I hesitate to write this, but I really don't like his tone. It's too shrill. I would think some nice chorus and a touch of reverb would help. Plus, he should turn his treble down a tad. He's a great player, far faster and more technical than myself, but I just find that tone to get annoying after a few seconds.
@zackvanhalen No man. A lot of the virtuoso shred vids use a darker tone with reverb/delay, and as a lot of players use this to soften the sound of sloppy playing, I think the clear open sound here really demos what a f**king god vinnie is.
@UnknownSect333 Hahahaha yes man , i know. is just that most of the people say "i would give my life to play like him", well, he gave his life to the guitar. Cheers man.
Wow this video is almost 30 years old and still fresh as ever. Vinnie is by far one of the greats of all time and today his solo work as well as his work with UFO is unsurpassed.

Hey people relax! Take it easy and enjoy the music (or not). Do whatever you like but it's pointless making flamewars about who is the best guitar player.
I personally have learned a lot about modes from watching his videos. I recommend having a messaround with it! :)
Dude it's crazy how that even though this is just a demonstration of technique, you can tell how that he's really FEELING it and putting in some taste and great phrasing into his licks. That's one thing that really sets Vinman apart from most of the other "shredders" is that he genuinely tries to make beautiful music and when he's playing fast, it's because that's what he's trying to evoke emotionally from the guitar. My prevailing theory was that Vinnie was in fact Buckethead and had chosen a flashier persona to get the recognition he so richly deserved. The speed, technicality and style all jived so well not to mention the hair. Too bad Bucket turned out to be Bryan Carrol. Oh well they both still kick wicked ass, just more people need to show Vinnie love.
vinnie is one of the best composers of instrumental music, he is extremely underrated and too many kids just talk about technical skills and compare one guitarist with the other. it's ok, the kids are young, but one day you will listen to vin's songs and say, this is about so much more than just technical stuff. it's great music.
I just want to say that vinnie can play everything as good as paul gilbert , batio, petruzzi etc, even more, i think his technique is much better that some of these good guitar players. he plays really clean, fast and effortly. Few can play that fine.
I come here to watch a video of vinnie moore and all I can see as far as quebec is comments that have to do with jimmi page and eddie van halen. I don't see them in this video, so why are they beign brought up, 'sides; apples and oranges. Vinnie is amazing at what he does and what he does is unique from any other guitarist just like ANY OTHER GUITARIST. If you don't give him that credit then just shut the fuck up unless you have a vid of yourself doing something cooler.
I'll check it out, as I've not heard it. I'm open minded, I just feel deifying Vinnie Moore is inappropriate. I've watched many of his Vid's and just came away feeling the way I feel.
As, I've said, Vinnie Moore is a very good guitarist- not great. As for Jimmi Page, he is one of the greatist song writers of all time and was way ahead of his time in how he approached the guitar, this where his innovation comes. Look, here's the deal. Vinnie Moore is a very good guitarist. There are alot of them. However, he's not an innovator- he is a very good teacher- not an innovator. People who changed or revolutionized guitar playing are innovators. EVH, Randy Rhoads, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page- etc. Lots of people can play fast, afterall it's just practice. I know- mthompson1000you're the idiot! Clueless, probably never played a guitar in your life. Leave the commenting to people who know what they're talking about

Such a clean player. Awesome legato stuffs. Eagerly waiting for his new solo album. I have all his previous ones. One thing I like about his palyng is that even when he palys fast it doesn't sound like notes overload. It still sounds melodic.
beautiful diction, total control, right picking accent and best of all vinnie never over-plays while alot shredders are squeezing too many notes showing off!!
Get this video! I just got this one and Speed, Accuracy, and Articulation, and they both kick ass! A friend burned it for me because it's out of print, but it really kicks ass. So does Marty Friedman's "Exotic Metal". What's great about those DVD's is, they don't really hand you stuff on a plate like a lot of vids or teachers do. They trade ideas with you, and the rest is up to you. That's always been the best way to learn for me.
I'm not a shred fan but Vinnie was doing this long before Nuno came along. Not saying that Nuno is bad but he had guys like Vinnie to refer to as he was coming along.
Vinman is a guitar god. I mean who writes better guitar instramental's than him? (if you say Vai, your wrong)...also this clip is in the 80's imagine how good is 20 years of practice later on his custom super dean.
always one of my favorites. i seen him touring with alice cooper in 80's, his solo albums are awesome, now with UFO. his versatility shows with every project. I can think of a few guitarists i personally like better (and vai isnt one of them!) but, i remember checking out vinnie's instructional videos years ago and it was great to see such a talented guitarist, so humble, and really teaching you stuff instead of just showing off. vinnie moore rules!!
this guy makes you realise that you need to go back a step technically and master what you know well. THEN go forward... and back again... then you'll sound as smooth as this. could you imagine his shreds that are too fast for him?!
what a beast of a player. for all you guitar center cassanovas that are playing for attention! if you cant play like this then save it! all your doing is handing out headaches and embarrasing yourself!
Phenomenal. Imagine before Vinnie was as popular, going to the music store and playing your best Yngwie Malmsteen impression; thinking how you only missed a few notes and almost got it right but surely other people around must notice your skills and maybe want lessons from you. Then Vinnie sits down, looking for a backup guitar/rig and everyone including you freezes and gathers around the new god of neoclassical shred forever more as stocks in Malmsteen drop to an all time low.
Vinnie is a great player but I wouldn't knock Yngwie so much. For he was the first on the market with this genre/style when he arrived from Sweden to play with Steeler on the west coast of the US in the late 70's early 80's when he was only 18.
Yngwie was NOT the first hard rock neoclassical player, you forgot about Randy Rhoads. But Randy would only realize about 70% of his potential before his untimely death. and before that, it was Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin, and waaaay before that, Jimmy Bryant was shredding just as hard as anyone today.
This absolute nonsense. John McLaughlin played jazz fusion as did Di Meola which is not the same as playing neoclassical! As for Randy Rhoads he absolutely was not using the same techniques as Yngwie. He 'dabbled' in playing some 'bits' but did not pioneer the style/genre.
You're full of it. Yngwie didn't invent any new techniques AT ALL. Speed picking? Nope, DiMeola and Jimmy Bryant did that way before Yngwie. Sweep arpeggios? Nope... Chet Atkins was doing that in the early '70s. Tapping? Van Halen had all that down years before Yngwie. All Yngwie did was STEAL melodic ideas from Paganini and Bach and play them in a heavy rock context. He didn't create any new techniques AT ALL. Randy Rhoads was the first true neoclassical player.
You're full of it? Youre rude and aggressive and seem to have an unhealthy hatred of Malmsteen for some odd reason. You stated that those guys played neoclassical and its clear that they played jazz fusion. Everyone gets ideas from someone so he didnt steal anything! Like I said, Randy Rhoads dabbled in the genre. Do you actually play guitar?
You have turned this into some stupid competition between Yngwie and Randy Rhoads. The truth is Rhoads was the first neoclassical player. If you think Yngwie is "better", you certainly have a problem with perception. Yngwie's solos are not only forgettable, they lack the breadth of expression that Randy Rhoads had. You must absolutely be JUST a shred player, because you oddly think they are the best around. But you'd be completely wrong. Again.
Look man, I couldn't give a fuck what you think. You're not a musician so don't make comments that you only have conjecture on. I've played guitar since I was a kid and have lots of influences from Schenker to Les Paul. Why do I need to justify to you anyway who knows fuck all.
Whatever. You're ONLY a POSER shredder, if that. You couldn't play real guitar, or break out of 4/4 time if you tried. So, you've played since you're a kid, huh? Wow... that must have given you a whole year of experience to be talking nonsense like you are! Somehow, I knew I was dealing with a clueless 9 year old.
Look the fat is I play and you don't! I'm in my 40's mate and have lots of influences including Randy Rhoads and I can play anything as I started out like most folk by being influenced by established guitarists. I didn't suddenly start playing one style. Look don't bother posting a reply because this is getting pointless. Get back to me when you've uploaded a video of yourself playing and then your qualified to make comments on technical ability ect
Whatever. Your pointless ranting just shows me that you still have the mentality of a 9 year old who is blind to any type of guitar other than shredding. When you post a video that shows you playing any thing (ANYTHING) that is not shred guitar and that shows taste, maturity, and emotional depth, then I'll post mine. You and the rest of you pathetic shred players just love to compare and rate guitarists, which is pointless and shows a complete lack of maturity and knowledge.
I don't know what kind of taste you have or ability. It's you that's berating people and that includes me. I gave you my opinion and you told me that I was full of it. It's as if you're on a crusade against Malmsteen. I'm a musician and give credit where credit is due and I'm not bias. Go and read how this genre all started and how Mike Varney promoted these players and the style. Trust me, I'm more than capable of playing other types of guitar playing. Go on then, and post a video.
Whatever. When you grow up and become a real, true musician, you'll forget all about rating and comparing guitarists on their technical ability and get back to what matters the most: the music. Until then, you'll go on aimlessly and pointlessly. It's obvious you're incapable of playing anything that's memorable, or emotional, or that shows emotional depth, that demonstrates maturity. Because your 9 year old mentality doesn't have a clue. Until then, I'm happy to keep winning this argument.
Now youre beginning to bore me. Im happy to keep winning this argument. Its you that has the mentality of a 9 year old. Youve a cheek with your comment on when I become a true musician as you dont even play at all lol. Go and put the time and effort in to learning to play and then youre qualified to make judgements on technical ability. Oh, yeah you have been judging on it and dont step away and so that you have not. Youve done jack shit and u talk about being a real musician.Piss off jerk
Now I have absolute proof that I'm dealing with a 9 year old. Oh well. Let this be a lesson to your mommy to keep you away from the keyboard lest you make even bigger lies about being a "musician". At best, you're a worthless shredder, responsible for turning the art of playing guitar into a sport. When you finally grow up and figure out that it's all about the MUSIC, then you'll stop wasting everyone's time with mindless babble.
'Worthless shredder'? The your insulting quite a few guitarists dip shit. If I'm only a shredder then what the hell are you that cant play a note. Huh? You're nothing but a wannabe. Go and learn to play the guitar instead of dreaming. Sheesh what a dick you are
It seems that you've got 'history' arguing with real guitar players on the net. It seems that you've got mental health issues and I'm not going to give you the attention that you crave by responding to any of your psychotic half witted, spiteful and envious comments. A bit of advice - just go and learn to play the guitar instead of making these stupid remarks borne out of envy.
welll isnt boobear1 being a "true" musician by sticking up for the kind of music he plays, i meen if he wasnt a "true" musician, he woodnt give a crap about the music or wat u were saying about it, wth is a "true" musician anyway. the definition of musician is: one who has a passion to play the musical arts. soooo uhh cood u simply clear that up.

Nuno Bettencourt smokes this man!

I'm not a shred fan but Vinnie was doing this long before Nuno came along. Not saying that Nuno is bad but he had guys like Vinnie to refer to as he was coming along.

i'm a huge nuno fan, but nuno can't touch vinnie! vinnie is is just a mad virtuouso. really one of the best.

Vinman is a guitar god. I mean who writes better guitar instramental's than him? (if you say Vai, your wrong)...also this clip is in the 80's imagine how good is 20 years of practice later on his custom super dean.
Gaishredic 3 years ago
always one of my favorites. i seen him touring with alice cooper in 80's, his solo albums are awesome, now with UFO. his versatility shows with every project.

THEN go forward... and back again... then you'll sound as smooth as this. could you imagine his shreds that are too fast for him?!

what a beast of a player. for all you guitar center cassanovas that are playing for attention! if you cant play like this then save it! all your doing is handing out headaches and embarrasing yourself!
tonepatroller 3 years ago 2
TheLostTruckDriver 3 years ago
Vinnie is a great player but I wouldn't knock Yngwie so much. For he was the first on the market with this genre/style when he arrived from Sweden to play with Steeler on the west coast of the US in the late 70's early 80's when he was only 18.
bloobear1 2 years ago
Yngwie was NOT the first hard rock neoclassical player, you forgot about Randy Rhoads. But Randy would only realize about 70% of his potential before his untimely death. and before that, it was Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin, and waaaay before that, Jimmy Bryant was shredding just as hard as anyone today.
jspartacus 2 years ago
This absolute nonsense. John McLaughlin played jazz fusion as did Di Meola which is not the same as playing neoclassical! As for Randy Rhoads he absolutely was not using the same techniques as Yngwie. He 'dabbled' in playing some 'bits' but did not pioneer the style/genre.
bloobear1 2 years ago
You're full of it. Yngwie didn't invent any new techniques AT ALL. Speed picking? Nope, DiMeola and Jimmy Bryant did that way before Yngwie. Sweep arpeggios? Nope... Chet Atkins was doing that in the early '70s. Tapping? Van Halen had all that down years before Yngwie. All Yngwie did was STEAL melodic ideas from Paganini and Bach and play them in a heavy rock context. He didn't create any new techniques AT ALL. Randy Rhoads was the first true neoclassical player.
jspartacus 2 years ago
You're full of it? Youre rude and aggressive and seem to have an unhealthy hatred of Malmsteen for some odd reason. You stated that those guys played neoclassical and its clear that they played jazz fusion. Everyone gets ideas from someone so he didnt steal anything! Like I said, Randy Rhoads dabbled in the genre. Do you actually play guitar?
bloobear1 2 years ago
You have turned this into some stupid competition between Yngwie and Randy Rhoads. The truth is Rhoads was the first neoclassical player. If you think Yngwie is "better", you certainly have a problem with perception. Yngwie's solos are not only forgettable, they lack the breadth of expression that Randy Rhoads had. You must absolutely be JUST a shred player, because you oddly think they are the best around. But you'd be completely wrong. Again.
jspartacus 2 years ago
Look man, I couldn't give a fuck what you think. You're not a musician so don't make comments that you only have conjecture on. I've played guitar since I was a kid and have lots of influences from Schenker to Les Paul. Why do I need to justify to you anyway who knows fuck all.
bloobear1 2 years ago
Whatever. You're ONLY a POSER shredder, if that. You couldn't play real guitar, or break out of 4/4 time if you tried. So, you've played since you're a kid, huh? Wow... that must have given you a whole year of experience to be talking nonsense like you are! Somehow, I knew I was dealing with a clueless 9 year old.
jspartacus 2 years ago
Look the fat is I play and you don't! I'm in my 40's mate and have lots of influences including Randy Rhoads and I can play anything as I started out like most folk by being influenced by established guitarists. I didn't suddenly start playing one style. Look don't bother posting a reply because this is getting pointless. Get back to me when you've uploaded a video of yourself playing and then your qualified to make comments on technical ability ect
bloobear1 2 years ago
You and the rest of you pathetic shred players just love to compare and rate guitarists, which is pointless and shows a complete lack of maturity and knowledge.
jspartacus 2 years ago
I don't know what kind of taste you have or ability. It's you that's berating people and that includes me. I gave you my opinion and you told me that I was full of it. It's as if you're on a crusade against Malmsteen. I'm a musician and give credit where credit is due and I'm not bias. Go and read how this genre all started and how Mike Varney promoted these players and the style. Trust me, I'm more than capable of playing other types of guitar playing. Go on then, and post a video.
bloobear1 2 years ago
Until then, I'm happy to keep winning this argument.
jspartacus 2 years ago
Now youre beginning to bore me. Im happy to keep winning this argument. Its you that has the mentality of a 9 year old. Youve a cheek with your comment on when I become a true musician as you dont even play at all lol. Go and put the time and effort in to learning to play and then youre qualified to make judgements on technical ability. Oh, yeah you have been judging on it and dont step away and so that you have not. Youve done jack shit and u talk about being a real musician.Piss off jerk
bloobear1 2 years ago
Now I have absolute proof that I'm dealing with a 9 year old. Oh well. Let this be a lesson to your mommy to keep you away from the keyboard lest you make even bigger lies about being a "musician". At best, you're a worthless shredder, responsible for turning the art of playing guitar into a sport. When you finally grow up and figure out that it's all about the MUSIC, then you'll stop wasting everyone's time with mindless babble.
jspartacus 2 years ago
'Worthless shredder'? The your insulting quite a few guitarists dip shit. If I'm only a shredder then what the hell are you that cant play a note. Huh? You're nothing but a wannabe. Go and learn to play the guitar instead of dreaming. Sheesh what a dick you are
bloobear1 2 years ago
It seems that you've got 'history' arguing with real guitar players on the net. It seems that you've got mental health issues and I'm not going to give you the attention that you crave by responding to any of your psychotic half witted, spiteful and envious comments. A bit of advice - just go and learn to play the guitar instead of making these stupid remarks borne out of envy.
bloobear1 2 years ago
Whatever. You only think you're a "real" guitar player. Grow up already, you dim-witted 9-year-old.

welll isnt boobear1 being a "true" musician by sticking up for the kind of music he plays, i meen if he wasnt a "true" musician, he woodnt give a crap about the music or wat u were saying about it, wth is a "true" musician anyway. the definition of musician is: one who has a passion to play the musical arts. soooo uhh cood u simply clear that up.
Sonicphlair15 2 years ago
First of all, it has to be music, not a competition. Shred turned the art of guitar into a sport. So, you'd have to prove to me that h
