i took the gold batterys out of a 9 volt battery and put it in a drawer, 3 months later it exploded and it went from that black ash-like stuff to a white color
Okay. But on cost reasons, the cell are assambled blowzy. Micro particles of metal can get into the wrapped cell. After some time, the metal particles get through the confining layer. Then it's all too late and we have a short inside the cell. The cell will produce toxic dust. If you notice it, GET THE CELL OUT AND THROW IT AS FAR AS POSSIBLE!
It's also good reason not to buy any shit off eBay. I always test them - also, if I plan to build a battery pack with this kind of battery, I always consider put in a microcontroller - it's much safer that way.
Didnt buy it off e-bay. This was the result of 'wear an tear' the helicopter it was attached to had crashed a few times resulting in damage to the cells.
That caused it to explode when charged. I was simply trying to warn others that this does happen.
my xmod lithium battery exploded and caught my carpet on fire. burned about 3 paches 6 inches across. if i wasnt home our house would be smouldering still. DO NOT BUY XMOD LITHIUM BATTERIES OFF EBAY!!!! 600 $ DAMAGE TO CARPET!!!!
I think the reason for this blow up is the 110V -> 250V Adapter... I have seen, you have put the fire out with WATER. DON'T USE WATER! Lithium reacty hardly with water, especially in such a unstable situation...
well if you push Ni-Mh batteries too hard they produce gas which can explode... so for RC boats i wouldnt use cheap batteries in combination with brushes motor :P
If it Exploded While Justin Beiber Was Next to it,THAT WOULD BE EPIK! Thumbs up if yes its EPIK!

Yes that would be EPIK

"Sorry I never got video of the flames - was too busy putting out the fire."

No - see coment above - not the adapter! And I used a mist spray rather than water thanks. And only after disconecting the power.

Yes but he means that lithium is an alkali metal which explodes on contact with water.
Glad to know everything was okay :)

Yeah - true. Good information too.

Just another boring science experiment eh? But lithium is the weakest alkali all the same. Now francium.... there's an alkali
CZMQFRG 4 years ago
oooh, yea. get me some of that...

*drools over francium*

@CZMQFRG will we get francium batteries next?

Looks like a 120/240 volt adapter to me.

Judging by the wall adapter style charger, was it an e-bay battery? if it is, theres your problem ;)
