I read a comment by an officer who was there, and I have to agree with him, we don't really know what led up to these events. We need to be objective about these things. I'm usually pro law enforcement. I wasn't there and don't know the entire story or the escalation of force that took place prior to the camera being turned on. I don't think it was necessary for the officer to have all her body weight on the mans legs or for the sgt to hold the mans arms up like he was. It definitely wasn't warranted for the sgt to try and take the camera, camera man was not in the way and its not illegal for him to talk to the guy being transported
Simply put, the camera guy is interfering with the police, because he starts talking to the person they are apprehending. However the officer could have handled it better; Instead he should have told the camera guy he could record but needs to back away and stop talking to the person they are detaining or risk being arrested for interfering. It is possible that the officer had already warned the man prior. The officer did not have a legal reason to grab the camera.
The cops didn't do anything wrong...this kind of thing is what makes the public blase about police brutality...because we can't trust copwatchers to be impartial.

1, pulling the arm back that ensures suspect can't get up, it sucks but necessary, too many people can bend and contort to a position where they can still fight, in short it didn't become a problem until P.Hong grabbed the camera. That's assault.
1st excessive use of force: When the officer took the guys hands that were already cuffed behind his back and pulled them up, they don't naturally go that way, and the guy on his back just adds to the pressure on his rotator cuff.
2nd excessive use of force: When he placed his hands on the guy filming the incident, the camera guy didn't commit a crime therefore he shouldn't be saying anything to him, and definitely not touch him or the camera.

I think the cop may have done that because you were making comments to the suspect that may trigger violent reaction. I am all for video taping cops to make sure they know we are in charge, however you have to stay uninvolved in the matter except in extreme cases.

@690169 The cameraman has the legal right to film in a public place, so the offcer telling him to put the camera down is meaningless. The camera in hand, or on the shoulder is reguarded as part of the body and cannot be struck, pushed or touched legally. Injury could occur to the body from such contact. This is interpreted by law as assault. I did not use the term excessive force; I said assault; and that will hold up in court. There was no justification for the officers action. Good discussion!

All you see is a hand coming over the lens and hear a lot of noise. Things could be constructed in a way that gives power to the people, everywhere. Local committees in every region made up of ordinary folks can then be plugged in to all the rest around the world. There wouldn't even need to be a central power. No more need for military or even police. Any sort of global police force would be taken negatively, and could lead to more problems than without. I'm usually pro law enforcement. I wasn't there and don't know the entire story or the escalation of force that took place prior to the camera being turned on. I don't think it was necessary for the officer to have all her body weight on the mans legs or for the sgt to hold the mans arms up like he was. It definitely wasn't warranted for the sgt to try and take the camera, camera man was not in the way and its not illegal for him to talk to the guy being transported

Simply put, the camera guy is interfering with the police, because he starts talking to the person they are apprehending. However the officer could have handled it better; Instead he should have told the camera guy he could record but needs to back away and stop talking to the person they are detaining or risk being arrested for interfering. It is possible that the officer had already warned the man prior. The officer did not have a legal reason to grab the camera.

1st excessive use of force: When the officer took the guys hands that were already cuffed behind his back and pulled them up, they don't naturally go that way, and the guy on his back just adds to the pressure on his rotator cuff.
2nd excessive use of force: When he placed his hands on the guy filming the incident, the camera guy didn't commit a crime therefore he shouldn't be saying anything to him, and definitely not touch him or the camera.

@690169 The cameraman has the legal right to film in a public place, so the offcer telling him to put the camera down is meaningless. The camera in hand, or on the shoulder is reguarded as part of the body and cannot be struck, pushed or touched legally. Injury could occur to the body from such contact. This is interpreted by law as assault. I did not use the term excessive force; I said assault; and that will hold up in court. There was no justification for the officers action. Good discussion!

All you see is a hand coming over the lens and hear a lot of noise. The officer initiated the contact.How serious the contact was can't be seen, but contact was made and he did not arrest the camera guy. He also did not put a gentle caring hand over the lens. Any good lawyer take this, and the officer has got problems. The cop just lost his temper.

After hearing the way the person with the camera spoke, Id be arresting him for interference with police duty AND confiscate the camera. You don't follow police directions, you pay. No wonder the the world is becoming as it is.

@koolston ur bound to the system dude. you should not follow police directions when they make up their own laws. he was allowed to record all of that. that fucking policeman cant take his camera for filming. the law says you can videotape all public employees on duty. "if its not in a military base or something) Wtf do u mean the world is becoming as it is. we see more and more police brutality every day.

I investigate prison officers after uses of force for a living. There is a differences between excessive and doing your job...Safely! And with the least amount of force possible.

@rapshit17 Plus, you stand there and 'incite' some who has been arrest and don't follow the direction not to talk to the offender you can be charged with obstruction of an officer executing their duty. There maybe cases of excessive uses of force but not in this case. Im guessing you are in the US?

The cops only become concerned when the cameraman makes it clear he has captured everything on film. They are fine with keeping this dude in an unnecessary joint lock, pain compliant position; until they realize ... doh
Nothing motivates cops to treat people with decency and humanity like the sight and sound of a rolling surveillance camera.
The simple video recorder in its simplicity has done more to ensure humane, decent treatment than anything else. That is sort of sad, but true.

The guy with the camera is an idiot, and is lucky that he didn't get throw to the ground too. Screaming obscenities, and ignoring the requests of an officer that is just doing his job is a good way to get charged with obstruction and resisting arrest. Cops did absolutely nothing wrong in any way during this video.

@8231mim I have never said police brutality. The cop simply was not within the law. Only fools just do what they are told. There is a correct way for the "suspect" to respond and this was not exactly it. Prison? The answer will never be for me to pay for people who do not recognize the statutes, not laws, to be imprisoned. Your way of thinking is quickly becoming irrelevant. I personally don't care for the type of people rep in this video, but they are still US citizens w/rights.

@Farris2k7 He was not too close. He did not touch the cop. The cop took several steps toward the cameraman. Gave him an illegal order then assaulted the guy. It has been ruled time and time again that what he was doing is legal. Statutes and Laws are two diff things. Just because someone is born in the US does not mean that they must recognize statutes that were put in place before he/she was born. Laws are actually pretty simple. They are based on basic moral ideals. Don't cheat, steal, murder

The cops are the ones that determine such things, and the cop had already warned the man to step back and not to interfere, which he was doing when conversing with the man that was the suspect of an investigation. The cops could pull him up on multiple charges if they wanted to. Plain and simple, this guy was not following lawful orders of a police officer. The cops did absolutely nothing wrong.

I was surprised when my partner found us on youtube here. I am not any of the police officers in the video, but one of the others in blue. I wasn't going to comment, but when I saw what was being said here, I had to. The guy's video is so biased, it is rediculous! I can't say what he did prior to the tape, but he was acting HORRIBLE to people passing by! The guy shooting the video does this all the time! He has a hard on for making the BPD's job so much harder...just look at his other vids!
