Awesome video of one of the many many such awesome 8/4/08-YouTubed-videos that all garnered such tremendous publicity from the unprecedented severe lightning/thunder shows imaginable...that literally pounded the Chicago area that wild night... Such videos here even outdoes my own monster 7/28/89-Tstorm video((also on YouTube...))..anyways..since I'm quite an avid Tstomr-taping fan((hence my user-name)) these such videos do have such special meanings to me in such MMWTO...!
If anyone is interested, the tornado sirens heard in this video are whelens. The one in the first part of the video must be a whelen 3016. And the other ones must be either R4s or 4004s. One of the whelen R4s or 4004s is across the street from the train staion. And another one of those is near Manheim road. I don't where the 3016 ones are though. And I'm sure one of the sirens heard is not a 2001 siren, considering that all the other oens are whelens.
@TspesVladD well I heard a FS 2001 in Melrose Park in this video maybe the one on Lake and cornell or on 9th beside the Target or Winston Plaza. Melrose Park has 3 2001's. Franklin Park has 5 whelens that I seen so far
I remember this storm, I live in Northlake...I was hiding in the hallway closet with my niece and my son while my husband sat in the window like an idiot.
Excellent video. Thank you for posting it as well as the info on the side. That's the largest amount of lightning I have ever heard of. To think those were only the Cloud to Ground strikes counted and not the several thousand more Cloud to Cloud bolts.
Remarkable. It must have been a lot of fun to witness and experience the wrath of mother nature.
daaamn, i lived in melrose at the time. was some crazy ass shit.

The sirens do their best but they dont have any chance to come over the sounds of nature..
Its heavy, but only one siren is loud enough, the one with the deeper sound.hat kind of siren is it??

I remember that day. It was one scary but fun day. When the sirens went off, I was in the garage, and couldn;t believe all the lightening I saw.

The lighting at the end is very cool. The people passing by in their car must have been scared.

In franklin park, do they test the tornado sirens (heard in this video), on the first Tuesday of the month and 10:00 A.M.
