  • I know how you feel, I want to let you know cttontails die at 2 yrs old, Mine died just under a yr, Im sure everyone has trapped and tamed a cttntail before. His name was Gomer, and your video made me cry uncontrolably because I MISS GOME GOME!

  • I feel ur pain my iguana just died on august 1 2011 and he was barley 3 moths old he was only two months old.

  • :( we rescued 4 baby wild bunnies but sadly they all died. :( Do you know what she died of?

  • Awww I almost cried at this videoX*( What happened to little Melvin? I hope my cottontail doesn't die young... :(

  • What awesome people You are..I love this clip or both..Your cat loved Miss Melvin too..This is so darn cute I have tears..Thanks 4 giving her a sweet LIFE

  • How did you guys get her to get used to your guys ? My little guy freaks out when we try to hold it .. Shes in Perfect condition tho (:

  • i just watched the videos of melvin & congrats on getting her to live that long! i recently found 4 baby cottontails, i tried to nurse them but all have passed away :( even tho i had them for a short period of time it was still heartbreaking. what did you feed melvin when it was a baby? i fed them kmr.

  • All babies get vital, necessary antigens/bacteria from mothers milk. When they don't get that from their mother their immune system gets compromised. That's what someone told me. So that could be why. Plus they don't live long in nature because so many things kill them. They can develop cancer too. So who can say. Their is little or no research/information about them as they are considered pests most people try to kill. Their are breeding programs in certain areas where you could get information

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how difficult it is to lose a bunny.

  • Aww I'm sorry to hear about this. I just lost a few bunnies myself. Wild rabbits don't live much longer than a few years so I hope you know none of it was your fault :)

Let Melvin always a place in her Heart

  • I just recently came across your videos of Melvin. Thanks for posting them. I am in the beginning stages of cottontail bunny ownership with Cadbury who was 3 weeks old when he was rescued from our dog (who was just chasing him around our property to get a few friendly licks in). Cadbury is 9 weeks old now and reminds me a lot of your Melvin from what I've seen so far. I'd be interested in hearing about some of the challenges of cottontail rabbit ownership. Thanks!

  • das war bestimmt ein süsser hase , echt schade das er nicht mehr leben tut

  • that was my bro but hes right this is sad!

  • ooo ok nice video i have 2 rabbit cottontail but idk when are there gonna died can someone tell me?? cuz this movies he sad :(

  • It's wonderful he made it for 2 years! Im sorry that he had to die!

  • It is some time ago now that I watched your life with Melvin here from early on and was, and am, very touched by the way you cared for her.

I am sad to learn that she passed away, losing a pet (like I did my cat) is always painful. But she had a wonderful life and will watch over you, I'm sure.

Have fun on the Big Green Meadow, Melvin. R.I.P.

  • my rabbit died resently and im heartbroken

  • I want to thank all of you who followed little Melvin's life. I truly appreciate all your kind and loving comments. She will always be with us, and, yes, I do cry whenever I re-watch her memorial. It chokes me up every time. We miss her so much. Thanks again! Sandy

  • im not kidding that made me cry

  • don't worry, my rabbit died on november 1st. we only had her for 2 years you were very lucky to have her with you ever since she was a baby!!

  • Melvin you and your owner are very honest and owner of the cotton tail, im sorry, :(

  • - heart breaks -

  • Melvin was a very beautiful rabbitt. I am so sorry for your loss. My family has really enjoyed your videos of her. Do you know what caused her death? We have a 6-7 week old cottontail which we resued from a dog in Alabama while evacuated from hurricane Ike. We love Silas so much but are struggling with the idea of letting her go. We keep asking ourselves if he would be more happy in the wild or with us. I have read that the avg. rabbit only lives 1 year in the wild.

  • I raised a wild cottontail myself a few years ago, but she passed away at age 2.

I did everything right, she was healthy and happy, so I gather that wild rabbits just aren't long lived.

  • Thank you for your kind words. We still miss Melvin very much. She added so much to our lives, and we'll never forget her. I hope you enjoyed her videos from the time we rescued her to the time of her passing. Thank you for writing.

  • i feel very sad for ur lost, wild rabbits that r being in captivity dont live as long! it looks like u truly loved him!

  • :'( thats so sad...our me and 2 of my friends found 2 baby bunnies. they looked just like urs in the pic at 0:12...but sadly they ran away becuase we kept them outside in a cage. we dont know how they got out but they left before they got anybigger...it was sad. their names were thumper and sniffles.

  • I'm sorry for the loss of your sweet little bunny. I just lost mine this week too. Nothing can compare to the quiet gentleness that a rabbit brings into your life. They are such a blessing and greatly missed when no longer with us. Your bunny looked so adorable and well cared for. May Melvin be in a happier place now with lots of new animal friends.

  • Thank you for your comments. I am so sorry for your loss, as well. Having a bunny is very different from a dog or cat. You are right in that they bring a quiet gentleness into our lives, especially when we are holding them. There is a special calmness about them when they feel safe and secure in our arms or lap. Take care, and thanks again!

  • One more thing I'd like to add; from seeing your videos I can tell you this, just know in your heart that your sweet, beautiful bunny led a happy life and felt safe and secure. She told you in more ways than you will probably ever know.

  • Thank you so much for writing! I am so very sorry for the loss of your bunny. The grief and pain we feel may lessen as time goes on, but it does not go away. You definitely know how I feel. A pet becomes a part of us because they are a part of our family day in and day out. I, too, am in tears right now as I read your comments. I loved Melvin so much, and, yes, I could feel her love. I could see it in her eyes and from the kisses she gave. Thank you again... Sandy

  • I am sitting here with in tears. My precious bunny, whom I lived with from the time he was a baby of 6 weeks to 6 years, died of a horrible strain of cancer. I watched him die a violent death in less than 5 minutes. To this day, 18 months later, I am not over him. He was my family. He meant everything to me and the pain is very much still there.

My deepest condolences to you. These precious animals can, and do, change who we are. And the loss is truly a loss of a family member. Bless you.

  • Not to dignify your IDIOTIC post more than necessary, but you have NO CLUE as to what I went through or what I did. And I sure as HELL am not going to explain myself to an inconsiderate worm like you, you deserve nothing.

  • This is a rude ugly comment that should be removed from your comments. This video is to honor Melvin. None of us want to hear what rude people think. In the wild animals, die all the time with no help or comfort or medicine. Letting an animal die who has no hope is not a crime.

  • I lost a bunny to a heart attack possibly from something as innocuous (to us) as a bug bite. There is just nothing you can do to prevent it. It just is. Thank you so much for letting us know what happened. You know we would have been posting comments wondering where Melvin was. Now we can even see her sweet little memorial. Thanks so much.

  • Thank you so much for writing. I can really see that Melvin's passing affected many people. We were very blessed to have had her in our family, & I'm so glad you & others enjoyed following her life. It is very easy to get attached. If she only knew how many people had loved her from afar. She was not only special to us, but to you and many others as well. I will never forget the little kisses she gave me on my hand when I held her in my lap massaging her during the evening. Thanks again.

  • I am so sorry. I am crying, I too will miss Melvin and I can imagine your grief must be so strong. I admire you so much and just love that you took the time to share Melvin with all of the world. I just loved being able to see her grow up, get snuggled by your kitty and all her other exploits. You have made many people very happy and you gave Melvin an amazing life. It is so hard, why do they go so fast sometimes?

  • OMG! What happened, was Melvin sick? Im so sorry! I cried while watching this video. I love melvin..

  • Thank you very much for being a part of Melvin's life thru her videos. I choke up whenever I think about her or talk about her. No, she had not been sick. She had just passed away during the night. It has been very hard. It took me 2 weeks before I could attempt doing her memorial, but I knew I had to. Thank you for writing.

  • Oh noooo.... I cannot believe it! what a sad news. she was such a sweet little bunny, I loved her videos... how has that happened, was she ill? I´m so sorry... :-(((

  • Thank you for your condolences. Melvin had not been sick and seemed perfectly fine when we went to bed that night. When we got up in the morning, she had passed away. I know these creatures are very fragile. I'm doing better now, but I still cry when I play this or any of her videos. She was so much a part of us. Thank you for writing, and thank you for letting her be a part of your life as well.

  • so she wont be lonely. so trust me, she wants u too be happy more than anything in the world. Bless you!

  • SO keep beleiving that her soul is watching over you from Animal heaven. I actually even did research about rainbow bridge. and i just hope its real. shes happy know, shes in a type filled with spring, hope and delight, and shes waiting for the day you``ll come pick her up and take her to heaven with you. but, until that day she wants you to live a long and happy life, and she will play with the other bunny friends,

  • i just love your rabbit wayy to much. im so sad, im so sad. cause i know how it feels, i experienced this feeling 3 times, in my life, and the last time, i cried so much, i blamed myself, when im sure he didn't want that. I loved my little bunnies, they were my babies, sometimes i feel i could have done better. but u loved urs so much, that love and care is so rare, u have a beautiful little girl, and God is watching over her! shes ur heart, ur baby and she wants to tell u, "I Love you, so much

  • Why they giveup so easily, i don't know. but i loved ur little rabbit. the most beautiful outdoor rabbit i have ever seen. she was like around 1 years old. all my bunnies never really came around to their birthdays, except the one who ran away who had stayed with us for her first birthday. I hate that their so innocen=t that they die so easily. melvin cottontail was such a blessing, andi subscibed casue i loved her, and know that she is in heaven, im gonna continue to be sunscibed. i cant leave

  • I'm so sorry for her death! When I clicked on this video I NEVER EXPECTED THIS! I ACTUALLY STARTED TO CRY, because 2 of my bunnies died and 1 ran away, and my friend had a bunny, and he died too. i'm so sad that one of God's most beauitful creatures are so fragile. Little rabbits. I loved melvin, from the very first days i saw her videos and shared it with my family, they loved her too. I have always wanted a tiny rabbit like that. but no matter how much we love them, they give up to easily.

  • Thank you so much! Wow! You wrote a whole book! Melvin was so very precious to us, and I can see she was to you as well. She will always be in our heart, and we miss her very much. I appreciate all your loving comments. You have such a very big heart, and I know you loved Melvin through her videos, like many others. We were very fortunate to have loved her in person, and I will never forget her. Thanks again.
