Taking the attitude that "this is not [genre], this is [artist]" pretty much says "the idea of a genre is dead, let's only talk about artists." I'm sorry, but that's entirely not useful. 1) People like to classify 2) Consumers like genre names, as it aids them in finding other music they may enjoy (the only point in 'genres') 3) Art is not created in a vacuum

@godemp Totally agreeing with you, plus one thing: For finer classification there also exists the concept of subgenres (taken up to eleven if you like to), like "Death Metal" as a subgenre of Heavy Metal. Is just helps.

Also, @LeFapper the concept of a genre is about classification "based on some set of stylistic criteria" (taken from Wikipedia's article about genre). So what we do is classify e.g. dubstep by it's characteristic base line. And there's nothing bad about that imo.

@Max95B I'd call it electro. Dubstep is defined by a tempo around 140 BPM (This is 110BPM) and a halftime rhythm. Some would disqualify this from being electro and instead call it moobahcore or some shit.

Honestly though, these genres - Drum and Bass, Dubstep, Drumstep, Glitch Hop, Complextro, Electro house, etc - are so muddled at this point. It's like there's a new genre everytime someone turns the tempo dial and uses some new rhythms. If it's focused on a bass drop, just call it Bass Music.
