Cael was excellent, but he was NOT the only undefeated NCAA career champion.
Others were undefeated and NCAA champs each season they were allowed to compete. It was not their fault they were only allowed 3 years of varsity competition. Cael is up there but given four years of varsity eligibility a few others, like Yojo Uetake would have done it.
cael is my step cousin sort of speak. he is my uncle in laws nephew. ive been to several of his intensive camps during my high school years just recently, hosted in Heber City utah, and i cant help but relish in the reality of it all everytime. He is most definitely the hardest working wrestler in the sports long history, and you can tell immediately that this love and passion for the sportt is incomprehensible. its really obvious how he went 159-0 in NCAA, and won an olympic gold medal to boot.

GSP is my favorite fighter by far but in wrestling Cael would have the advantage hands down. One reason is the specificity of training and the years of experience. To be fair though GSP is an amazing wrestler who could compete at a very high level if he committed to the sport. Given his lack of experience makes it all the more impressive how good of a wrestler he is.

@schilke237 Well I guess it's pure speculations. I've been doing MMA for a couple of years now (BJJ/MT Background) and we have some wrestlers at our gym and they are monsters. Wrestling is probably the best base to have coming into MMA, it doesn't mean that every wrestler will succeed in MMA but no one can deny the great base it provides for MMA. IMHO Cael had all the chance in the world to become a great MMA fighter, but that's just my 2 cents.

I was a wrestler at one time. Cael leaves me at a loss for words. I mean he is just so tenacious and dominating. It's unlike anything I have ever seen. It's almost murderous.
All of the Sandersons have always been so mellow and collected. I never saw any of them lose their head if they got down on the mat, unless you were a brother on the sideline watching your brother get beat. And that was only Cole losing to my brother 3 times. That is the only time ever, focused on what needed to be done. The whole family is a great success in wrestling.

St. Pierre has been training with Olympic level wrestlers from Canada for a while, so I think he would hold his own against college wrestlers who are not quite Olympic caliber. He was thinking about even trying out for the Olympic team for Canada if Dana let him, he's that good. College wrestling is much SAFER than MMA is period.

you cannot say he was "considering" joining the olympic team. you have to qualify for that, when did he qualify for any olympic or national team? with fewer weight classes in the olympics and over 500 college programs have been destroyed, the people who are good enough to wrestle in college are more dominant to the average player in their sport than in any other sport. wrestling is harder than most think, and you can only ever wrestle at olympic level if you only trained wrestling.
@crixa1 Actually, GSP was asked to go to the world team trials for Canada but he decided not to. So no he wasn't on the world team but if you gave him a year or so to train straight Freestyle wrestling he could be a force (probably not a medalist but a possible Olympian).
Let me clarify, he works with the Canadian Olympic team (their equivalent to our USOTC) and was told to try to qualify for their Olympic team. Regardless of whether or not he would be an Olympian, he is an incredible athlete for his sport.

Cael could be an amazing fighter, IF HE WANTED TO. Instead he just loves wrestling. Anyone with his work ethic and drive to win would be good after learning standup and submissions. Think about it, he already has amazing take down offense and defense so he already has 1/3 of mma down. I don't think he could go underrated just cause mma is very unpredictable compared to wresting. Now that I've ranted long enough id like to say I think he'll do fine as an Olympic wrestler since that's what he do

@schilke237 Well I guess it's pure speculations. I've been doing MMA for a couple of years now (BJJ/MT Background) and we have some wrestlers at our gym and they are monsters. Wrestling is probably the best base to have coming into MMA, it doesn't mean that every wrestler will succeed in MMA but no one can deny the great base it provides for MMA. IMHO Cael had all the chance in the world to become a great MMA fighter, but that's just my 2 cents.

All of the Sandersons have always been so mellow and collected. I never saw any of them lose their head if they got down on the mat, unless you were a brother on the sideline watching your brother get beat. And that was only Cole losing to my brother 3 times. That is the only time ever, focused on what needed to be done. The whole family is a great success in wrestling.

@crixa1 Raped? don't know about that... Matt Hughes and Koscheck were both accomplished wrestlers in colllege and both were taken down at will by St. Pierre. St. Pierre has been training with Olympic level wrestlers from Canada for a while, so I think he would hold his own against college wrestlers who are not quite Olympic caliber. He was thinking about even trying out for the Olympic team for Canada if Dana let him, he's that good. College wrestling is much SAFER than MMA is period.

you cannot say he was "considering" joining the olympic team. you have to qualify for that, when did he qualify for any olympic or national team? with fewer weight classes in the olympics and over 500 college programs have been destroyed, the people who are good enough to wrestle in college are more dominant to the average player in their sport than in any other sport. wrestling is harder than most think, and you can only ever wrestle at olympic level if you only trained wrestling.

@crixa1 Actually, GSP was asked to go to the world team trials for Canada but he decided not to. So no he wasn't on the world team but if you gave him a year or so to train straight Freestyle wrestling he could be a force (probably not a medalist but a possible Olympian).

Let me clarify, he works with the Canadian Olympic team (their equivalent to our USOTC) and was told to try to qualify for their Olympic team. Regardless of whether or not he would be an Olympian, he is an incredible athlete for his sport.
