I have lived in Washington, DC since 1972. I first heard Sweet Honey in 1973 at the Folk Life Festival on the Mall. At the time, they had just recently been formed during a vocal workshop that was part of DC Black Repertory. These ladies are long distance runners under the visionary guidance of Bernice Johnson Reagan. What a blessing their voices and their testimonies of life well lived are.

You say Sweet Honey in the Rock is a "bit unknown." I've known about them, and seen them occasionally, for nearly 25 years. Perhaps I'm privileged and recognized them early as a local group when I lived in the Washington, DC, area.
