i love singing this song in public.. i get the weirdest looks from people who don't know this song or the smiths, especially when i sing "and if a ten ton truck kills the both of us" :)
in my opinion, Morrissey is the greatest romantic songwriter of all time. Most "romantic" songwriters usually just write about sex. But sex isn't love. Sadly, most couples who have sex don't even love each other, they just love the feeling. true love is friendship and care. Morrissey doesn't write about sex, he writes about true love. "and if a ten ton truck, kills the both of us, to die by your side well, the pleasure the privilege is mine" That's true love. <3
Morrissey is always bitching about how fucking lonely he is. His lyrics make him sound like such a needy person yet he says that he is celibate? That does not sound right at all.
It is annoying how The Smiths had such an amazing sound but when you look deeper into their lyrics it is so mopey that it makes Creep by Radiohead sound like the Twist n' Shout cover by the Beatles.
lol shut the fuck up. Everybody who came here has a good taste in music. Nobody gives a shit if you heard it on the radio or on your TV. Get over yourselves.
Sadly,Johnny Marr and Morrisey dont own the rights to a lot of their own music,so when a piece of shit like"The 500 days of summer"uses their songs,it is nothing but sad.So deal with that.....Fyi? they wanted no part of the film and were pissed that they used the music anyway.
this song is flawless. every bit of it. for those of you coming down on the 500 days of summer people..what does it matter? they heard the song and thought "wow thats awesome im checking it out". i applaud you guys for checking em out, you obviously have good taste in music. we all gotta start somewhere right?
If anybody would like to know what the Cake guy said here it is "This shit sucks ass, my faggot brother told me to lisen to it but it sucks cock fuck this faggot shit I only listen to metal" <--- This is a quote, I didn't type this!
I play the guitar with a kitchen knife in a middy and skirt and return from a gentle singing voice and a pure musical piece, a miniskirt to the youth when all bread Czira showing it is occasionally sweet-sour..
maybe to you, i think being a road traffic victim isnt the best lyrics for a love song? as ive said, i like the song & ive a few smiths albums. i listen more to morrisseys haunting voice & johnny marrs brilliant guitar rifts more than the words

@zebracactusshark Woah! What's with the hostility man?! I was only answering his question! It's also ironic how you can criticise my Youtube name when your's is not exactly any more sensible than mine.

I didn't know this song was in a film, and I don't really care! It's a great song and if people found it through the film and it has sparked off a love of the Smiths, then great. What better way is there to keep this music alive and to pass it to the next generation, than through a contemporary film?
I've had crushes before, but I think this guy is the one. I want to win his heart; I've never felt this way before towards anybody. The first time I met him, I had an instant connection with him. The thing is there is a 5 year gap.. you cannot control who you love. I fully believe in NOT dating. I don't quite know him, but the way he makes me laugh, the way he cooks, the way he's sweet to my family and I. God willing, the day we ever go together in his car, I will play this song.. lol
Guys, what does it matter if people saw this from a film or discovered it on their own? The Smiths are one of the best bands ever and I think its great when more people get into them, on their own, recommended by a friend or through another form of media!
@MarshmallowsAndBlood I think people feel very very personally about The Smiths, that they belong to them, and of course they do, so when a million people jump on the bandwagon it can be irritating.
@rebornstar26 I`m pretty sure it`s supposed too be humorous. Even though Morrissey always wrote about being miserable, he injected a lot of humor. Something no one really gives him credit for.
Obviously about teenage love and not wanting to go home to parents, but I think it nearly works from the perspective of an unhappy husband riding with his other woman.
Y'all old fogies need to quit-- if "summer" turned the young 'uns on to this song, that's one good thing about it. (I myself am a fogey who's never seen the movie.)
to those thumbs up/down people, I LOVE the Smiths, was lucky enough to see them in '85 (which I mention only because it was THE highlight of my 15th year), and I love NOTHING more than watching someone listen to the band for the first time. @girlie347: calling people fags is ignorant and prejudicial. akin to calling someone a racial epithet or calling a woman a c**t. Words like yours HURT innocent people. Try and think before you spout. And as far as guys with no friends go---I was a lonely, suicidal, gay kid with no friends as the 80's began and you know what? It's funny,I'm willing to bet hardly anyone here who bitches about people knowing this song from 500DOS was alive in the 80s and saw them play. Well guess what, a lot of your parents did (including mine), especially if you're European, they lived in those times and saved up all their money and sold all their brand new 8 tracks to get this record on 12" vinyl. They saw and loved these years before all of us, now imagine how much they could bitch about us? But they don't. Think about it

one could say: "thumbs up if you first heard about the smiths from "the doom generation". for me in particular, it wouldn't be true. but god help me if 99% of people i know have never heard of that awesome movie :p

Crashes into us
To die by your side

And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine!

one could say: "thumbs up if you first heard about the smiths from "the doom generation". for me in particular, it wouldn't be true. but god help me if 99% of people i know have never heard of that awesome movie :p
