I think he did recognize someone in the audience....maybe he was feeling surprise that "this person said they couldn't make our gig - but showed up anyway" After all, he smiles as if he is happy anyway.
For me, this is the most beautiful rendition of this song. Love what they do at the end of this song and the harmonies are so tight. They sound s beautiful here.
