  • i like how it says something about a caution for asbestos on the oven

  • Am I the only one that thinks the girl baking the cake is extremely cute? Anyone know if she's single? lol

  • i bet thats really expensive cake... lol

  • I watch cause of their accents =D lol

  • Why do you need safety goggles in making a cake?

  • OOOO LOOK AT THAT, THAT'S CAKE!

  • How about the chemistry of a birthday candle for next year?

  • coation asbetstos on oven

  • "...And many more..."

  • The umbrella is just amazing

  • You dont deserve anything other than a c ake of.........

  • @jqs1943 Somebody ought to lay off the space cakes...

  • If you divide planet earth's diameter by its age and work the quotient down to the one second time period, the anwser is 3 billionths of one inch. Since frequencies are measured in seconds, then we can say that a cycle of evolution exists for a fraction of a second, a second or slightly over one second. Those frequencies that are cut off prior to the one second time period, produce a field around the weave that lasts the remainder of the second and serve to weave other atoms and form molecules.

  • @jqs1943 TL;DR you smoked to much weed

  • Think of it this way and you will understand. The entire universe is pervaded with energies in the form of frequencies, or electromagnetic waves. This frequencies exist as unique families of frequencies that are responsible for the inception and evolution of specific elements or life species.Their arrays form the theta waves of the universe which are the intelligence responsible for every thing that exists therein. When these energies intercept at different vectors they weave intrinsic lattices.

  • I LIKE YOUR TIE

  • yeast f*@ts out CO2

  • Did you know that chemical elements are weaves of energy that interrelate with different value to establish specific elements? An atom is formed at average rate of 3 billionths of one inch per cycle of evolution, or 90 billionths of one millimeter. A cycle of evolution is a variable of time that lasts a fraction of a second,a second or slightly over one second. The element that develops is dependent upon the frequencies that interplay in the weave. Intrisic lattices of matter can be synthetized.

  • @jqs1943 That doesn't make any sense.

  • Hard bread? I dont' know about you, but I have to put up with it for 8 days out of the year. :)

  • 5:35: God is also important in making these reactions happen.

  • It involves match-on-a-stick™ so you know it's going to be good.

  • 22 people are ignorant to the wonders of science and cake.

  • I wonder if they make industrial chocolate. :D

Also, was anyone else really let down they didn't get to eat it? :C

  • where can i get that wonderful umbrella

  • You are amazing! I am in the 8th class of school and the project that i made for my chemistry teacher rocks! Really thanks about your help! :)

  • i didn't know that you could get industrialized vanilla. (vanillin). i mean it even had the formula and the exact compounds!

  • Comment removed

  • I had a Chemistry quiz yesterday in which I had to find the empirical formula of Vanillin

    I got the question wrong

I should've watched this video sooner

  • the cake is a lie

  • happy belated second birthday!

  • I've heard people say chemistry is the least important subject of study. we have had a copper stain on our counter for a few months now, and I just realized that I could react the copper compound with aluminum to remove the stain. The stain is now gone. Now tell me chemistry isn't important?!? :)

  • Keep up the Good Work, Lads and Lasses :-)

  • You could probably eaten the whole thing before you put it in the little oil bath pot. Those are disgusting.

I wonder how long the cake would last in a 1000°C muffle oven...

  • I love your videos, they are interresting and intering =)

    greetings from a german chemist^^

  • happy b day!

  • WHOA that made me JUMP!!!!! lmao n1 you guys one day you might getting me walking threw your doors but not for a while yet im afrade :(

  • fuck the oven apparatus contains asbestos. i'm not eating that cake.

  • love the umbrella :P

  • @andyroo37 Me too! Anybody know where I can get a periodic table umbrella like the Professor's?

  • really nice videos thank you

  • I just discovered the feed for this from someone else's recommendation. I love having the opportunity to learn about chemistry in a more accessible manner than I would have gotten in college -- I'm a soft science sort of person. :D

  • Also, vanillin is no full vanilla. This cake is really as unnatural as a chemical product.

  • Lol. The most unhealthy cake in the world. No vitamines, minerals or anything in it. Just sugar, fat, and sugar (starch is not much better). Bah.

  • and chemicals

  • Nice umbrella u've got there Professor :)

  • That is a nice looking cake.

  • hahahah....very interesting cake...:-))

  • Hahahahaaaaa!!!!! :D:D:D

waste of time, money, energy LoL

    great job, thanks :)

  • Thanks for all the great Videos

  • My god. O.O

    man has finnaly done it!

EXPLODING CAKE! so if you ate the cake and farted a little of the cake gas in front of a fire. would your asshole explode? o.o

  • He must get all the lay-deaze with his umberella

  • i thought he was wearing a wig at first :P ... and that woman has a man voice :P

  • omg i want his umbrella !

  • WHOA LOOK AT HIS UMBRELLA AT THE END!!!

  • CAKE

  • this is 2 good

  • why were goggles?

  • init

  • there might be other more dangerous substances around....or maybe for the sciency effect. just a guess i dunno... lol

  • It's a rule in a lab. You must always wear goggles whenever there are dangerous chemicals etc. around.

  • good job

  • Good. But did they really have to explain the science in words of one syllable?

  • "CAKE IS A MADE UP DRUG!" :p

and yea, my home oven may not heat up that quick, but it doesn't have asbestos in it, and my kitchen mixer didn't cost $3k and mixes butter / sugar in seconds - i think they cheated, that IKA mixer was doing a horrible job

good videos! and thanks for the effort

  • Who's the old boy with the glasses and mad professor hair...he is brilliant and should be on TV!

  • he was like that from birth.

  • he would look funny as you like if he straightened his hair!

  • Prof. Martyn Poliakoff; he's a chemistry professor at the university of nottingham. He should be on TV! That would be brilliant.

I'm looking forward to going to the university in september; I'm actually going to be taught by this guy for the first few months. It's going to be hard to keep a straight face.

  • I love that periodic table umbrella , where can i get it????

  • Fair point (I was joking- all fields still have a lot to contribute), but I'd say biology has furthest to go. We're only just scraping the surface in.

I'm excited about the LHC, but that's the sort of budget particle physics needs to push the boundaries.

It's quite hard to clarify ideas in YouTube comments.

I'd recommend James Gleik's "Chaos" (incredible book), where he takes an interdiciplinary view of the sciences with respect to chaos theory.

  • My dad's better than your dad.

  • Wonderful video. I love watching them.

  • C of C. LOL

  • blubbyly and soft :)

  • i science debate

    cooolll...im playin

    i say chemistry rules

    biology creeps meh owt

and physics is alrite but no as excited as chemistry

  • lol Chemistry sucks, physics rules!!!

  • biology can pwn chemistry and physics!

Seriously. There isn't much more for physics to discover that's going to make a difference.

  • "Seriously. There isn't much more for physics to discover that's going to make a difference."

La la la la i'm not listening it's all lies!

  • Don't worry, I was joking. Just a bit of over enthusiasm for my beloved bio sciences.

I just read 'Chaos'. James Gleik set me straight re. Physics. Brilliant book.

I do stand by the point that biology is the science churning out the greatest number of new discoveries.

However, I'd say understanding physics is still one of he most important things in science. It's the most complete of the sciences, but it raises a lot of unanswerable questions.

  • Yeah It's Not Like Biology Is Just A Sub-Section Of Chemistry Or Anything. *Whistle*... :)

  • and its not like chemistry is a subsection of physics or anything *whistles* ^_^

  • I Did Both So I'm Happy To Go With That Haha! Viva La Physics And All That!

  • Well said.

  • Well said! But it's the most interesting branch (come on, it's a chemical reaction that freaking walks around!)

  • That's A Fair Point My Friend! So By Combining The Two, For The Next Episode, The Cake Will Have Legs! It Could Walk About Tempting "Pleasantly Plump" People =D!

  • AWESOME UMBRELLA AT THE END

  • Did You Notice The Facebook On the Computer?

  • mmm I noticed the asbestos warning label on the oven...

  • Who doesnt like a bit of asbestos, eh?

  • excuse me but font be so rude. Both my grandad and my great uncle died of asbestos. I find your comment very upseting.

  • Indeed I share in your love for science and the amazing things that can be found in this world. I hope you keep making more and more videos, and in doing so gain funding from somewhere so as to continue educating everyone everywhere! Thank you so much for the mind tickling videos, I hope to see more!

  • yeah can deffinetly tell he has some kind of career in science..

  • that guy totally fits the stereotype of a chemist

  • @nicholas9254 yeah, he totally got that hair when something exploded in a test tube.

  • @nicholas9254 Professor Poliakoff doesn't fit the stereotype of a chemist;

the stereotype of a chemist fits Professor Poliakoff.

  • deep way of saying all the things that's around us is chemistry.

  • Happy Birthday, here's to another year of fascinating chemistry!!

  • I wished this guy was my chemistry teacher at school. I totally sucked at the subject, but at least it would have been interesting with him! :D

  • Hello Friend! I commend my video, I hope that I will help to meet this dream.

Declaration of love and wedding request!

  • Happy bithday and thank you very much. What you doing is amazingly interesting. Will watch you :)

  • Who else thought Pete and Neil were going to be rodents?

  • birds hhhhhhh

  • OMG he has a periodic table umbrella.

  • um...that's a pretty flat cake in the end...lol

  • that mad scientist had a crazy hairstyle !!!!

  • dfasdfasd

  • the umbrella!!!

  • hell yeah that looked so familiar.

  • no entiendo nada ingles yo si que no puedo opinaar jajaj

  • an asian with a british accent, quite noice~!

  • adf

  • ROFL on the End nice Umbrella....

  • just for fun.. doens't look tasty, can't eat anyway...

  • actualyy getting something like this into the mythbusters tv show would be great. mythbuster way of course

  • ive always hated chemistry......

    this video didn't help enough.......

  • Not at all. You need an acid so that the hydrogen carbonate is protonated and becomes carbonic acid. Upon heating, carbonic acid decomposes into carbon dioxide and water.

  • wow

  • Oh noes, you cant eat the cake?

    THE CAKE

  • IS A LIE

  • The cake is a lie lol :D

    Indeed ^,^

  • so there goes our money - wasted in making cakes and then to blow them up.

  • loool at the "CAIIIKE"

  • I love your hair profesor ;p

  • Chemistry - gotta love it!

  • thats awesome :D we share a birthday! can't wait to see you all in September!

  • I know this has been said a million times before, but I want is umbrella really bad!

  • brolly..

  • lol, cool umbrella!

  • I absolutely adore that umbrella! Must...find...!

  • Ditto!: )! SO good lol

  • The "Campbells soup" tin was an advert for students to take a vacation placement with the soup company!

Thanks for your kind messages. We have big plans for Year 2

  • This is absolutely the best series going, period. Had chemistry been taught like this in "my day", I just might have stuck with it. You folks have an absolutely wonderful program going; keep up the good work! I hope your videos find their way into the elementary school system; start young. Cheers on your 1st anniversary; may there be many more to follow. (Canada)

  • whoa

    we share a birthday

    AWESOME!

  • I <3 Chemistry!

  • This is an really interesting video to watch as a baker & Pastry chef w00t. Luv the doctors hair<3

  • i think the professor in the beginning should put the cake in his hair :D

  • Did anyone else notice the can of Cambel's soup behind him. I think thats what it was.Why is it there?

  • lmao, well spotted! its his lunch probably xD

  • I love this video :D

but mostly i super love your umbrella!

    where did you get that?

  • Great hairstyle ;D

  • I am waiting for your next video to see what happens to the cake. Great stuff.

  • @sirbarksalot195: No need to wait - video is done! Check the video response!

  • Ooooh that's cake!

  • flower of weed??? MMmmmm space cake!!!

  • d umbrella is so cool

  • whooaa! loved the ending.

and thank you for explaining the chemistry with baking. =)

  • so cool, man i love science!! but hate physics, chemistry and biology is fantastic.

  • @SulthanaB226: Check out our sixtysymbols channel... It is all about physics - might make you think differently?

  • Physics is awesome. Chemistry is awesome. Biology... Meh :P

Hence I study Chemical Physics :). Lol

  • you broke my heart. i study biology.

  • Lol. Sorry man! I find the human body AMAZING but everything else (ESPECIALLY plants etc) I find hideously pointless lol

I say that, most of what I will study in later years will be mostly pointless too lol

  • But you forget the wonderful chemical things that come from plants, Michael: heroin, absinthe and marijuana come to mind... *smile*

  • Haha True:P

  • if im honest, i have two reasons to hate physics. 1 is that its the most difficult for me as opposed to chem and bio, and 2 is the whole "big bang" and its theory on the universe, and how humans exist. that aspect of science just seems absurd, i read about it in Angels and Demons.

  • i agree with you about physics and how its kind of crazy and respect your opinion but i would give it more of a chance than what Angels and Demons says idk it might just be kind of an unreliable source on some aspects seeing as its fiction

  • don't read a fiction book to get your idea's on scientific theories

if you want to learn about the big bang, just go to the wiki page, it's pretty good

  • Angels and Demons isn't exactly the best place to get scientific information.

  • Thank you guys so much for increasing my interest in my new-found major!

  • Absolutely fascinating!

    Thank you and Happy Birthday!

  • LOVE THE UMBRELLA!!

  • me 2 XD

    Where can I get one?

  • just like you you pea brain sturg or surg whatever you stupid fucking name is bozzo the clown i think ha ha ha

  • booo! down with unintelligence!

  • Brilliant ending! :-)

  • Congrats on your 1 year anniversary!

Also, I'd love to know where you got that umbrella haha.

Some would be surprised to know that almost everything we eat and wear (cologne/perfume) are made of esters (such as vanillin used for this cake.)

    alkanoic acid + alkanol = Ester + water :)

  • These people are my heroes!

  • Found you via the featured videos...stunning

  • cool. but the girl says so a lot :P.

  • There's no sense crying over every mistake

You just keep on trying 'til you run out of cake

  • And the science gets done, and there's research to be done, on the people who are still alive

  • wow an asian with British accent, now that's somethin

  • Why is that surprising? Britain has black people, too -- that must really impress you!

  • your not einsteen mate

  • lol. doesnt matter if it was made in a lab. id eat it :3

  • dose'nt change the fact that the cake is a lie

  • best comment ever
