Sure education has a part to play on a person's IQ but genetics should not be overlooked.

Far too many teaching resources are dedicated to incoming third-world citizens (many of whom are illegals). I can't count how many times in my California high school experience the classroom had to be slown down to accommodate the Hispanics. Somehow I doubt Asian schools have this problem given how segregated their communities are.

i think its all about expectance. in some way the chinese culture has gained lots of proud through the long chinese history, so as chinese immigrants(who already are behind because of the language), they often want themselves and their kids to be better than others. in fact, i dont think they still could be the top if they were in china, where kids are even more unwillingly pushed by the teachers and work harder thus seem to be smarter than western kids who work less hard.

IQ is not really malleable. I'm sure the "Tiger Mom" hypothesis is a contributor, but the g factor for intelligence tests is about 40 percent (considerably high). Northeast Asians have more success because their mean IQ is 104-106, and the mean IQ of whites (by definition) is 100. While cognitive ability is not a synonym for human excellence, and there are certainly individual Asians with less than 100 IQ, ignoring real differences in aggregate IQ is a bad idea. It is not just rote memorizing
Don't worry about Asians studying hard. Rote learning and critical learning are two different things. Being force with the rod to study will only mean high grades in school but low IQ in the workplace.

The problem with this sort of upbringing is that when these kids reach adulthood and start living for themselves, the oppresser(mom) will no longer be there to point them to the things that need to be done. The people that have been brought up this way, do the things they do because they are FORCED to do. So for the time these kids are brought up they might do good, but there is no real genuine interest in these things. That's why I do not think this is a very good way to bring up ur children.
I'm Chinese and my IQ score is 152. I study very little. Drank lots of alcohol like the Europeans in school, but I get better grades. I think Asian families, especially people from north eastern cultures generally emphasise a lot more on education. But they are also very much into making money and being entrepreneurs. So this report attributing Asians' success purely to working harder is not quite accurate.

I'm pretty sure about one reason why Asians,especially youths, in English speaking countries are performing better than their native counterparts. This is because most of them are children of skilled migrants. Skilled migrants are usually tested and screened through immigration programs. They are usually skilled, more ambitious and more resilient than average people. These traits are usually passed on to their children through the upbringing.

@1peterkim123 I don't know where you have been, but I've studied at a university in Shanghai for a year. It wasn't quite the Qinghua University, but the only torture I have experienced were too many hangovers every week. The level of education wasn't that high, preparing for exams was just too easy. Most Chinese students just accept whatever is fed to them without asking critical questions, might be a cultural thing. No offense though, they're extremely nice and hospitable people.

its all about the culture. in the asian culture as a whole, its all about honor and discipline. you can even see it in martial arts, when you learn karate, judo, et al, you dont just learn how to kick and punch, it molds you personality. self-disciple can be used for anything. with discipline you can "force" yourself to study, or work harder. when you work harder than everyone, you will be better than everyone.

The problem with this sort of upbringing is that when these kids reach adulthood and start living for themselves, the oppresser(mom) will no longer be there to point them to the things that need to be done. The people that have been brought up this way, do the things they do because they are FORCED to do. So for the time these kids are brought up they might do good, but there is no real genuine interest in these things. That's why I do not think this is a very good way to bring up ur children.

I'm Chinese and my IQ score is 152. I study very little. Drank lots of alcohol like the Europeans in school, but I get better grades. I think Asian families, especially people from north eastern cultures generally emphasise a lot more on education. But they are also very much into making money and being entrepreneurs. So this report attributing Asians' success purely to working harder is not quite accurate.

Many, if not the majority, of Chinese-Americans I meet have the academic and professional success that hard work cannot solely achieve. But like the video said, I think Chinese people believe that everyone is born equally smart, so, IQ isn't even important to them. They believe that all achievements result from hard work and perseverance. I actually think this an admirable mentality, although it can be irrational.

I'm pretty sure about one reason why Asians,especially youths, in English speaking countries are performing better than their native counterparts. This is because most of them are children of skilled migrants. Skilled migrants are usually tested and screened through immigration programs. They are usually skilled, more ambitious and more resilient than average people. These traits are usually passed on to their children through the upbringing.

It wasn't quite the Qinghua University, but the only torture I have experienced were too many hangovers every week. The level of education wasn't that high, preparing for exams was just too easy. Most Chinese students just accept whatever is fed to them without asking critical questions, might be a cultural thing. No offense though, they're extremely nice and hospitable people.
