now when i look back on games like this one and Alone in the Dark from '91, i find it hard to imagine that you could actually play and enjoy something like this. New technologies render it impossible to enjoy such old games, but back in the day, they were the most awesome thing ever.
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which is electronic music inspired by great games such as Neverwinter Nights. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
@TreatyOfTripoli Despite the unfortunate name, Stormfront Studios was fairly well regarded in its day; among other things (most notably NWN), it was responsible for Stronghold and the LotR The Two Towers tie-in game. It closed in 2008. There's a Wikipedia entry if you're interested.
I'm doing research on the first mmo... doing searches led me to this, but mmo's require socialization and I see no chat capabilities here... please if anyone has more information on how the game really worked... as far as chat abilities, server limits (amount of players) and whether other players were visible, please let me know... I have to have visual proof, video or screen shots or respectable gaming or news archives or the information is useless... can anyone send me links, please? Thanks
@ravyne82 This may be a little late, but this game was one of the first MMOs ever. The reason you don't see any online chat, play or capabilities is because the client is playable WITHOUT being connected to the server. The server was shut down ages ago but you can still play in 'single player' mode. In fact, it is so old you will likely never find video proof of the online capabilities. Unfortunately. You can wiki it for 'proof' but that's thebest you'll get. Forgotten World is a remake.
@TinariKao That is unfortunate. I will try to use what evidence the wiki has, though my school frowns upon that. For this assignment, there's no real time constraint, so its ok. Thanks for the info.
got nothing bad to say about games made in my college years(early 90's) because the new NWN (orignal campaign of 2000 something or other) is nothing but a vamped up hack'n slash with some dialgue at times and schnazzy graphics, otherwise, it's inferior to this. same classes, fighter, mage, paladin, rogue whatever with 3e and still a swing and a casting no other real elements.
I've been playing that version since it's release and that is absolutly not true. The virtue lies not within the singleplayer nearly as much as it does in the Multiplayer. It has an extremely well made toolset program which allows one to set up campaigns and persistant servers rather easily. Also the classes are not just 4.. there are I think.. 15-20 classes if you don't include the several hundred custom ones made by scripters. You talk without knowledge, get your facts straight.
@RaiShizaki you thought wrong, actually WoW has an amazing storyline, that started in 1994, with Warcraft Orcs and Humans. Do some research before commenting, and look up the storyline or play the other WC and you will never make that foolish mistake again.
My god! Everything about the interface is so freakin clunky! And everything with sound is so freakin bad that it makes you long for a mute feature. This was probably good for its time, but I gotta say that I don't see how anyone could like this for any other than for pure nostalgia's sake.
Loved that game! I was waiting for you to to the NW Gardens and buy +3 Plate, Boots of Elvenkind.. haha. Did anyone ever use the store in the NW Garden? NW Snowie was my favorite of all time game mods. Let's go to the NW Woods sometime and kill some dracoliches! Man, I loved that game!
A group of programmers successful rebuilt this thing on their own dime. The game is called Forgotten World, and is a pretty close re-imagining to the game we all loved. If you loved NWN the way that we did, come check out Forgotten World. And you won't have to pay $3.50 an hour for this one like you did for NWN, because Forgotten World is free.
Man I miss this game, I bet that if it had an expansion every year or so and was still running I'd still be playing it. WoW's PvP is not any better. In NWN you had crit, fumble, feeb, clouds, and hold, along with some npc manipulation and the occassional table dancing.. in wow you have what the same 4-5 skills you use over and over in every fight and some pretty graphics? They come to about the same if you ask me, and I personally lean towards old NWN being better.
Brings back memories of my friends and I hacking this game to pieces. Using Game Wizard you could do all sorts of amazing weird client side stuff. We figured out how to take control of enemy monsters and how to give any monster the ability to cast any spell. Everybody would spend all day grinding dracoliches and we would roll in and take control of the dracoliches and make them behave in an insane manner. Fleeing from the NWNs was pretty fun, too. Good times.
Every now and then I get uber nostalgic. I once found a NWN Emu that had online play and was decent fun. Prob was it wasn't too populated... and WoW just seems to have better PVP :P
Sweet. It's be great if there was a way to save your game while using the off-line version. Otherwise its kind of pointless to play it unless you never exit the game until you complete it.
Wow was the intro song really that awful version of Pool Of Radiance's? Or is it a problem with recording? I would SO love for this game to come back, but with an improved opening theme :) I love the SSI gold box games.
That song was the intro song from Pool Of Radiance. I played Pool Of Radiance on both the C64 & PC & I can tell that the intro song is from Pool Of Radiance (C64 Version).
I watched the video above also & it does sound bad espically since it's coming out of the PC speaker. Pool Of Radiance (C64 version) is one of my favorite computer songs.
The music is awesome :P

@NerdGuy64 God, your fucking stupid, I was being sarcastic.
RaiShizaki 1 year ago
@RaiShizaki well, i apologize for not being able to read tones over the internet, but i shall admit WoW does seem to be all about that nowadays.
NerdGuy64 1 year ago
@NerdGuy64 When identifying sarcasm over the internet, you don't look for tones, you look for words that make it sarcastic, hence e-cock.
RaiShizaki 1 year ago
@RaiShizaki I have seen e-cock used in non sarcastic ways.
NerdGuy64 1 year ago
@NerdGuy64 More often then not, its used with sarcasm.
