  • Tibet recorded 2.25 million tourist arrivals in the first half of this year, up 24.8 percent year-on-year, according to figures released by the region's tourism bureau on Thursday.

The region's total tourism revenues went up by 39.65 percent to reach 7.14 billion yuan (1.11 billion U.S. dollars) during the period, according to the figures.

  • The bureau estimates that the number of tourist arrivals will hit a new high of 7.5 million in 2011. Tourism has become a pillar industry in Tibet, as its infrastructure and transportation have been significantly improved in recent years. The region receives over 10,000 tourists daily.

The Lhasa Gonggar Airport sees nearly 60 arrival and departure flights each day, while the three civil airports in Nyingchi, Qamdo and Xigaze handles 62 flights each week for tourists.

  • The Qinghai-Tibet Railway has transported over 10 million tourists since its opening on July 1, 2006, helping to drive up Tibet's tourist numbers, according to Padma Choling, chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

By the end of 2015, Tibet expects to host 15 million tourists annually and post annual tourism revenues of 18 billion yuan, Padma said.

  • loved the old man at the end hehehe

  • The video gives fairly good coverage on the subject.Freedom of speech and thought is our birth right. This is missing in China today under the communist regime.

  • Jasminelitchi

I spent more than 2 months in Tibet , lived 14 years in India and Nepal with the Tibetans, and was married for 14 years to a Tibetan woman. I have first hand experience of the Tibetan suffering over Tibet, and I know many Tibetans whose family members were tortured and killed by your CCP. Have you been to Tibet? It is a different situation in Tibet, then in the rest China where they are experiencing more freedoms which is great!.

  • sorry for u poor married monk, i got a sound suggestion to you then, If u want freedom, go try to get it, fight for it, and never give up, just take a gun and try kill as many Chinese people as possible... remember, no blood no freedom...

  • Tibet has been a state for a long time. Like the Russian communists, China felt that it should act the same way by the illegal annexation of Tibet. If China ever had some sort of compassion toward the people of Tibet why do I hear so much discriminating stories told by the Tibetans? Why do I see so much video material taken by the Tibetans about military suppression and torture? Why do I see so much killed by the military? FREE TIBET!

  • plaese have a look in China ,not by others, just by yourself

  • I've been in Tibet, I've seen it. Maybe you western Chinese communist should see Tibet for yourself to find out what's going on. Jasminelitchi, you're blindfolded and tied by the communist party of the CCP.

  • the answer to the most of oversea tibetans is very simple: assuming tibet is an independent country, I bet 99% of overseas tibetans are not willing to go back to tibet for living because they are used to high quality of living standard in western countries. Tibet is just their dream land for the worship. DRUGS AND ALCOHOL are playing much important roles in their daily life than pursuing their spiritual peace.

  • The suffering has been caused by draining Tibet for 50 years by the CCP. I bet if 100% of the CCP will leave Tibet the suffering will end. Ask every Chinese in the west if they want to go back.... They will say also no.

  • I think that a day without laughter is a day that's lost. Even through hard times people need humor to survive. I think the Dalai Lama has a lot of humor. If you compare him to George Bush I hope you see exactly what I mean. The world needs more spiritual guides and not political dictators. The first ones let you be free to make life as for what you want for yourself. The last ones are only responsible for wars sadness and hatred. True religion is not forced but by the power to live life in joy.

  • In Tibet today, there is no freedom of speech, no freedom of assembly, no freedom of press and no freedom of religionThe Chinese government is determined to wipe out all traces of Tibetan national identity in an attempt to stifle any form of dissent among Tibetans.

  • go and have a look in China

  • Tibet WAS,IS,and ALWAYS WILL BE a part of China

dharamsala tbegs WAS,IS,and ALWAYS WILL BE 4 legs crawling animals.

dharamsala tbegs WAS,IS,and ALWAYS WILL BE beggars

dalai lama WAS,IS,and ALWAYS WILL BE a terrorist !!

tbegs WAS,IS,and ALWAYS WILL BE spammers !!

  • The Chinese people should know that the Dalai Lama is not asking for an independent Tibet. He doe not mind being holding a Chinese citizenship and live in a genuine autonomous Tibet region where the Tibetans are free to practice their relgion and culture. Tibet should remain a part of China. Tibet can't survive on its own without the help of the Chinese government. I am a Tibetan and was born and grew up in India. The Dalai Lama has approached the Chinese brothers and sisters sincerely.
