JUST MISSED!!! As stated above "Buzz-Buzz-Buzz" just missed making the Billboard's Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 17 weeks in the Top 100 in 1957/58, it entered the charts on Nov. 25th, 1957!!!
Everything about this is right! The song is catchy, the singer is terrific (great phrasing, good tone and excellent pitch), the backing vocals complement the lead vocal nicely and the signature intro sax part is big, fat and rocks hard. The two-sax middle section iterates and reminds of the intro... No record as good as this has come out for some time now. It reminds one of Thurston Harris and Bobby Day. Who were the Hollywood Flames? The sax man has a tone as big as Clifford Scott's. !!!!
This song is so classic for me - electrifying from the very first bent note - I have this on 45 but think it'd be sweet in a 78 jukebox, right next to Elvis, the Coasters and El Dorados
I had just turned 12 when this came out and my older brother bought it. Well I just got my intro education and never looked back. This was great because it was a big pop hit and was all over the few AM stations we had. Thx.
