take a look at the ZR1's torque and hp and take a look at the Z06's hp and torque!
the more powerful car is HARDER to launch right without melting the tires :>

@bigenginesismythang and just to help you out...when you see a car that traps low 11's but the trap speed is 125mph (give or take) what does that tell you? its obviousl a 10 second car but what hold's it back is the TRACTION! That is the reason there's so many 10 sec stock Z06's on Drag Radials instead of Goodyear F1 Runflats (so sad tires..)

@xabipp no, alot of sports cars run 11s or 12s but have insane trap speeds because they aren't geared for acceleration, thats why vettes usually go 11s but have a 10 second equivilent trap speed. Not because of traction.

@oriclepro09 right, if the gears were a little lower (numericaly) you could stay in 3rd and not loose the time shifting but suffer 60' but still a high mph. Then if you had some I'm guessing 4.56 gears you could take full advantage of 4th which obviously gets you there quicker but not faster. I dig what you are saying.

You can get over 1000 rwhp without even touching the internals of the motor. simply twin turbos and a tune, look up the price of a heffner 1000 rwhp kit vs the lingenfelter with similar power and see whats replaced and how much it costs. The ford will start to sound like a bargain
Ya tire chirping doesnt meanshit but what seperates a ZR1 from any Stang is the engineering, the technology and the Raw performance.
The ZR1 does 0-60 in 3.2 w/o LC and 0-100 in 6.8 secs ECU limed to 205MPH
The Suspension and Brakes alone cost more than a new Stang.

I don't like the GT500 (except for the 2011). The 07-09 GT500's are fat and don't handle and cant put power down.
@DODODOK I agree. GT500s are huge cruisers that offer great performance for their size. They're muscle cars. Corvettes are hardcore sports cars, 2 seats, they sit on the ground, virtually no interior insulation, very light, etc.
Compare a GT500 to a Camaro with an LSX and it's LIGHTS OUT. Compare the new 2011 Mustang GT and it smokes the new Camaro. It would be cool if ford created a sports car to play with Corvettes.

@svt11111 They did it was called the Ford GT. It only lasted two years, was alot more expensive than the corvette and it's performance was slightly below par with the corvette.

Mid engine, a one-of rare car from the ground up, hand built body, hand designed leather/brushed aluminum interior, fully built 5.4L, twin screw blower, (not a roots like in the ZR1), German Ricardo 6spd, (not a T6060R that's in Mustangs and Camaros), etc, etc.
The Z06 and ZR1 are cheap because they're built off a $40,000 base Corvette with over 50,000 mass produced a year.

@Rastamut Like the ZR1? ha ha, the ZR1 uses a T6060R the same transmission used in Mustang, Camaros, base Corvettes, etc. It has TWO overdrive gears, 5th and 6th.
The FGT is rated at 205mph out of the box, and it has almost 90hp less than the ZR1, produced 6 years before the ZR1.

I know the FGT can go 205 but it acheaved at 5th gear, unlike the ZR1 where the same top speed is reached at 6th gear. That being said, from 0-200 MPH, the ZR1 will leave the overpriced FGT in the dust.
@Rastamut The ZR1 is faster than the Ford GT, Chevy designed it 6 years after the Ford GT, of course it's faster. It's just a Corvette on steroids. The Ford GT when built was meant to beat exotics like the Ferrari 360 Modena, at it's time the Corvette C5 Z06 was Chevy's fastest sports car.
As for gearing, the gearing in the ricardo 6spd is superior to that of the T6060R in the ZR1. 5th gear is 1:1 in the GT, unlike the T6060R which is 5th AND 6th gear overdrives.

@Rastamut It's not a big deal, whether it's European or American the transmission is SIGNIFICANTLY superior. If you haven't been paying attention, the Ford GT recently CRUSHED the standing mile record at 266mph. The reason for it's record is first it's superior aerodynamics and second the transmission which can handle well over 1500rwhp in even 5th gear.
The T6060R is a mass produced transmission used in Camaros and older GT500s.

@Rastamut I'm replying to a comment. I'm not talking about the LS9 engine which is based off a pushrod architecture from 1998 fbodys. Because the fact is, both the motors are extremely stout and definitely not the weak points in either application. The FGT motor has made well over 1200rwhp on the stock internals. The ZR1 motor that's not been out for long has made over 900rwhp on the stock internals.
I respect what makes the FGT more exclusive and expensive, regardless of the video.

Man this is amazing. I can remember about 20 years ago 10 second cars were being trailored to the track because most cars that quick were not even streetable. Now a ZR1 commes straight out of the factory running 10's.
What is truly amazing is that the car ran those numbers with a so so sixty foot. Can't really tell from the distance but the board looks like it showed a 1.93 sixty foot. Just imagine if it hooked, and pulled a 1.4x sixty foot. That is truly an amazing vehicle....
Hard to say, as now that I look at it again it does look like a 1.43, but how can that be though. Consider the 133-mph trap speed, if it really was a 1.43 sixty foot then he should have been closer to a10.0 ET, wouldn't you agree....?

It is'nt that heard to see he starts from a standstill, the moment he starts so does the clock; it's legit and there's no argueing it. I bet if you bring this video to car and driver or any other highly regarded magazine the would agree. I'm a mustang fan but that Z-R1 is that fast and i respect it.
And one more thing about the staging tree, if you sit there at the green light, your time does not start..until you break the stage lights...lets say a car runs 10:00 everytime...and if you sit 5 seconds after the green, you would still run a 10:00 when you finally took off..either way, red-lighting, or sitting at the green, the tree lights have no factor in elapsed time. The tree is just used to make a race fair (like taking off before the other, you get a red light and lose)

The tree lights have nothing to do with your elapsed time. In other words, you could take off right after the 1st yellow, and still turn the same time as if you started on a green...the tree is only to even the race, or handicap a slower car fairly, nothing more.
Harlon i know what your saying but your forgetting two things. 1 hes already closer to the 1/4 if hes rolling over the line before the lights green and 2 hes starting to build up momentum and speed before he should. Both will give you a lower time in the end.
@sayit8ntso harlon2u is right...it doesn't matter. If the tree's two staging lights r on ur staged at the same spot everytime. Once u budge the clock starts, even if u start at the first green, or sit there for a whole day. Once those tires move even the slightest, the sensor makes sure there isn't a distance advantage so it starts ur time. You can't gain any advantage unless ur rolling and the two top lights haven't staged u. You need some track time, then u'll know exactly what we're saying.
there is another video of another driver hitting 10.74 @ 133.21 mph and it was a clean pass in a bone stock zr-1 no red light either. A stock zr-1 can run high 10s with a good driver, it has been proven multiple times now
Buy a road & track magazine or some official noting of a ZR-1's 1/4 time not a youtube video of it and youl see its posted as low 11's i have yet to hear of a stock ZR-1 doing 10's

Magazines are not the end all and know all of automotive performance. There was even a guy who scraped a 10 sec pass out of a stock z06. Z06s are low 11sec cars. I know it is hard to believe, especially when you are loyal to the GTR. Another third driver on the corvette forums hit a 10 sec pass @ over 130mph trap, so it is more than possible in a zr-1

GM will never come out and officially claim such numbers, they love to under-rate their cars instead of hyping this up to the nth degree and having their customers feel like they were deprived.
Youtube and other avenues such as streetfire show individual users displaying a factory stock car's capabilities in the real world. It is just as valid as any magazine tester holding a video and capturing a test of a certain vehicle
I like the way you argue your opinion but it doesnt mean what you just said was valid. An official noting of it is the real fact and proof. And i like the GTR but that doesnt mean i cant appreciate the ZR-1.

Esp when there are videos of individuals who own zr-1s putting up 10.7 and 10.8 ETS with trap speeds over 132mph stock contradiicting your opinion that the zr-1 is only a low 11sec car, it is clearly faster and capable of a 10 sec quarter pass as proven by these videos w/ a good driver
Just because magazines are unable to reach this height or GM doesnt state it openly, doesnt mean it is impoosible to reach.
Something to notemagazine testers, test cars when their job says to. Factors can be weather, track, DA & so on. Also in the back of the magazine where they have all the stats of every car the bottom states all cars are tested with throttle lift shifts, which can also account for a few tenths. Maybe that's why 1/4mil times vary so much, along with driver & etc. People that own the cars get more seat time too, & learn the cars every detail...we all know ZR1 demand seat time & a skilled driver.
is INSIDELINE and Motortrend being chicken of this car cause they were only mustering 11.3sec at 130.5mph runs that means a well tuned with drag slicks zr1 is capable of 8.9 to early 9sec runs

@sladey121 1st gear is 2.29, rather tall it is. Z06 does about 62 as well , with only a 2.66 1st gear, but that is because it revs 500 rpm's higher.

@DODODOK Corvettes are just better overall performance cars, the ZR1 does the 1/4 mile in 10.7 Secs no Muscle Car will touch that.. Corvettes are Sports Cars yes you're the 1st Ford guy to understand what that is.
The Vette naturally would also do well in the 1/4 mile seeing as its really light with alot of HP.
But the Funny thing is when a GT500 gets beat by a base Vette and Ford fanboys just dont understand. Raw HP alone doesnt make a car fast.

And the PRICE reflects this. Still on the other not of comparison since we are stuck on this, the 03 Cobra could hold its own against the vette of its day. (Quoted as Corvette level performace)
I don't like the GT500 (except for the 2011). The 07-09 GT500's are fat and don't handle and cant put power down.

@DODODOK I agree. GT500s are huge cruisers that offer great performance for their size. They're muscle cars. Corvettes are hardcore sports cars, 2 seats, they sit on the ground, virtually no interior insulation, very light, etc.
Compare a GT500 to a Camaro with an LSX and it's LIGHTS OUT. Compare the new 2011 Mustang GT and it smokes the new Camaro. It would be cool if ford created a sports car to play with Corvettes.

@HEMIH3AD A definition of a muscle car is a midsized coupe sold at an affordable price for street use and drag racing..Z06s and ZR1s are expensive and small lightweight 2 seater sports cars intended for high-speed touring and road racing. They have a powerplant that could be used in a muscle car, that's for sure. : )

@TrippyJoey The FGT was created 3 years before the Z06 and it was a true exotic. Mid engine, a one-of rare car from the ground up, hand built body, hand designed leather/brushed aluminum interior, fully built 5.4L, twin screw blower, (not a roots like in the ZR1), German Ricardo 6spd, (not a T6060R that's in Mustangs and Camaros), etc, etc.
The Z06 and ZR1 are cheap because they're built off a $40,000 base Corvette with over 50,000 mass produced a year.

The FGT tops out on 5th gear, where the 6th gear is for, ahem...... overdrive... Pretty sad for a 150K sports car with a "European" tranny. LOL

@Rastamut Like the ZR1? ha ha, the ZR1 uses a T6060R the same transmission used in Mustang, Camaros, base Corvettes, etc. It has TWO overdrive gears, 5th and 6th.
The FGT is rated at 205mph out of the box, and it has almost 90hp less than the ZR1, produced 6 years before the ZR1.

@svt11111 ,,You're missing the point. What Im saying is that the FGT "European" 6th gear is pretty much useless, except to save gas. I know the FGT can go 205 but it acheaved at 5th gear, unlike the ZR1 where the same top speed is reached at 6th gear. That being said, from 0-200 MPH, the ZR1 will leave the overpriced FGT in the dust.

@Rastamut The ZR1 is faster than the Ford GT, Chevy designed it 6 years after the Ford GT, of course it's faster. It's just a Corvette on steroids. The Ford GT when built was meant to beat exotics like the Ferrari 360 Modena, at it's time the Corvette C5 Z06 was Chevy's fastest sports car.
As for gearing, the gearing in the ricardo 6spd is superior to that of the T6060R in the ZR1. 5th gear is 1:1 in the GT, unlike the T6060R which is 5th AND 6th gear overdrives.

@Rastamut It's not a big deal, whether it's European or American the transmission is SIGNIFICANTLY superior. If you haven't been paying attention, the Ford GT recently CRUSHED the standing mile record at 266mph. The reason for it's record is first it's superior aerodynamics and second the transmission which can handle well over 1500rwhp in even 5th gear.
The T6060R is a mass produced transmission used in Camaros and older GT500s.

@Rastamut I'm replying to a comment. I'm not talking about the LS9 engine which is based off a pushrod architecture from 1998 fbodys. Because the fact is, both the motors are extremely stout and definitely not the weak points in either application. The FGT motor has made well over 1200rwhp on the stock internals. The ZR1 motor that's not been out for long has made over 900rwhp on the stock internals.
I respect what makes the FGT more exclusive and expensive, regardless of the video.

@Greendude33 Exactly, i think motortrend did a test and the supersnake wasnt even faster than the GT500. All the extra power is wasted on wheel spin. Ford should make a new, higher end car and not just putting huge power in a car that you can buy for $20,000, lol. I never liked the Ford GT, too expensive and looks kinda weird.

Man this is amazing. I can remember about 20 years ago 10 second cars were being trailored to the track because most cars that quick were not even streetable. Now a ZR1 commes straight out of the factory running 10's.

What is truly amazing is that the car ran those numbers with a so so sixty foot. Can't really tell from the distance but the board looks like it showed a 1.93 sixty foot. Just imagine if it hooked, and pulled a 1.4x sixty foot. That is truly an amazing vehicle....

And one more thing about the staging tree, if you sit there at the green light, your time does not start..until you break the stage lights...lets say a car runs 10:00 everytime...and if you sit 5 seconds after the green, you would still run a 10:00 when you finally took off..either way, red-lighting, or sitting at the green, the tree lights have no factor in elapsed time. The tree is just used to make a race fair (like taking off before the other, you get a red light and lose)

@sayit8ntso Im not being a smartass, but red-lighting has nothing to do with your E.T As soon as you start rolling, (no matter if it is before or after red) your time is started when you break the stage lights. The tree lights have nothing to do with your elapsed time. In other words, you could take off right after the 1st yellow, and still turn the same time as if you started on a green...the tree is only to even the race, or handicap a slower car fairly, nothing more.

@sayit8ntso harlon2u is right...it doesn't matter. If the tree's two staging lights r on ur staged at the same spot everytime. Once u budge the clock starts, even if u start at the first green, or sit there for a whole day. Once those tires move even the slightest, the sensor makes sure there isn't a distance advantage so it starts ur time. You can't gain any advantage unless ur rolling and the two top lights haven't staged u. You need some track time, then u'll know exactly what we're saying.

there is another video of another driver hitting 10.74 @ 133.21 mph and it was a clean pass in a bone stock zr-1 no red light either. A stock zr-1 can run high 10s with a good driver, it has been proven multiple times now

Magazines are not the end all and know all of automotive performance. There was even a guy who scraped a 10 sec pass out of a stock z06. Z06s are low 11sec cars. I know it is hard to believe, especially when you are loyal to the GTR. Another third driver on the corvette forums hit a 10 sec pass @ over 130mph trap, so it is more than possible in a zr-1

GM will never come out and officially claim such numbers, they love to under-rate their cars instead of hyping this up to the nth degree and having their customers feel like they were deprived.
Youtube and other avenues such as streetfire show individual users displaying a factory stock car's capabilities in the real world. It is just as valid as any magazine tester holding a video and capturing a test of a certain vehicle

Esp when there are videos of individuals who own zr-1s putting up 10.7 and 10.8 ETS with trap speeds over 132mph stock contradiicting your opinion that the zr-1 is only a low 11sec car, it is clearly faster and capable of a 10 sec quarter pass as proven by these videos w/ a good driver

Something to notemagazine testers, test cars when their job says to. Factors can be weather, track, DA & so on. Also in the back of the magazine where they have all the stats of every car the bottom states all cars are tested with throttle lift shifts, which can also account for a few tenths. Maybe that's why 1/4mil times vary so much, along with driver & etc. People that own the cars get more seat time too, & learn the cars every detail...we all know ZR1 demand seat time & a skilled driver.
