Just never took part of the story. And he pulled a bad trick and the mask controlled him. Go to the ending of the game, you see that the mask only used him as a puppet. You fail.

@MegaMan1639 Skull Kid must have been friends with Saria, since it's the same one you sell the Skull mask to in OoT, and he knew Saria's Song when you play it for him to get a Heart Piece, and she only teaches that song to her friends.

It's an indication that the moon is in geosynchronous orbit above Termina (it orbits around Termina at the same speed that Termina rotates, so it appears not to move across the sky like the sun). Or, because of its huge role in the plot (including hitting Clock Town), Nintendo kept it always visible above the town, day or night, so you could see it creep steadily toward the town. Either one works, depending on if you want a scientific explanation or not.

This would explain why there are counterparts of Hylians in Termina and also why Koume and Kotaku aren't necessarily evil in this game.
