You don't have to use Cineframe 24p, In the user manual it says using Cineframe 30p will give you a better movie look then the cineframe 24. look it up.
The HDR-FX1 does not actually have a true 24p setting. It actually skips a frame with its Cineframe 24. Thats why it looks jittery on the LCD screen. The real film look is the contrast that the particular setting provides.
Personally, I'd shoot in 30 frames, or even 60, and then convert that with a filter in post production. There is no way to shoot 23.98p on this camera
whoever rated this comment a thumbs down...I happen to own this camera. It's a fact that it does not shoot 24 frames per second. Sony has their Cineframe 24p so that consumers can "feel" professional when they use the setting. The mode drops a frame.
You must not know anything about this camera if you rated me a negative one.
I think you posted this video before YouTube allowed High Definition / High Quality publication from home cameras, or it just hasn't been selected that way.
Or the software you have used downscales the quality of the videos. It may be a program which just does that, or that is in the settings selected. Recently I edited a home high def. quality film with ArcSoft TotalMedia Extreme (Showbiz), and it downscaled the quality severely. 1440 x 1080 film became poorer than most V.G.A. def. films.
Film shoots in exactly 24p. Digital, such as a PMW-EX3 or RED One camera shoots in 23.98 frames per second, which is as close as you can get. You will see this difference in frame rate when watching a Quicktime movie trailer.
no, it takes MiniDV media. Really, I recommend whatever you can afford. At the time, solid state camera were way out of my price range, and so I bought MiniDV. I didn't actually get into HD until about a year later.
No, it can shoot in a mock 24P mode called CineFrame24. It's alright, but not great. For this, I shot in 60i and did a 24P conversion using several software bases.
Yeah, the FX1 films in 1.85 or 1.78:1 (this is for sure HDV). I have exported in 2.35:1 myself, but that was in post. You have to crop off some of the frame in order to do this.
Well if you shoot 60i then doing a pulldown is useless, since that is what a pulldown does... matches 24p footage to 29.97 for tape.
From my tests, I found the best quality, fastest and easiest result for getting the 24p look...crazy as it sounds is shooting CF24 mode. People say it looks like crap but truthyfully its pretty good. The final product is great for the time you save by not processing 29.97i to 23.976p. U will always loose some quality by deinterlacing though.
Creo que la DVX100B o A es mejor que la Sony FX1 si para cine. Sí, esta cámara es alta definición, pero la DVX100B o A va a darse mucho más para la cuesta.
The FX1 dosnt have 24p, it has some weird picture profile that simulates film. I was led to belive that it had 24p, and I bought one. If it really does have it and its hidden in a menu somewhere, where is it?
i thought this cam didnt have 24p

whats 60i please tell me and how do you turn up the frame rate on the hdr fx1 the manual tells me nothing
please help obi wan your my only hope
enemoj 2 years ago
60i refers to 60 interlaced frames per second.
The camera does not have selectable frame rates. You could turn up the shutter speed, I suppose.
What exactly are you aiming to accomplish?

I love the music. What is it please? Can you say who the musical players are? They're great. Do you have the recording info?

The music is by Brian Keane- it was composed for "The War That Made America" PBS television special

Thank you.
I realise it was pro. recording or nearly that and YouTube don't generally allow for that, or didn't so much back when you posted this.

It's the frame rate that traditional film shoots in. 24P = 24 frames a second (or 23.947)

No, its a faked 24p. Besides, film shoots in 24p, digital shoots in 23.98 frames per second.

Did you use any effects in post? Or is this exactly how the camera captured the images?
PaulGarafola 3 years ago
This is how it regularly captures images.

was that filmed with Cineframe 24? Also, with what editing software did you capture and output?

I have a question. Does this camera havea higher frame rate? More than 30 fps?
sybyabraham 4 years ago
No, the FX1 is only 60i/1080i. If you want a camera with a higher/lower framerate, look into the Panasonic products.

i didnt think the sony hdr fx1 had p24 mode....
how did you do this??
coddi25 4 years ago
The FX1 does not have true 24p, instead it shoots in CF24, which is a mimic at 60i. All I did in this was do a 2:3:3:2 pulldown in SONY Vegas.
tricofilms 4 years ago
No, native frame rate for DV tape is 30fps, so it's a mimic of 30i, which is closest to 24 frames to begin with.
ratkins0687 3 years ago
Nice video, by the way.
chchaisson 4 years ago
CineFrame is not true 24p, it's just a simulation. It doesn't look anything like 24p.
chchaisson 4 years ago
This wasn't shot in CF24. I shot it in 60i then did a 24P pulldown in post. But yeah, it still doesn't look very 24P'ish.

go picture profile the go to pp4 settings and it says cinaframe mode, click that and set it to 24
