I'll bet the intake is only there to prevent debris from damaging the pump. Fish tend to swim away from anything that is pulling on the water that they're in. As far as whether it's actually flying, who cares! It looks awesome whatever you want to call it.

However, if the market is there it will come down considerably in the future. I'm sure it has a protective cover over the water inlet as to stop fish and other debris from entering. @thesebflynn It actually has a gas powered pump at the end of that hose that takes the water from the body of water you're in and pumps it to the pack you wear through that large yellow hose. As long as there's gas in the tank, you can keep going.
