  • Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb (the BEEGEE's) are all MANX

  • This must be the only song that brings a tear to this heartles bitches eye

  • The isle of man is a nice place to live

  • Beautiful Song !!!!

  • There is a small hotel in Liverpool called Ellan Vannin! Lovely name.

  • support Mec Vannin for Manx independence!

  • Independence from whom exactly? It is already independent.

  • Independence from the UK, They are a crown dependency. They should drop any kind of subservient relationship to the UK and become an independent nation-state and a member of the UN.

  • Ok, I know what you mean. Though, technically they're not in the UK at all and are self-governing. They just have Queen Elizabeth as head of State. They aren't even in the EU. I would prefer a Republican Isle of Man myself. I think Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man should have more cultural links, as we all have Gaelic heritage.

  • I couldn't agree more mate. I think an interesting thing would be if all the Celtic nations (Scotland, Ireland, I of M, Wales, Cornwall, and Brittany) all formed there own bloc like a Celtic union, instead of being in the EU.

  • I think cultural links is most we can hope for and I'd like a co-operation of the 3 Gaelic languages to a greater extent. An economic bloc of the named nations wouldn't be viable. I think the EU is essentially a good project.

  • @monkeyapplenerd Just to correct you. Mann is not part of the EEC and we never have been, also there is the Celtic League. and @bacabu she is not queen here she is lord of man and only due to stealing the title

  • @ManxMistress When did I ever say they were part of the EEC? And yes I know well about the Celtic League.

  • @monkeyapplenerd "all formed there own bloc like a Celtic union, instead of being in the EU". There at the point where you said "instead of being in" when you refer to the Celtic nations as we are classed as one. To me EU and EEC are one.

  • @ManxMistress I think you missed the point of my earlier comments but that's fine. You act like I like or want the I of M to be in the EU or EEC as you call it but I don't.

  • @monkeyapplenerd Don't worry it's only the normal pedantic me being picky. You are Male and American but at least a Celt so one good point out of three is pretty good ;)

  • Ellan Vannin will always be home. How I miss it. Australia is too far away.

  • Ah, i love the IOM, i took some pics down at Ballaglass Glen the other day ^^ it was beautiful, even though it rained.

Its always beautiful especially douglas when its really foggy, i loved it that day, but my dad didnt like driving.

  • Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb are all Manx, Although their older sister Leslie and their younger brother Andy were born in Manchester.

  • Ellan Vannin is the gaelic name of Isle of Man

  • Please tell me, ¿What is Ellan vannin? ¿an island? if it is, ¿is near form the island of man???

  • i rode 15 isle of man tt races and stunts around the manx circuit and live in brisbane. i still miss ellan vannin barry roberts

  • this makes me feel home even though i live in usa and was born their this will be my home one day though

  • As a Manxman living in France this makes me so homesick. Ive travelled the world but the IOM will always be home...Thanks for the posting

  • I belive Ellan Vannin is the name of the island in Manx Gaelic!

  • In English, it's called Manx - in the language itself, it's called 'Gaelg' - just as Irish in Irish is 'Gaeilge'

  • manx as the hills and proud whoop whoop

  • Loved this. As a manx lady living away, it made me so homesick! Thank you for a bit of home.

  • manx and proud....beautiful song x

  • I am so cross! I've been trying to make a slideshow like this (but using 'Going Home' by Mark Knopfler) using IOM photos I took with my digital camera last year. Seems it can't be uploaded on youtube and I don't know why! Great video here though with a lovely song!

  • try it again ..with .avi format, file should be less than 100 mb 10 minutes

  • brilliant song and very well sung by Robin

  • Fantastic!! - Thanks Lietuva007

I find it hard to believe this is a relatively new song - I could swear I was taught it by my landlady at the Guest house in Douglas where my family used to stay, when I was a 6 year old..(During TT week)

    and I'm now 60...

If it wasn't this, it was certainly very similar..

    I wonder if it's available on i-Tunes ??

  • if you message me an email address i can send you this song :)

  • It's a very old song, look it up on wikipedia. It's the (unofficial) national anthem of the island per Robin Gibb.

  • We learnt it at school - so it has to be very very old. :-) Slightly different words though.

  • @Lietuva007 Have had this in my favourites for more than a year now, and play it regularly. I have tried to obtain a CD ,of this version, which I find so moving., to be played at my funeral. Any clues or help with this

  • It's a shame your "anthem" isn't in Manx. Nice though.

  • excellent

  • this song holds great memories for me,as i was born and bred on the isle of man.

the bee gees are the best group ever, god bless you for your great music.and god bless maurice who will never be forgotten,

the isle of man and the manx people are so proud of you.your simply the greatest forever.

  • The song is the unofficial national anthem. And rightly so. Beautiful song about a very beautiful place, sung by the best singer in the Bee Gees. In my opinion anyway. Robins voice was exceptional.

This song is very dear to my heart. Thanks for uploading it.

  • Fantastic video, exactly what I have been looking for. Also does anyone happen to know were I could get hold of the video of the Bee Gees singing Ellan Vannin?

  • the video of him singing it on tv was also on utube a while ago, but has been deleted :( i have never found it anywhere else! ..this is a good video tho, thanks!!
