Not to rain on your parade, but you are missing part of the band, friend Williams. The guitar section usually has 2 guitars. One, as you correctly pointed out, is lead. There is, however, a thing called Rhythm Guitar. So, your 'difference' between Bass guitar and 6 string guitars is wrong. The difference is actually how you strum or pick the guitars and their roles. You can take that from someone who was in a band on stage and plays both rhythm guitar and bass. Bass is easier to play, BTW.

Rock Band consists of vocals, drums, LEAD guitar, and bass. As such, bass and guitar are different.

And bass isn't always easier. Some people have trouble playing rhythm instruments.

I'm thinking Rock Band needs a Rhythm guitarist as well, too. Sure, not all songs have Rhythm. In those songs, the Rhythm could follow and play a part identical to the lead, but playing this same part during the solo instead of the solo. You see what I mean?
