I've been a huge Chains fan since the early 90s and I totally support them in this endeavor. However, I would have kinda rather seen them rename the band. It's kinda like trying to call it Led Zepplin without having Robert Plant as the singer.
Layne's death... was a bit of a shock to me, this band in the 90's changed my life and helped me with what I (very proudly) am today. Layne was unique but something must be noted, while it's impossible to have back Layne or the feeling only him could give to any song, no other band can make their music sound as Alice In Chains always did, keep Layne in the heart as inspiration and support these guys because no one else could do such powerful music.

It is not the same without Layne. I like AIC mostly because of Layne´s passion, energy and feelings he showed with his voice. Once a guy told that Jerry was the main writer, but, you can´t build a fast car(song) without a good pilot to drive it (Layne). I mean its not awful - but is missing Layne's vocal hook thats for sure and to be truthfull sounds a bit dated - it reminds me of a band in the late 90's that was heavily influenced by AIC but were never quite as good as the original which is sad really - when the original starts to sound like a weaker imitation - that being said its still better than Nickleback and most of the post-grunge retreads out there - Id liek to hear another single - maybe something accoustic tinged

Well, I was afraid too, most of bands loose their uniqueness when they change a band member (specially a singer...) But that didn't seem to happen! I really like the new sound, its not the same, sounds a little more heavy, but its pretty nice and I am looking forward to this.

They shoulda renamed the band... Tunes sound great but Layne Staley my friends is/was the voice of AIC... Cantrell could've carried on the band singing lead... I saw some of his solo stuff at a Creed concert in NY a while ago and Jerry played some Chains songs and sang them, it was amazing. New stuff is great, I would have loved to see Brett Scallions try out for this part. Woulda been a great fit! Bottom line AIC is still makin tunes!

Yeah, this would've been GREAT with Layne singing in 1991... very good in 94 and ehh still rockin but lacking power by 99. Layne was the best in his prime but was already deteriorating as a vocal monster by the end of the dirt tour. He became a better singer's singers as far as his vocal subtleties and whatnot in his latter AIC stuff... but the sheer power on facelift wasn't EVER seen again.. Ex. Love Hate Love. Thanks speedballs and lines. Let's remember the greatness of Layne but move on.

My god Jerry's guitar sounds so fucking meaty!!! Williams vox are spot on! and the bottom end well it speaks for itself. These guys are more mature and just sound kick ass. This is a pretty awesome song. I feel William Duvall will have a bright future with AIC. I admit he's no Layne Staley but he fits right in with the band. This song sounds different than other AIC songs. it is just not the same as their other great songs. with that said it would almost make sense to rename the band.
It gets tiring to read/hear about people whining how they shouldn't call themselves Alice in Chains. You know, back in 1980, I highly doubt anybody bitched when AC/DC released this album called Back in Black (you may have heard of it), with a singer named Brian Johnson who replaced the departed Bon Scott. I don't even remember that many people bitching in 1986 when Van Halen, with Sammy Hagar on vocals, released 5150. Jerry had it right when asked what backlash fans might have-@#$ 'em.
I like very much Jerry Cantrell's style (as a guitarist and singer), this surely sounds like something a full Alice in Chains would sound like today. But I think they shouldn't use the Alice in Chains name, it's unfair to cash in using all the publicity surrounding the name.
And this song is way overlong. Not much going on there to stretch it along 7 minutes. Great riffs and melodies though.

reminds me of some of the songs on degradation trip, I like the music but I feel that no matter how good it is you just can't recreate what was AIC in the mid 90's, kinda of like trying to recapture your first high. Also when your younger music just sounds better and has more impact.

Yeah, I was surprised how much singing Cantrell actually does in AIC's songs when I went back and listened for who was singing and when. I can't wait to get the new album. This is my favorite band ever. :D

It is not the same without Layne. I like AIC mostly because of Layne´s passion, energy and feelings he showed with his voice. Once a guy told that Jerry was the main writer, but, you can´t build a fast car(song) without a good pilot to drive it (Layne). I´d like them to look for someone at least with a 50% of the voice Layne had. Layne R.I.P.

I mean its not awful - but is missing Layne's vocal hook thats for sure and to be truthfull sounds a bit dated - it reminds me of a band in the late 90's that was heavily influenced by AIC but were never quite as good as the original which is sad really - when the original starts to sound like a weaker imitation - that being said its still better than Nickleback and most of the post-grunge retreads out there - Id liek to hear another single - maybe something accoustic tinged

Well, I was afraid too, most of bands loose their uniqueness when they change a band member (specially a singer...) But that didn't seem to happen! I really like the new sound, its not the same, sounds a little more heavy, but its pretty nice and I am looking forward to this.

They shoulda renamed the band... Tunes sound great but Layne Staley my friends is/was the voice of AIC... Cantrell could've carried on the band singing lead... I saw some of his solo stuff at a Creed concert in NY a while ago and Jerry played some Chains songs and sang them, it was amazing. New stuff is great, I would have loved to see Brett Scallions try out for this part. Woulda been a great fit! Bottom line AIC is still makin tunes!

Yeah, this would've been GREAT with Layne singing in 1991... very good in 94 and ehh still rockin but lacking power by 99. Layne was the best in his prime but was already deteriorating as a vocal monster by the end of the dirt tour. He became a better singer's singers as far as his vocal subtleties and whatnot in his latter AIC stuff... but the sheer power on facelift wasn't EVER seen again.. Ex. Love Hate Love. Thanks speedballs and lines. Let's remember the greatness of Layne but move on.

My god Jerry's guitar sounds so fucking meaty!!! Williams vox are spot on! and the bottom end well it speaks for itself. These guys are more mature and just sound kick ass. No new band could sound this good. This is years of experience!! Jerry is the king of taking one riff and just turning it into a masterpiece!

This is a pretty awesome song. I feel William Duvall will have a bright future with AIC. I admit he's no Layne Staley but he fits right in with the band. I'm sure hardcore AIC fans don't like a new member in the group but I'm willing to give William a chance. I'll be looking forward to their new album with it comes out in September. It's gonna be awesome.

It gets tiring to read/hear about people whining how they shouldn't call themselves Alice in Chains. You know, back in 1980, I highly doubt anybody bitched when AC/DC released this album called Back in Black (you may have heard of it), with a singer named Brian Johnson who replaced the departed Bon Scott. I don't even remember that many people bitching in 1986 when Van Halen, with Sammy Hagar on vocals, released 5150. Jerry had it right when asked what backlash fans might have-@#$ 'em.

I like very much Jerry Cantrell's style (as a guitarist and singer), this surely sounds like something a full Alice in Chains would sound like today. But I think they shouldn't use the Alice in Chains name, it's unfair to cash in using all the publicity surrounding the name.
And this song is way overlong. Not much going on there to stretch it along 7 minutes. Great riffs and melodies though.

reminds me of some of the songs on degradation trip, I like the music but I feel that no matter how good it is you just can't recreate what was AIC in the mid 90's, kinda of like trying to recapture your first high. Also when your younger music just sounds better and has more impact.

okay, i agree with accepting the loss of Layne, even though i think he fits better, this guy hasn't dissapointed me. plus call me deaf but the guitarist is singing most of it,atleast the lead, and i hope the new album has alot more of him, because he is good at what he does...like heaven beside you, layne hardly sings in that song. but i give this song a good rating and plan on getting the new album. good show AIC
