  • Shame Al Gore!! 1:42 Shame!

  • I don't get the point of the Beastie Boys other than some people understand this blatant racism?

  • @SmogHouseTradingCo beastie boys are jewish.

  • American occupation of near east- Okinawa, Philippine Islands, Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq

  • @holytemplar

Okinawa: Far Eastern Island belonging to Japan, rejected.

Philippine Islands: Far Eastern Island Group, rejected.

Korea: Never occupied, rejected. At the farthest East of the Asian Continent, rejected.

Afghanistan: Shortly occupied after toppling the Taliban 'government', then given to a newly formed Afghan governement.

Iraq: Shortly occupied during the few weeks of the war, then given to a newly formed Iraqi governement.

Check your definition of occupation, please. Thank You.

  • u.s. troops are "occupying" space in all those countries

  • @holytemplar Said died in 2003, this video was created before Iraq was invaded by the USA.

    Read a book.

  • @TheFreePisces gj pointing out when the video was made and when Said lived, but there's no reason to be hostile...

  • He does not sound like a tough grizzled old soldier but some kind of dandified nancy boy, who is afraid of wars and he is indubitably no sea-dog but the sort of pasty landlubber I have always despised. I'll warrant, the most exciting thing that has happened to this limpid prawn in a whole year, was the day when he forgot to put sugar in his porridge!

  • @GreatGrumbledook Your mom called - she told me to tell you to get off her computer and pick her up. You're late again, Timmy.

  • @professionalstrongma: Fellow, I know thee as a knave; a rascal; an eater of broken meats; a base, proud, shallow, beggarly, three-suited, hundred-pound, filthy, worsted-stocking knave; a lily-livered, action-taking knave, a whoreson, glass-gazing, super-serviceable finical rogue; one-trunk-inheriting slave; one that wouldst be a bawd, in way of good service, and art nothing but the composition of a knave, beggar, coward, pandar, and the son and heir of a mongrel bitch: ...

  • @professionalstrongma: ...one whom I will beat into clamorous whining, if thou deniest the least syllable of thy addition.

  • eerie with the twin towers in the background. wonderful video nonetheless, what an intelligent man he was

  • eerie with the twin towers in the background.

  • Excellent video. Thank you. This reminds me of the "3C's" in French colonialism.

"Civilisation by Christianity and Commerce." Three CCC's!

  • PS. I like Beastie Boys more now

  • Thanks for the upload. Great vid

  • The problem is, the more we come familiar with the islamic faith the more we know why we must reject Islam. It would be irresponsible for journalists not to inform the public about it.

  • @bhigr What do you mean by "Islamic faith"? The Quar'an itself? 9/11? women in hijabs or burkas? Rejecting Islam is a personal matter, but it gives one no right or reason to objectify and stereotype several nations of people (I did not say you are, though I think you may be). There are reasons to reject any religion if one so chooses to do so. And it's the public's own responsibility as well to educate themselves. The Quar'an can be found most anywhere books are sold, or even posted online.

  • @SaiKoSeSu Islamic faith? The religious ideology called Islam! I reject Islam because it is not true and because it is amoral, evil. Does that mean I reject all muslims? No, I take every person as an individual before I pass judgement.

  • he speaks English but really his body language is so Arabic lol

  • Great upload! Truly insightful and educational. I absolutely love Said's work - I think its crucial to understand the continual misrepresentation of the east, especially arabs and islam.

  • great man

  • I know hes such a clever paki, he realises that the middle east is a shithole full of terrorists and roaches and needs to be nuked....great man

  • @sodiumfan fuck you, you piece of shit

  • you will die for those words infidel, Allah has seen your evil ways, your children will pay with their blood, all hail Allah Ah Bin Sheik

  • my children will pay with pork

  • I agree with many things that he is saying but I think hes taking things like action movies way to seriously. The media itself does not paint all Muslims as anti American crazies just the ones that strap bombs to themselves or burn/stomp on American flags.

  • im a christian who would still burn and stomp an American flag, Israel to Palestinians is what America is to the natives. Australians to the natives. i cant accept the US if i dont accept israel, they follow the same concept of error.

  • @USMC2nd O rly?! Anyway, he wrote the book in the 70's.

  • @lovelygreebo

yea really, he talks about how he updated what he was talking about and how it had gotten worse. those Chuck Norris films didn't come out till the mid-late 80's

  • @USMC2nd It has gotten worse. Luckily he died before he can see this depressing truth.

  • so true...the West always see the Orient undevelop and inferior people..and this should change..

  • Israel is simply a bastard nation of europe and america

  • Comment removed

  • Osama bin Laden has placed our image in the dictionary near the word evil. . After 911, In supermarkets, banks, govt. offices, they had this poster of the 19 hijackers (5-7 of whom were still alive) & a banner which read "THE FACES OF TERRORISM"......a local radio station said daily, "If you see Suspicious looking ppl. call bla bla.meaning Arabs!! What in the world was on his mind when he did that? What a scar that man put on the Arab face. millions of Arabs have been killed b/c of that Devil.

  • I think it's realistic to say that he has been, or could be, an asset of the CIA; my reason is because of the kind of relationship he had with them over the years when the Soviet Union was in Afghanistan.

  • Very true, and well said, mate.

  • very smart man i

  • I appreciate that religion is important to many people. Still, how scripture can serve as a blanket excuse for what would otherwise undeniably be categorized as crimes or atrocities... is beyond me from a psychological and moral standpoint.

For me, no vague promise of divine 'salvation' at some undefined point in the future could ever outweigh the need to respect humanity now.

  • sure does. at the return of Jesus

  • the answer is simple, Israel has held Palestine under military occupation since the 1960's. The nature of this occupation is brutish, racist, and totally unnecessary. It no exaggeration of rhetoric to compare the state of Israel to Nazi Germany. If you look into media sources such as Al Jazeera, or other networks that are balanced and have journalistic principles, you will learn a lot about region.

  • i agree that israel's ocupation is unnecesarily violent and racist, and things have to change fast. Yet to compare it to what the nazis did is totally idiotic. Not only are the ideologies radically different, but so are the objectives and methods. Al Jazeera certainly dosent portray the ocupation as a remake of Nazi crimes, and if you do, your perception of history is completly distorted.

  • If you can't afford to pay your mortgage you lose your property. This ideal has remained true since the monetary system was instilled throughout the world. You cannot (rightfully) go into a country that is owned and occupied by natives and declare that it was your property thousands of years ago.

If the Anglo European occupcation of America were going on today do you think it would be widely accepted? Said is not trying to demonize but idealize and to rationalize.

  • I denounce the U.S. government for occupying Iraq, why can't i denounce the Israeli government for occupying Palestine?

P.S. The bible also said that stoning women, destroying cities, constantly seeking revenge, etc. are appropriate. Sooo..Fuck it.

  • @aewester I think u are widely mistaken, the Bible did not say that stoning women and constantly seeking revenge are appropriate. Jesus saved an adultress from being stoned. And the greatest commandent of the Bible is LOVE; not lust no sex, it's love for one another as ur self and God.

  • It also says there was a talking snake and a magic apple..LOLOLOL

  • lol that's so silly.

  • It does amazes me when people can get moved by Kids and women bombed in a barricaded place as big as a park ( that they left as a "country" to the indigenous Palestinians)...we don't need to demonize them...they have showed many times how unhuman they are...

  • American occupation of near East.... IRAQ!

  • Yes. But one must ask, as Wittgenstein would, Who is talking here? Who is "Edward Said?" Has he not been colonized? If so, does it matter?

  • i fear Wittgenstein may never have asked any of these.........

  • I really like the point he makes in the last sentence of this clip - very insightful & even applicable on a person to person level!

"Islam is a useful 'foreign demon' to turn the attention away from the inequalities & problems in our own society."

  • Look on youtube for SARA ROY - she is an Israeli/pacifist professor at Harvard University.

  • thanks for sharing. this is by far the best video i've viewed.

  • I've just encountered Said's writing for the first time and I regard him as a fascinating, erudite and welcome voice of intellectual dissent. Our mass-media's lazy, biased and arguably dangerous portrayal of Muslims, the middle east, and all peoples considered "other" than ourselves should be opened up to criticism where ever possible.

    Thanks for the post.

  • Said is awesome, and it's a shame that the screeds of half-rate "imbedded intellectuals" like Bernard Lewis are given so much playtime, while Said's are ignored.

  • but beingan investigative journalist isdifferentthana career in the media

there is a shortage of investigative journalists

  • i said i would not comment anymore, but if Nadia Blacton, the beautiful and brillant asian studies student is out there, it was an honor xnowing you at International School of Islamabad when I was a teen, i had a huge crush on you, but xept it to myself to hide the disillusionment, in any case, He was a person lixe you, a genius and a beautiful person

anyone who calls him bs has never understood his context-the truth-about ourselves and our lies

  • this is gold stuff

  • He was the best man of the humanities

Anytime that I have misrepresented Islam, Arabs or people of the Middle East for facetiousness or jest at myself I will remember this man

I am glad this is on youtube, so clear headed and perceptive, his deepness is what I hope to achieve one day to be a better person and he is so contrary to dubya, in his articulation and ability to unify and convey his message

  • he is a gem. what he was saying is completely right. The world had been brainwashed and still is

  • Saids vision and wisdom are lessons for all of us

and another reason I never want a career in the media

    distortion is horrible and perverse

which is what the US became in his absence with AbuGhraib

  • what does Islam do with gays?

  • as if Islam is some individual that could be psychoanalyzed. I think you might want to reframe you question in terms of what are the Islamic laws in regards to gays or something? In that case it varies from person to person, house to house, community to community, etc. I for one am Muslim and my brother is gay. What "Islam" does to him is- nothing. I however love him, I don't agree with his sexual preference, but I have no right to judge him. I do believe God will judge everyone though.

  • my question remains the same, what does Islam do with gays?

  • what does christianity do with gays?

  • You wouldn't need to remind people of Ibn Warraq if his book was any good. I've read it and it's truly bs. I don't agree with everything Said says but at least you can learn a lot about writing itself just from reading him.

  • jgarahan: Edward Said made his arguments visible and warranted them all with scholarly accepted theories. Whereas all you do is make some unsubstantiated claim. I think the least you should do is adress an argument and allude to some type of evidence to back it up.

  • well, now there has been an American occupation of the middle east (Iraq)...

  • I need this program on DVD...where can i get my hands on it???

  • One of the best books of the past decade...

  • its a fact not a theory, just don't flunk the exam

  • Yeh great! I have an exam on his theory, very helpful!

  • Rest in peace, may Allah have mercy on your soul Edward Said

  • Allah?!? lol.......Said was a Christian.

  • Lol?? Allah means God in case you didnt know. And yes again, may Allah have mercy on his soul. He was a great man and not afraid to tell the truth. And I know well he was Christian.

  • yep, Arab Jews, Christians and Muslims use the word Allah for The God.

  • thank you so much for uploading, u cant imagine how this was helful to me

  • He is simply the Best. Thanks for upload
