessary spaciality away. After some time i think i should have also added some music to create a proper apocalyptic mood. well, one learns on his mistakes.
and about the original. Not to get suggested I refrained from watching any sound designs of this scene.

The absence of music usually throws people off.
Take away the music and this is what most scenes will sound like.

I wanted to like but sorry it just sucks. You should have just put the Benny Hill theme over it. Would have been a giant improvement.

IMO it needs more shouting in the background. The whole human resistance force is mute until somebody gets shot.

Why does the skull cracking sounds like dropping a bucket of nails?
Why do plasma blasts sound like an 80's arcade?
Why...
...Oh nevermind.

People often forget how important sound effects actually are. The better they are done the less obvious they are. Cool!

it was BA Sonic Arts in Middlesex Uni
Although, they wanted us to focus on interactivity and physical interfaces. The sound design was the first assessment. An excersise.

Pretty good! We did something similar while I studied sound technique so I know what you've been through :)

yeah, they would have to give you something this difficult wouldn't they? ((not being sarcastic))
i think the only thing harder than this would be the saving private ryan intro.but that's just my opinion.
