  • This is grandfather of John Petrucci ;)

  • I don't recall hearing anyone better but i have heard some that were just ALMOST as good...Jerry Reed would give him a run for the money and on occasion they both played together.

  • Holy crap, I bet that guy got so much ass.

  • I have a pick he threw at one of his concerts.

Sadly it didn't transfer his skill to me...

  • Mr. Guitar !

  • The best there ever was, The king, We miss you Chet.

  • Watch his shoulder when he plays the Fsharp on the 1st string. This is the bit that all the easy play tab versions get wrong. This was really difficult for him at the time despite his calm face. What a hero he was.

  • This video is a favorite on Togo

  • I love that smug grin he gets on his face at 0:51

  • #t1m31s lots of guitar players in despair...

  • EVERYONE LISTEN TO SCOTTIE MOORE..YOU CAN HEAR CHAT ATKINS STYLE IN MOST OF HIS PLAY....

  • Chet Atkins was the God of Guitar. Nobody has ever, nor will ever touch him, nor come close. He was truly the God of the Guitar!

  • @LedZeppelin420x gotta spread shit somehow

  • @GabGabAuJous your freaking retarded. Chet Atkins is MR. GUITAR! Nobody on the face of this earth can and will never play better than him! R.I.P. Chester Atkins

  • @BobDylansDream3 ... have you ever heard tommy emmanuel.... im prettty sure chet himself has given tommy much praise, and there is reason for that. Tommy emmanuel may not have pioneered fingerstyle but he definitely stepped it up a notch.

  • @pantera6 he learned everything he knows from chet? And chet INVENTED that style of picking, and tommy himself says chet is the master. so if you honestly thing a chet atkins knock off is better than the original than you are mentally insane. tommy emmanuel is great, but he is too showy, and cocky. Chet atkins keep to himself, and was literally unbelievable of how good he was, look at tommy when he is young, and look at chet. Chets 100% better and your rediculious to say that.

  • @BobDylansDream3

I love this performance and I agree that Chet says more with less. I would disagree with you by suggesting Merle Travis was the original(and for Chet too) at this style of syncopation. Hence the term Travis picking. Chet evolved the bass pattern but Travis had that Boom-Chic stride bassline. Anyway don t want to start a youtube scurmish it is only a suggestion

  • i didnt know color existed in the 50s

  • @20cFilmWannabe Are joking me! There was color music videos since the 1920s.

  • @n64wilbert it was a joke you know how the 50s are seen as quite depressing :)

  • @20cFilmWannabe

    haha "depressing?"

the fifties were like the golden years

  • @DavidDoesntLikeDogs they probably were but i live in this shitty generation i envy you :)

  • @20cFilmWannabe /watch?v=oadzppD9Rv8

  • Zoidberg brought me here!!!!

  • my favorites list brought me here.

  • There are lots of people on youtube having a go at this, some very good, but no disrespect, their attempts only show how good Chet really was. None even come within a million miles of this. This is guitar perfection.

  • @mfs1168 thats not true..tommy emmanuel can come very close if not better than chet atkins. atkins said himself..tommy can do things he can never dream of

  • Comment removed

  • @mfs1168 search Gareth Pearson

  • @BillBuchananFtw Thanks, I hadn't heard him, very good!!

  • Classic song! Chet does an Awesome job on this tune

  • master

  • 100 famous guitar riffs brought me here!!

  • @drummer96ish Had you never heard of Mr Sandman before that??

  • NO ES EL SEÑOR ARENA es NADA MENOS QUE "MR. GUITAR"

  • One word........swagg!

  • in 1954 there was 480p? o.O

  • @Vassy97 This video had even greater detail originally, but then it got scanned into digital and then compressed for YouTube. There have almost always been better video formats than 480p.

Many people don't consciously realize that compressed digital formats are all about crowd-pleasing and lowest common denominator qualities. I guarantee the original digital scan is/was far superior than this compressed copy. Film has no set resolution. However, it's nowhere near infinite... TL;DW

  • @radicalgarbage02 thank you for the explanation! It was really interesting :D

  • chet atkins brought me here, and my passion for finger picking lol

  • The one and only CHET !

  • PLEASE HELP!!!!

Somebody can tell me what the hell happened - TODAY - to the art of music????

I wanna put the clock back!!!!! I do not like the today music!!!

  • @accuruneide We all ask ourselves the same thing..

  • @ironmaiden947 very sad sad sad question...

  • @accuruneide just because you don't hear amazing music doesn't mean it's not being made

  • @kidowl of course I hear good music. Maybe I have been not so clear to communicate my message? Or maybe is your teenage brain that is not in grade to understand exactly the same stuff you want to tell me but I've already wrote before? Can I help your retard? Be gentle, next time write to me in italian, so once we make it in english and once we make it in italian. Don't come to tell me you only know english!

  • @accuruneide ogni generazione ha la musica stupefacente

  • @kidowl hahahaha very very very cheap job! google translator makes miracles with little brains like you! Now you whon what kind of person you are.

Next time, instead of talking about "culture" think about building it.

goodbye little brain... ask Mr Sandman to bring you a well furnished brain! hahahahhaha

  • @accuruneide you're right. I'm generally dismayed by the quality of things around me. I choose to believe amazing things are still happening for my own health. That's not a fact. I'm probably wrong. And as for using google translator, your English is so uniquely off I thought you had used it yourself.

  • Gotta love that rockabilly slapback echo - oh, and the playing.

  • aaaaaaaawesome

  • My super awesome taste brought me here. :^)

  • I did a note-for-note transcription of this, because there wasn't even a reasonably okay tab of this anywhere on the net. I believe I've got everything perfect down to all the voicings and hand positions; but I'm hesitant to post it anywhere for fear of getting raped by a publishing company. Anyone got an idea of how I could share the PDF?

  • @chadbrochillington Generally they wont sue if you're not making anything off it. Although they may tell you eventually to stop spreading the file.

  • @chadbrochillington Please share it! I've been looking for a decent tab...

  • damn he's a handsome mofo

  • Wonderful! :)

  • gefällt mir sehr

  • mellow

  • very good video and this song can be played on ukulele

  • This man actually PLAYED songs on his guitar.

  • This should have been the tipoff that electric guitars are an entirely new and powerful tool....country at its best, Chet is great.

  • I'm John Fucking Zoidberg.

  • Truly great !!

  • nowhere boy brought me here

  • Chet had his guitar modified.

To get the echo on the bottom strings an keep the top strings sounding clear.

The amplifier was also modified to alow 2 channels, one with echo and one cealn.

These changes were made so you could not tell it, just by looking at it.

Listen to this song-- do you hear echo on the low strings?

  • @myRegression friggin genious! i just realized that, i shat Rockabrickies!

  • @awfulguitarplucker I was told this info from Chet's brother Lowell.

Lowell lived in the same town as me. I was at his house with my Gretsch and he showed me a bunch of guitars that chet has given him, and we palyed for a bit.

He also swore up and down that when chet recorded, he used a wound G string, when he played live he used an unwound g string, and they used to joke about it back and forth a bit, 'cause people wondered how could that G string sound like that if it was unwound?

  • @awfulguitarplucker Noooooooooooooooooooo

I can't find myRegression's comment. What did he say?

  • cool

  • damn, Chet was great..
