Kenny Dixon Jr/Moodymann's tracks are incredibly hard to mix into any set because of how unique the sound is. They just don't fit into an "genres" nicely. That being said, they are probably some of the best tracks ever made...
I agree some of his tracks are great...but why do u have a hard time mixing them? It's a 4 on the floor, Pretty simple, count it out.
Wicked summary of the main man tonton4o! He played over here in london over a month ago and i must say i didn't quite like his set as it was just not as lively as i expected it to be, but this by no means faults his flawless and groundbreaking musicianship.
it reminds me sitting there, chilling, watching the people laughing & enjoing the time with eachother ... and just watch everyone groovin to the sweet melodie of deep, soulful house music ...
damn, when im allowed to go to bars & clubs, I will go there and do exectly the same ...
I remember buying this when it first came out. Something like this out of Detriot,Usa. I thought no way. Then as I check this guy out. I realised that this cat was for real. I love the jazz type vibe on this and that bassline, and of course that simple sample. It all works.
This is so Deep. Great example of Deep House that actually is groovy at the same time. Keeny Dixon Junior - remember the name!
Why would it surprise you that this would be from Detroit? Just curious - we're the largest primarily Black city in the country...of course we have good music!
The reason why being from England, I was buying loads of this stuff from Chicago, New York and New Jersey at the time when tune first came out in regards to Soulful & Deep House music, as well as Garage music.
Really got into Moodyman (Kenny Dixon Junior) via buying this single first from him back then. I never thought that Detriot as a city was making this kind of music at the time. I soon learnt that this was the case. There is another label from Detriot called Happy Records.
OHHHH my goodness!!! You are right. I heard them first few keys..and that bass..i just seriously started dancing around in the crib. I must must must find this on vinyl!!!!
waiting for this record to arrive ;)

Sounds like they used Cocteau Twins/Liz Fraiser for one of the repeating vocal samples.

Kenny D saves this entire genre from ridicule and disposal, he elevates it more than the sum of the parts.

I can't find a DJ that sums up the music I love better than Kenny Dixon. I just wish he'd distribute more of it.
