Aw! I didn't know mechanics get to taxi the plane too! I'm considering starting school for air maintenance. If I got to do that, I think I would have an accident in my pants! (The good kind, if you know what I mean).
@rsmoove2000 yeah every once in a while you get to taxi a plane. It is kinda cool especially during rush hour at a place like LaGuardia Airport. You better know what you are doing because you have to cross 2 active runways to get to the other side of the airport.
It all depends on you. when starting with an airline they will hand you a list of tools that is required for you to do the job. you can buy cheap tools that break and are uncomfortable to use, or you can splurge on Snap-On and get good stuff. Either way it's coming out of your pocket. I have several thousands of dollars of tools sitting in my basement collecting dust. Once in a while I break it out and work on my car or something. The utility business supplies you with tools, screw airline
im scared of planes and flying and that so many things can go wrong. I went to A&P school for 3 years and finished their program but don't have my A&P yet because im partly being lazy and partly don't know what to do with it. If i was a pilot or had more control i would have maybe liked planes.
@kevinatucla How much experience do you have with aircraft maintenance? You cannot be lazy getting your A&P or you'll never get it, trust me !!! You have to sacrifice alot of time studying the books !!! And if your scared to turn wrenches on aircraft components and troubleshooting faults on airlines to find out what is causing a certain problem, then you should seek other employment skills !!!!
I don't have any experience and non of my family ever worked with planes. The only reason I chose this is because of money and I like to work with my hands. I am 39 years old already. So far I passed the general and Airframe written test. I am studying for powerplant test. I also have a UCLA degree in International Development Studies. And I had a clothing company for 7 years.
Yeah, I did the check on the 737 that night but then I had to bring the F100 to the gate in the morning. The F100's weren't around that long, even American airlines got rid of them. They were too computerized and some crazy stuff used to happen, I wasn't a big fan. An airplane in flight shouldn't think it's on the ground and an airplane on the ground shouldn't think it's in flight.

How much money would an aircraft mechanic need for tools starting with an airline??? Are there any grants that would help in buying tools???

I agree. Never liked being on Fokkers...ever. Scary-ass airplanes to be aboard from both a passenger and AMT trainee.
If it ain't Boeing, I'm not going.

Very niiiice, especially since I haven't seen USAir liveries in a long time.
I noticed at about 2:25 you switched from the 737-300 to the Fokker 70/100. Another bygone era of American aviation.
