Unfortunately, this reviewer does not mention ANY of the scientific studies on fasting/caloric restriction. Liquid fasting (the most popular form being the master cleanse) has numerous scientifically vetted health benefits including lifespan extension (see Honjoh et al in Nature 457:726), and increased neuronal resistance to excitotoxic stress (see Anson et al PNAS 100(10):6216) to name only two. Research "intermittent fasting" before you follow the advice of his "computerized dietary analysis"
I have done this before (using all organic ingredents) for 10 days. The first couples of days I felt horrible (as all the toxins are being released into my blood stream). At the end of the program I felt more energized and clear minded and had beautiful skin! The problem with this guy and many others is they are doing this for weight-loss, when this should be used for healing the body. Try it out, I highly reccommend it.
so glad i watched this before I did the lemon detox.. i found a detox at the chemist, its were you still eat a healthy weight loss diet, but the drink is supposed to help with the weight loss and cleanse your body.. its only $40.. not sure if i should try it or not?
@MsMeoooow TRY IT!!! JUST START AND IF U DONT LIKE IT STOP IT , THAT IT, U WONT DIE!!!! IT S REALLY GOOD, AND U DONT FEEL TIRED AT ALL, A BIT HUNGRY, OF COURSE, BUT ONLY THE FIRST 2-3 DAYS, IS WORTHED CAUSE CAN CLEAN U R BODY FROM TOXINS, an du can do it for 7 days , or 5 if u feel too, 10 days is better,,,,and also if u look in the site of the lemon detox, u have chance do choise the fasting, or alf fasting, u are aluod to eat some fuits....
@akeyoakeyo I don't know.. i don't like the idea of not having the amount of calories my body needs.. I just wana loose about 5kg.. probably not worth it, there's better ways of going about loosing a couple kg's. The one where you still eat sounds good though, you don't have to starve yourself to clean your body of toxins.
Everything he says here is 100% correct. It takes a long time to gain back muscle so unless u wanna wait years to have your metabolism back to where it was before you started this diet,(and it is a diet even if it's a "cleansing program" a: because the calories are insanely low and b: a diet is whatever you ingest) have fun being fatter then you were before you started when you finish it while you're trying to get back that muscle you lost.
No scientific evidence? That's not true nor is the fact that the Master Cleanser is torture. Like I said before if you want more information, read the book. Do the research for your self, or don't, i'm not too concerned to be honest. It sounds like you have a system for you that works so, keep it up.
@whoknowswhathappened Yeeeah, I did do the research. I found no scientific evidence and Stanley Burroughs certainly isn't someone I would want to take any advice from. *shrug*
Also, It's not only the mixture of juice you drink that rids the body of toxins. The Cleanse is a fast. Fasting allows your body to detox instead of focusing on digesting food. You can get the same positive effects from doing a water fast but who wants to be laid up in bed for 2 weeks!? The mixture allows your body to cleanse while allowing one to still function. Your body really has a beautiful way of cleansing itself if you allow it to do so.
@whoknowswhathappened Again, you're making a lot of claims that sound very nice, but are also very vague and don't have any backing scientific evidence.
People who are "Legally Certified" generally have the interests of corporations and medicine companies in mind. Not by any fault of their own, it's just that's what they have been taught through the education system. The cleansing refers to getting rid of materials that are toxic and harmful to the body. Don't take my word, or anyone's word for it. It seems you are interested enough to buy the small book by Stanley Burroughs and try it. I'm certain all of your skepticism will be appeased.
i was on this diet using normal syrup and ginger .. i lost 2 kg in 4 days ( i also exercise). It was actually good xP and honestly i got this diet method from TV and the doctor prove that it's not that bad to health.
I just came off this diet for 5 days. I had great results. But this scares me! After I came off, I just wanted to eat everything in site, and I did too. Now am I going to gain it all back, plus?? What is a diet you would recommend?
This cleanse is Tried and Trued; period. One cannot simply breakdown what the lemons, cayenne, and syrup contain. What needs to be looked at is how the body reacts when consumed. The benefits of fasting have been known for thousands of years. This diet shouldn't be used primarily for weight loss but for a detox of your ENTIRE body, inside and out. Every nutritionist agrees that before restructuring your diet it is essential to cleanse so that your body can absorb properly on your new diet.
@whoknowswhathappened What exactly is meant by 'cleansing' the body? The lemon detox diet, as with any commercial detox method, claims that it 'cleanses' the body and removes 'toxins'. But it doesn't specify what it cleanses the body of, what toxins it removes or how. It's possible that it does have a 'cleansing effect'. But that claim is not supported by any evidence and certainly hasn't been proven. It's also hard believe that any responsible, qualified nutritionist would endorse this.
@MrRokePoke Having just done a bit of research, I'll rephrase my last point. I find it difficult to believe that any responsible, qualified DIETICIAN would endorse this. Unlike 'Dietician', the term 'nutritionist' is not a legally protected term and ANYONE could legally call themselves a 'qualified nutritionist', so it's not actually hard to believe that a nutritionist would endorse this.
I see many odd ideas. To lose weight by going into starvation is not a solution. Try to think back to the old days and list what came out of the garden and the farms. Fruit, Vegetables, fish, meat, rice, potatoes... also think of what those plants and animals was eating and add fresh air, water and exercise to it all.
Its not advertised as a weight loss product. Its advertised as a detox diet. Its intention is to detoxify. Its like doing a water fast without being as difficult because there is a little bit of energy provided due to the sugar. The Cayenne probably increases circulation and metabolism temporarily and the lemon probably helps stimulate the bowels.
Costly, temporary fix and lemons and sugars (in the syrups) are acidic (pathogens/cancers love a slightly acidic body). The sugar alone is an indication to avoid the product. The price tag also.
weight loss and then maintenance is a lifestyle, not a two week fling. any diet that has you losing more than 1lb or so of body weight, without excersize over a weeks time, is most certainly going to be detrimental to your metabolism, and to your precious precious muscle mass, of which is needed to aid you in fat loss when doing it the right way. these cleansings are utter bullshit, and should never be done, period!
i have been on this lemon detox diet, and i felt fantastic on it and after it. i lost 3 kilos and i was only on it for 7 days. i never had any symptoms except for being cold and i didnt put the weight back on. i still exercise now, and i dont think it affected my muscular tissue

What diet means: what a person or animal usually eats and drinks; daily fare figuratively, what a person regularly reads, listens to, does, etc. a special or limited selection of food and drink, chosen or prescribed TO PROMOTE HEALTH or a gain or loss of weight
I didn't even watch this video because i assumed it was some dietitian or personal trainer trying to discredit something to sell their own stuff. All I need to say is this is your one video vs about 3 or 400 others on youtube VLOGGING their progress and saying how it works and makes them feel. Nice fail.
ITS A CLEANSING AND DETOXING PLAN MATE NOT A DIET...FOR ME ITS LKE WHEN YOU WANT TO SPRING CLEAN YOUR HOUSE, YOU TAKE THE CRAP OUT OF IT, AND THE SAME APPLIES WITH OUR BODY..SIMPLE, IT NEEDS DETOXIFYING AND CLEANSING, BAD ENOUGH WITH ALL THE CRAP THAT WE PUT IN...SO STOP PIMPING YOUR WEBSITE AND DISCREDITING THE LEMON DETOX DIET, GIVE PEOPLE A GO TO TRY FOR THEMSELVES..HOW ARE WE TO KNOW THAT WAT YOU SAYING IS TRUE.I THINK ITS BRILLIANT THAT SOMEONE CAME UP WITH THIS CLEANSING DIET..ABOUT TIME
Reading some other comments I thought I should add, matt o'neil is one of australias most highly respected dietitians and he helps thousands of people achieve optimal health & weight through his education programs. He is not "flogging a product" as some commenters have suggested.
He clearly says you will lose weight, as this is how it is marketed in Australia, but that it is a very unhealthy way to do so. Ask your GP what they think.
well it worked for me and I did not gain any weight back I guess if I went back to my old ways I would gain the 35 lbs I lost but I am not doing that ever.
Fasting is safe. The Lemonade diet is the closest thing to fasting that you can get. If you want to be skeptical because this joker is marketing his own product, then go ahead. The Lemonade diet is a natural way to lose weight without bodily harm. There are precautions that must be taken, like with any diet, but when followed correctly, this diet is more effective than any I've ever seen.
I have also done the Master Cleanse or Lemonade Diet. It is a wonderful diet! You will certainly have horrible hunger pangs for the first few days, but they start to go away. Your body adapts to your calorie intake and begins to function regularly and more efficiently than it was before. As far as the protein intake per day, this tool bag is right. It is not enough to keep the muscle you already have, so I took powdered wheat grass. The taste is disgusting, but overall, the diet's worth it
I did the lemonade diet. My blood preasure came way down as did my cholestrol. I FELT great. Kept close track of my tongue too, to see if the coating would go away. It did. No matter what people say negative about this thing it worked for me. Not for everyone I know, but if you haven't tried it don't knock it-grin!
This is the worst diet ever--it almost cost me my L-I-F-E, LITERALLY!!!!!! I received a clean bill of health before the diet when I tried it in 1997. I didn't know that I had LUPUS. The diet awakened a disease I didn't know was lying dormant in my body. This diet can awaken dormant autoimmune diseases that manifest themselves through systemic inflammation. Almost going blind taught me a valuable lesson. I'm now holding onto my life and my sight by Grace...
Years ago I did t his died for twelve days. No food, just the drink. After about eight days I began to have strange body sensations. I'd smell pizza or a hamburger, or something while driving, in the shower, cleaning the house..., then I'd actually feel full. I also began to think of food as distasteful (sorry for the pun). My desire to eat was zero. I lost a lot of weight, but felt fine. My family sat me down and almost forced me to eat, because they were afraid for me..scary.
Wow, second thought about going on the lemon detox now! Not to mention i hate lemon.. What is a good 7 day weight loss cleansing dextox, that doesn't involve eating food?
I went on the detox and I had more energy ON the diet than I normally do. I liked it, I got the weight off I needed to get off in 10 days, I haven't gained it back and it's been more than 6 months since I finished.
The detox is good for killing and getting rid of parasites, cleaning your colon, getting rid of rotting cancerous fecal mater and it helped clear up my acne in a matter of days (and I don't even eat that much bad food) I'm doing it again.
@Zibhdi what he says makes sense. just think of a balloon. say your balloon is filled completely with air (nutrients). you dont add air in the balloon for 10-40 days so naturally, it will deflate (losing weight). when the 10-40 days are over, you fill the balloon with air again (nutrients). so the balloon will inflate and expand (gaining weight). once you are off the detox diet, you will gain the weight you lost back and more for your body to store the nutrients it needs. :)
@Monomizu I hear what you're trying to say. But there is a key factor to your example that further proves my point. How much air are you refilling the balloon with? If you fill it with what originally escaped there is no gain past the original size. Little air little gain.
But he said "when you go off the detox diet your going to end up fatter than when you started." In marketing that's called hitting a pain point. It's a scare tactic. That statement is both misleading and incorrect.
@Zibhdi You're consuming so few calories, your body goes into starvation mode. It knows it's not getting enough calories for energy, so it holds onto every calorie it can for as long as it can. Therefore, when you start to eat normal again, it'd be like consuming a LOT of calories, because you tricked your body into thinking this new "diet" is the norm. He's right. I've gone on low-calorie diets, and when I ate normal, I gained back the weight. Maybe not the first time, but the times after that.
@Zibhdi No offense, but to call this a scare tactic is ridiculous to me. It is possible to not gain weight after starving yourself for ten days, but you have to do it very slowly, gradually increasing calories. Not everyone's body may experience long-term effects the first few times, but if you are active, you will experience short-term effects like fatigue or fainting. I get dizzy consuming 1200 calories a day and just staying at home doing nothing.
@ImaginarYxGoddesS I call it a scare tactic because this guy is trying to sell his own product. It's a basic marketing move done all the time.
As for coming off a detox like this one, the only proper way to do so is slowly. You must continue a liquid diet slowly reintroducing solid foods. First broths then soups etc. But of course if you jump right back into your normal eating habits you're going to see fluctuations in your weight. And most likely get sick as well.
@Zibhdi Why would you want to even "detox" in this way? Eat strictly fruits and vegetables, they are natural detoxifiers and it's healthy.
In conclusion, even if you didn't get any bad side-effects, you're more likely to do it again in the future. And you might not be so lucky the second time. This method is too unhealthy and shouldn't be endorsed or allowed at all, because there is a HIGH chance that someone will have a bad experience.
@ImaginarYxGoddesS In a perfect world you'd be right but that's just not the case. Through over farming the soil has been striped of many of the nutrients that enrich fruits and veggies. Why do you think we need to take multivitamins? The foods just don't contain what they used to. Did you know a cup of spinach today has no where near the nutritional value it did 50 years ago?
Do a bit more research on a subject before you dismiss it on the bias info of one source.
@Zibhdi Actually scientific research has shown that multivitamins are bad for you.
The supposed "beneficial" effects of multivitamins have been proven to be produced by the confounding factor that those who take vitamins, on average, make healthier life choices. I.e. exercise reguarly do not eat lots of take outs, do not smoke etc etc.
I agree with everything he's said but he hasn't taken into account that when you do the detox, there is a way to come off the fast and maintain. You just don't come off the detox and go back to eating the way you were before - that defeats the purpose, especially for those who did the fast to DETOX in the first place.
I never heard of the lemon detox diet, I don't think i'd try it anyways but im glad I learned about it. You gotta becareful about what they advertise, sometimes I wish there was a law that prevented them from selling such dangerous stuff. I do have a question, If your doing a lot of cardio and not a lot of weight lifting, how much protine you need to keep from losing muscel mass?
I'd take the advice of this video alot more seriously, if you weren't trying to pimp your own website in diet in the process. Credibility... not much. It's hard to take anyone seriously with things like this when money is involved.
@jonw82 I share your concerns about independent comment but if I really wanted to use this for huge commercial gain, I'd be pimping pills, supplements or potions. I don't sell any of these, just a diet plan with real, natural, nutrient rich foods that provide all the nutrients that optimise your body's own detoxification process & metabolic function. Why would you want to starve your body of this nourishment?
@jamessfromtx So many people tell me its detox not a diet, but the negeative effects on your metabolic function are the same so why argue about this? Its promoted for weight loss & many people do it for that. If you don't need to lose weight, why do you need to detox anyway as you should be optimising your diet with nutrient-rich foods all the time. Why risk missing out on these?
@jamessfromtx You're right, it's not a diet, because you're not eating anything. But if you want to call this a cleanse, then it's an unhealthy cleanse. You can consume the same amount of calories as the drinks in any food (i.e. chocolate) and you will get the same results. Fat loss and muscle loss. I've done this method of dieting a few times in my life, and it has messed up my metabolism. You have to be VERY careful when eating healthy again, because you will gain the weight back fast.
This diet is idiotic! You cannot live on that crap. Detoxification diets are all unnecessary. Just eat a kilo of fruit and vegetables a day little salt little meat. Some fish and whole grains. That's all.
@45640uberfreak It should be that simple, so I get concerned when people try to go for quick fixes that have real risks. Eat lots of vegetables to get the antioxidants that are natural detoxifiers
Lemon Detox is actually bad. I know someone that tried it, passed out and ended up in hospital cause of it. Ur better of not going on a diet and just eating healthy and exercising.
Matt, you are exactly right about your assumptions of what the detox would do to ones body. I did it twice within the past few years to try to lose weight. Why, twice, I don't know, because after the first time I lost fat and muscle, lowered my metabolism and gained ALL the weight back PLUS more!! Same thing happened the 2nd time, so now, instead of being just 10 lbs overweight from when I first did it I'm now 30 lbs overweight! Terrible. I would recommend never to do this detox for weight loss.
@11CUB11 So many people tell me its detox not a diet, but the negeative effects on your metabolic function are the same so why argue about this? Its promoted for weight loss & many people do it for that. If you don't need to lose weight, why do you need to detox anyway as you should be optimising your diet with nutrient-rich foods all the time. Why risk missing out on these?
This diet isn't about preserving muscle for the 10-40 days (however you long you choose to do it). It about detoxifying and the eating properly thereafter!!
@johnmichaelus806 So many people tell me its detox not a diet, but the negeative effects on your metabolic function are the same so why argue about this? Its promoted for weight loss & many people do it for that. If you don't need to lose weight, why do you need to detox anyway as you should be optimising your diet with nutrient-rich foods all the time. Why risk missing out on these?
Well if you took a multivitamin and a high protein drink (metabolic protein, I think it is 80 grams of protein). Would that effectively counteract the issues with the diet?
@joshua61991 It;s logical to think of a work-around for this, but then you may as well eat real, nutrient-rich food than try to fix something that has negeative effects on optimal muscle and metabolic function.
My advice would be use this as a last result. If you have tried jogging etc to lose weight but like me just loves those marinated chicken wings too much then do this detox. The big thing is after the 7 days your stomach has shrunk and isn't used to food so ease back into eating solids slowly and take advantage of your smaller stomach with PORTION CONTROL. Smaller meals should stop the weight from coming back on!
@tigerfur11 Once again, whether you call it a detox or a diet (the company in Australia has called it the Lemon Detox Diet for a long time) the negative impact is the same and many people use it directly for weight loss.
I think what he says about proteins, carbs etc are fine for a normal diet BUT many health retreats around the world have detox type fasts for not only weight loss but health and many people are cured of many diseases. So what if your missing out proteins etc, your giving the body a rest, a chance to heal and recupperate. Some things can't be explained by science, so many on this glow with health that is all proof needed
@justnatural many of the retreats are bogus too remember, when it comes to weight loss the scientific community is a bit perplexed. We all know how to do it (cut calories and fats a stable amount while increasing exercise) but we don't want to do that because it's kinda hard for people. (and dont say "That doesn't work for me!" becuase guess what, you did it wrong, you half-assed the exercise or diet, it is physically impossible to not lose some weight in a gradual fashion with diet/exercise.
when a person with their own website which sells dieting/detox information uploads an anti-lemon detox video it's usually because they want to eliminate the competition....
What competition? I'm promoting the facts about real whole food and nutrient-rich eating. I'm not selling you or anyone any pills, potions or lotions. Matt
@mjpartners When you are fat like me..I've had two kids..you don't really care about nutrients and stuff you want to lose as much as you can as fast as you can. Then worry about working out and nutrients when you can.
the spice thing is very relevant. overweight people generally like blander foods in my experience. it doesn't inspire good metabolic rate. spice is good
Hi, the best way to detox is to get off junk food & nourish your body with nutrient-rich foods, so you supply your liver with all the nutrients it needs to perform at its peak. Perhaps you can tell me what you think a detox is & why we need it? I'll be able to comment then. Matt
so matt, you dont know shit about sugar do you. Sugar is the bodies preferred source of food. Carbo loading is important so you can creat ATP for energy and not burn muscle for energy.
Sorry you feel you need to be abusive. Sugar is important for body fuel but you can't make muscle protein out of sugar. You need protein and with only 8 grams of protein a day on this detox, you wil start to burn up your own muscles for fuel. It looks like you may be a bit short on the facts here. Matt
Matt, the amount of protein per day depends on our body type and size. Saying a person requires 8 grams of protein per day during a detox is definitely the wrong information, and it doesn't look that way at all, I am for sure you are full of shit.
I agree its the wrong information. I think you've misread my reply if you think I said 8 grams is OK. So, we may be agreeing on something here. Re protein, I recommend a min 1g / kg / day during fat loss which is 60 g / day for a 60 kg person and higher when you weight more. Athletes & strength athletes may need up to 1.8 g / day. Matt
You could get your protein from bars/supplements and you'd expect not to lose as much muscle, but I still ask why do it when eating nutrient-rich foods helps your body detox so much better?
if you really want to burn 20 punds in 2 weeks just get a perscription of Adderall xr and sit on your ass all day. you'll only crave food 1 time during the day tops.
Pour rester en Santé, il faut bien manger (Protéines, fibres,Oméga, Fruits et légumes variés et avoir de bonne nuits de sommeille et FAIRE DE L'EXERCICE ;)
To stay healty , you all need to eat protein, fibers, omega 3, a lot of vegtable and various king of fruit, combined with good night sleep and 3 to 4 time excercice a week !!!!!
Another thing to consider is if you have ANY type of stomach or intestinal sensitivity what so ever you will really throw your system out of whack. This "diet" will probably cause a lot of spastic colon problems.
most ppl who resort to this are looking for quick weight loss or ways to cover up eating disorders w/ faux "detox/herbal/natural" solutions. My recommendation: read "Eat to Live." Not a diet but change of life, a great aid to recognize nutrient dense, low calorie foods. Thanks Matt for exposing this as nonsense!
hey matt i just want to ask you...does lemon juice in water help with removing waste and toxins in your body even if it doesnt make you lose weight because ive been doin it for two months and i can sure say that i feel better when i do it
I can't give you any evidence that lemon in water has any special properties that detoxify other than; helping you keep your fluids up, being a refreshing drink and also the likelihood that you are doing other positive healthy things in your lifestyle at the same time. Keep drinking lemon water if you like, but not with syrup and as only sustenence for 9 days. Matt
Thanks for this info. What are your thoughts on drinking water with lemons ALL the time ? I've been drinking lots of water with lemons. One 1/2 goes in my water slices AND the other 1/2 gets juiced and poured into my water.
Hi Magalntegrity, lemons in water adds flavour so it may motivate you to drink more water, which is good. You'll get a good dose of vitamin C (which is a natiral antioxidant detoxifier). Beyond this, there are not special detoxifying, fat burning or slimming properties of lemon. Cheers, Matt
You're neglecting the huge benefit of this diet which is the main purpose and which is detoxifying the body...muscle mass will be gradually regained after the diet and going back to a healthy life style with a cleaner body. Thanks
Read the previous comments and my replies which show that living on a liquid syrup for 7-10days will starve your body of natural detoxifying antioxidants, phytochemicals and minerals found in nutrient-rich whole foods. A detox like this has been found to make liver function worse. Please just eat nutrient-rich foods, which I'm sure you'd find it had to argue against. Re muscle mass, its a lot harder to put back on, especially if you are into your 30s or 40s. Make the swict to nutrient rich, Matt
the guy doesnt even know what cayenne pepper is.. there's tons of people whove done this and have seen results... so you can talk all your crap about nutrients.. youre not malnurishing your body.. your body can handle it.. incase you dont know cayenne is full of minerals and vitamins
also.... once the diet is done everyone ive talked to has said they dont crave bad foods, and they have more energy... not everyone uses it for weight loss, they use it to start raw diets, for more energy, and other reasons
Einz2, I can get my clients to fix bad food cravings and have more energy with out the downsides of detox. You don't need to detox to get this benefit when you see how easy it can be to eat a nutrient-rich diet all the time. Wouldn't you just rather eat good wholefoods? And I don't think you've talked to enough people, because I've spoken to people who feel terrible after the detox experience. Matt
fair enough, its not for everybody, and i agree that if this was a regular diet it would by undernourished... but people can handle it for 10 days, and i think certain people that 10 days clears out their body,, theres been numerous cases where people get gunk and mucus from their bodys that a diet does not always get
I'm on your side with this but I don't know about the program , if I'm going to detox I don't want to put all kinds of stuff into my body , I want to get all kinds of stuff out of my body. Good comments +1
Einz2, do you think that people reading this will actually think that a few pinches of pepper will give you all the nutrients in a wholefoods, nutrient-rich diet? I know your abusive comment is a knee-jerk reaction to my critique of detox. Just ask this - would you rather get the nourishment of natural wholefoods that nature intended or deprive yourself of this. I'm choosing nutrient-rich to nourish because I know that detox does malnourish your body. Matt
Hi mate, nice video, I was told that lemon (not relating directly to lemon detox diet) leaves an alkalinic ash in your digestive system which is preferable for me trying to gain weight as proteins create too much acidity and the body will only absorb so much while acidy, I have read about it on the net, but getting your opinion as a proper your nutritionist would be much appreciated, cheers
Hi, fresh lemons are always tastier, however it won't make any difference to the outcome so you'll get the same effect whether you use fresh lemon or bottled lemon juice. Cheers - Matt
Matt, you are missing the point of the lemonade DETOX diet. The main purpose is to detoxify your kidney, liver, blood and intestine of years of metabolic wastes and toxins. Losing weight is a side effect. You will lose a little muscle over the course of the 10 days, but nothing that can't quickly be made up with a regular exercise routine. I personally lost very little weight and you never even mentioned drinking tea and the salt water flush. Actually do the diet yourself before you comment.
@joola997, great he's in the gym, but with only 8 grams of protein a day on the detox, he's seriously short on amino acids to make protein, so why malnjurish yourslelf when eating nutrient-rich can do it for you anyway? - Matt
I did this detox for 2 weeks, but not with this product, i bought 2 litres of B grade maple syrup. i didnt do this to loose weight, but to detox from all the crap we put in our bodies such as ALL animal byproducts. If you are worried about protien add a bit to the drink. After 4 days i was more energetic than ever! after 2 weeks i felt fantastic! you wont go straight back to old eating habbits, animal products make you sick just the smell, you will only feel like veg/salads after that anyway.
@NEODarmus, why not just not eat crap. I get my clients onto a nutrient-diet which gives all the benefits for detioxification without the downsides of the nutrient shortages for 10 days. Glad you are eating well - Matt
Detox? oh please...no detox has been proven to remove toxins...EVER! The human body removes 'toxins' itself! Each cell in our body does this, by itself without lemons, AMAZING i know!!! This diet is just for lazy fat people who want to lose weight fast in the short-term.
You are correct and in fact what you say is common sense. What you fail to mention is that the body cannot do this if we're putting toxins in faster than the body can dispose of them. Doing a detox allows the body to do the job it intends to do. A healthy diet of raw foods and truly organic foods and clean water would accomplish the same thing.
@green2lean, a nutrient-rich diet of natural foods is the best thing to maximise the normal detox process. Sure, you won't to minimise exposure to toxins by eating less rubbish, but aloso minimising intake of nutrient-rich foods on a detox will compromise the whole process. So just eat nutrient-rich all the time - Matt
yes the body removes toxins, and has been doing it the same way and at the same rate for 80,000 years. however things have changed in the last 100 years, and we are exposed to 1000nds of toxic chemicals every day, your body needs all the help it can get. i did it for the detox benifate, not the weight benifate.
@NEODarmus, malnourishing your body for 10 days is not the way to maxmise the natural detox process. Eating nutrient-rich foods does this. See the comments and link above for how the detiox compromised liver function. - Matt

MsMeoooow 2 months ago
@MsMeoooow TRY IT!!! JUST START AND IF U DONT LIKE IT STOP IT , THAT IT, U WONT DIE!!!! IT S REALLY GOOD, AND U DONT FEEL TIRED AT ALL, A BIT HUNGRY, OF COURSE, BUT ONLY THE FIRST 2-3 DAYS, IS WORTHED CAUSE CAN CLEAN U R BODY FROM TOXINS, an du can do it for 7 days , or 5 if u feel too, 10 days is better,,,,and also if u look in the site of the lemon detox, u have chance do choise the fasting, or alf fasting, u are aluod to eat some fuits....
akeyoakeyo 2 months ago
@akeyoakeyo I don't know.. i don't like the idea of not having the amount of calories my body needs.. I just wana loose about 5kg.. probably not worth it, there's better ways of going about loosing a couple kg's. The one where you still eat sounds good though, you don't have to starve yourself to clean your body of toxins.
MsMeoooow 2 months ago
why not just juice fresh lemons?
MegaSamson73 2 months ago
Everything he says here is 100% correct. It takes a long time to gain back muscle so unless u wanna wait years to have your metabolism back to where it was before you started this diet,(and it is a diet even if it's a "cleansing program" a: because the calories are insanely low and b: a diet is whatever you ingest) have fun being fatter then you were before you started when you finish it while you're trying to get back that muscle you lost.

whoknowswhathappened 5 months ago
No scientific evidence? That's not true nor is the fact that the Master Cleanser is torture. Like I said before if you want more information, read the book. Do the research for your self, or don't, i'm not too concerned to be honest. It sounds like you have a system for you that works so, keep it up.
whoknowswhathappened 6 months ago
@whoknowswhathappened Yeeeah, I did do the research. I found no scientific evidence and Stanley Burroughs certainly isn't someone I would want to take any advice from. *shrug*
MrRokePoke 5 months ago
Also, It's not only the mixture of juice you drink that rids the body of toxins. The Cleanse is a fast. Fasting allows your body to detox instead of focusing on digesting food. You can get the same positive effects from doing a water fast but who wants to be laid up in bed for 2 weeks!? The mixture allows your body to cleanse while allowing one to still function. Your body really has a beautiful way of cleansing itself if you allow it to do so.
whoknowswhathappened 6 months ago
@whoknowswhathappened Again, you're making a lot of claims that sound very nice, but are also very vague and don't have any backing scientific evidence.
MrRokePoke 6 months ago
People who are "Legally Certified" generally have the interests of corporations and medicine companies in mind. Not by any fault of their own, it's just that's what they have been taught through the education system. The cleansing refers to getting rid of materials that are toxic and harmful to the body. Don't take my word, or anyone's word for it. It seems you are interested enough to buy the small book by Stanley Burroughs and try it. I'm certain all of your skepticism will be appeased.
whoknowswhathappened 6 months ago
@whoknowswhathappened Actually, no. My interest lies with nutrition and healthy eating. I have absolutely no interest in needlessly torturing myself.

Every nutritionist agrees that before restructuring your diet it is essential to cleanse so that your body can absorb properly on your new diet.
whoknowswhathappened 7 months ago
@whoknowswhathappened What exactly is meant by 'cleansing' the body? The lemon detox diet, as with any commercial detox method, claims that it 'cleanses' the body and removes 'toxins'. But it doesn't specify what it cleanses the body of, what toxins it removes or how. It's possible that it does have a 'cleansing effect'. But that claim is not supported by any evidence and certainly hasn't been proven. It's also hard believe that any responsible, qualified nutritionist would endorse this.
MrRokePoke 6 months ago
@MrRokePoke Having just done a bit of research, I'll rephrase my last point. I find it difficult to believe that any responsible, qualified DIETICIAN would endorse this. Unlike 'Dietician', the term 'nutritionist' is not a legally protected term and ANYONE could legally call themselves a 'qualified nutritionist', so it's not actually hard to believe that a nutritionist would endorse this.
MrRokePoke 6 months ago
I see many odd ideas. To lose weight by going into starvation is not a solution. Try to think back to the old days and list what came out of the garden and the farms. Fruit, Vegetables, fish, meat, rice, potatoes... also think of what those plants and animals was eating and add fresh air, water and exercise to it all.
elektron2kim 7 months ago
Its not advertised as a weight loss product. Its advertised as a detox diet. Its intention is to detoxify. Its like doing a water fast without being as difficult because there is a little bit of energy provided due to the sugar. The Cayenne probably increases circulation and metabolism temporarily and the lemon probably helps stimulate the bowels.
svtcontour 8 months ago
Costly, temporary fix and lemons and sugars (in the syrups) are acidic (pathogens/cancers love a slightly acidic body). The sugar alone is an indication to avoid the product. The price tag also.
sownzgr8 8 months ago
weight loss and then maintenance is a lifestyle, not a two week fling. any diet that has you losing more than 1lb or so of body weight, without excersize over a weeks time, is most certainly going to be detrimental to your metabolism, and to your precious precious muscle mass, of which is needed to aid you in fat loss when doing it the right way. these cleansings are utter bullshit, and should never be done, period!

Fasting is safe. The Lemonade diet is the closest thing to fasting that you can get. If you want to be skeptical because this joker is marketing his own product, then go ahead. The Lemonade diet is a natural way to lose weight without bodily harm. There are precautions that must be taken, like with any diet, but when followed correctly, this diet is more effective than any I've ever seen.
ernieknoddy 1 year ago
I have also done the Master Cleanse or Lemonade Diet. It is a wonderful diet! You will certainly have horrible hunger pangs for the first few days, but they start to go away. Your body adapts to your calorie intake and begins to function regularly and more efficiently than it was before. As far as the protein intake per day, this tool bag is right. It is not enough to keep the muscle you already have, so I took powdered wheat grass. The taste is disgusting, but overall, the diet's worth it
ernieknoddy 1 year ago

I went on the detox and I had more energy ON the diet than I normally do. I liked it, I got the weight off I needed to get off in 10 days, I haven't gained it back and it's been more than 6 months since I finished.
The detox is good for killing and getting rid of parasites, cleaning your colon, getting rid of rotting cancerous fecal mater and it helped clear up my acne in a matter of days (and I don't even eat that much bad food) I'm doing it again.

so what would u say is a good diet and cleanse?
anachicago123 1 year ago
Did he say you'd in up fatter? You lost me with that comment alone.
If you're "starving" yourself based on those numbers it's scientifically impossible to gain any weight. Matt, what are you talking about?
Zibhdi 1 year ago
@Zibhdi what he says makes sense. just think of a balloon. say your balloon is filled completely with air (nutrients). you dont add air in the balloon for 10-40 days so naturally, it will deflate (losing weight). when the 10-40 days are over, you fill the balloon with air again (nutrients). so the balloon will inflate and expand (gaining weight). once you are off the detox diet, you will gain the weight you lost back and more for your body to store the nutrients it needs. :)
Monomizu 1 year ago
@Monomizu I hear what you're trying to say. But there is a key factor to your example that further proves my point. How much air are you refilling the balloon with? If you fill it with what originally escaped there is no gain past the original size. Little air little gain.
But he said "when you go off the detox diet your going to end up fatter than when you started." In marketing that's called hitting a pain point. It's a scare tactic. That statement is both misleading and incorrect.
Zibhdi 1 year ago
@Zibhdi You're consuming so few calories, your body goes into starvation mode. It knows it's not getting enough calories for energy, so it holds onto every calorie it can for as long as it can. Therefore, when you start to eat normal again, it'd be like consuming a LOT of calories, because you tricked your body into thinking this new "diet" is the norm. He's right. I've gone on low-calorie diets, and when I ate normal, I gained back the weight. Maybe not the first time, but the times after that.
ImaginarYxGoddesS 1 year ago
@ImaginarYxGoddesS That's a possibility but it's also a possibility that you ate more than normal because you were hungry.
Again we're talking about a 10 day detox not 20 or more days of starvation, or even weight lose dieting.
It's not going to have as adverse an effect as he's claiming. It's a reasonable sounding scare tactic.
Zibhdi 1 year ago
@Zibhdi No offense, but to call this a scare tactic is ridiculous to me. It is possible to not gain weight after starving yourself for ten days, but you have to do it very slowly, gradually increasing calories. Not everyone's body may experience long-term effects the first few times, but if you are active, you will experience short-term effects like fatigue or fainting. I get dizzy consuming 1200 calories a day and just staying at home doing nothing.
ImaginarYxGoddesS 1 year ago
@ImaginarYxGoddesS I call it a scare tactic because this guy is trying to sell his own product. It's a basic marketing move done all the time.
As for coming off a detox like this one, the only proper way to do so is slowly. You must continue a liquid diet slowly reintroducing solid foods. First broths then soups etc. But of course if you jump right back into your normal eating habits you're going to see fluctuations in your weight. And most likely get sick as well.
Zibhdi 1 year ago
@Zibhdi Why would you want to even "detox" in this way? Eat strictly fruits and vegetables, they are natural detoxifiers and it's healthy.
In conclusion, even if you didn't get any bad side-effects, you're more likely to do it again in the future. And you might not be so lucky the second time. This method is too unhealthy and shouldn't be endorsed or allowed at all, because there is a HIGH chance that someone will have a bad experience.
ImaginarYxGoddesS 1 year ago
@ImaginarYxGoddesS In a perfect world you'd be right but that's just not the case. Through over farming the soil has been striped of many of the nutrients that enrich fruits and veggies. Why do you think we need to take multivitamins? The foods just don't contain what they used to. Did you know a cup of spinach today has no where near the nutritional value it did 50 years ago?
Do a bit more research on a subject before you dismiss it on the bias info of one source.
Zibhdi 1 year ago
@Zibhdi Actually scientific research has shown that multivitamins are bad for you.
The supposed "beneficial" effects of multivitamins have been proven to be produced by the confounding factor that those who take vitamins, on average, make healthier life choices. I.e. exercise reguarly do not eat lots of take outs, do not smoke etc etc.

I agree with everything he's said but he hasn't taken into account that when you do the detox, there is a way to come off the fast and maintain. jonw82 1 year ago 13
SmartShape 1 year ago
@jonw82 He's right, though.

Well, you're missing the point. It's not a DIET. It's a CLEANSE. It's not about weight loss, it's about cleaning out your body.
jamessfromtx 1 year ago 13
@jamessfromtx So many people tell me its detox not a diet, but the negeative effects on your metabolic function are the same so why argue about this? Its promoted for weight loss & many people do it for that. If you don't need to lose weight, why do you need to detox anyway as you should be optimising your diet with nutrient-rich foods all the time. Why risk missing out on these?
SmartShape 1 year ago 3
@jamessfromtx You're right, it's not a diet, because you're not eating anything. But if you want to call this a cleanse, then it's an unhealthy cleanse. You can consume the same amount of calories as the drinks in any food (i.e. chocolate) and you will get the same results. Fat loss and muscle loss. I've done this method of dieting a few times in my life, and it has messed up my metabolism. You have to be VERY careful when eating healthy again, because you will gain the weight back fast.
ImaginarYxGoddesS 1 year ago
This diet is idiotic! You cannot live on that crap. Detoxification diets are all unnecessary. Just eat a kilo of fruit and vegetables a day little salt little meat. Some fish and whole grains. That's all.

Terrible. I would recommend never to do this detox for weight loss.

joshua61991 1 year ago
@joshua61991 It;s logical to think of a work-around for this, but then you may as well eat real, nutrient-rich food than try to fix something that has negeative effects on optimal muscle and metabolic function.

My advice would be use this as a last result. If you have tried jogging etc to lose weight but like me just loves those marinated chicken wings too much then do this detox. The big thing is after the 7 days your stomach has shrunk and isn't used to food so ease back into eating solids slowly and take advantage of your smaller stomach with PORTION CONTROL. Smaller meals should stop the weight from coming back on!

I think what he says about proteins, carbs etc are fine for a normal diet BUT many health retreats around the world have detox type fasts for not only weight loss but health and many people are cured of many diseases. So what if your missing out proteins etc, your giving the body a rest, a chance to heal and recupperate. Some things can't be explained by science, so many on this glow with health that is all proof needed
justnatural 1 year ago
@justnatural many of the retreats are bogus too remember, when it comes to weight loss the scientific community is a bit perplexed. We all know how to do it (cut calories and fats a stable amount while increasing exercise) but we don't want to do that because it's kinda hard for people. (and dont say "That doesn't work for me!" becuase guess what, you did it wrong, you half-assed the exercise or diet, it is physically impossible to not lose some weight in a gradual fashion with diet/exercise.

Hi, the best way to detox is to get off junk food & nourish your body with nutrient-rich foods, so you supply your liver with all the nutrients it needs to perform at its peak. Perhaps you can tell me what you think a detox is & why we need it? I'll be able to comment then. Matt
SmartShape 2 years ago
so matt, you dont know shit about sugar do you. Sugar is the bodies preferred source of food. Carbo loading is important so you can creat ATP for energy and not burn muscle for energy.
realcampusman 2 years ago
Sorry you feel you need to be abusive. Sugar is important for body fuel but you can't make muscle protein out of sugar. You need protein and with only 8 grams of protein a day on this detox, you wil start to burn up your own muscles for fuel. It looks like you may be a bit short on the facts here. Matt
SmartShape 2 years ago
Matt, the amount of protein per day depends on our body type and size. Saying a person requires 8 grams of protein per day during a detox is definitely the wrong information, and it doesn't look that way at all, I am for sure you are full of shit.

I agree its the wrong information. I think you've misread my reply if you think I said 8 grams is OK. So, we may be agreeing on something here. Re protein, I recommend a min 1g / kg / day during fat loss which is 60 g / day for a 60 kg person and higher when you weight more. Athletes & strength athletes may need up to 1.8 g / day. Matt

So Matt, if it's the lack of protein that causes loss of muscle mass, what happens if you add protein bars/supplements to the diet?
kylieemery 2 years ago
ive devised a pretty effective alternative...
lemon detox (my own, not the gimmick pack)
creatine
cold milled hemp protein
(far superior to whey or soy protein in my opinion)
if you get hungry eat fruit
id say the lemon detox is a good thing to strictly adhere to for 3 days tops, without adequate protein and nourishment.
but it is a beneficial detox and gets your body in an alkaline state, which is imperative for muscle building.

You could get your protein from bars/supplements and you'd expect not to lose as much muscle, but I still ask why do it when eating nutrient-rich foods helps your body detox so much better?
SmartShape 2 years ago
if you really want to burn 20 punds in 2 weeks just get a perscription of Adderall xr and sit on your ass all day. you'll only crave food 1 time during the day tops.
chazden 2 years ago
what do you do when u crave the food

Pour rester en Santé, il faut bien manger (Protéines, fibres,Oméga, Fruits et légumes variés et avoir de bonne nuits de sommeille et FAIRE DE L'EXERCICE ;)
To stay healty , you all need to eat protein, fibers, omega 3, a lot of vegtable and various king of fruit, combined with good night sleep and 3 to 4 time excercice a week !!!!!

I agree... can anyone explain why a liquid only detox is needed when you eat this way.
SmartShape 2 years ago
Another thing to consider is if you have ANY type of stomach or intestinal sensitivity what so ever you will really throw your system out of whack. This "diet" will probably cause a lot of spastic colon problems.
xrossfader 2 years ago
most ppl who resort to this are looking for quick weight loss or ways to cover up eating disorders w/ faux "detox/herbal/natural" solutions. My recommendation: read "Eat to Live." Not a diet but change of life, a great aid to recognize nutrient dense, low calorie foods. Thanks Matt for exposing this as nonsense!

hey matt i just want to ask you...does lemon juice in water help with removing waste and toxins in your body even if it doesnt make you lose weight because ive been doin it for two months and i can sure say that i feel better when i do it
187jlokz 2 years ago
I can't give you any evidence that lemon in water has any special properties that detoxify other than; helping you keep your fluids up, being a refreshing drink and also the likelihood that you are doing other positive healthy things in your lifestyle at the same time. Keep drinking lemon water if you like, but not with syrup and as only sustenence for 9 days. Matt

wow thank you so much i was about to start this diet over christmas and i never knew that u lose muscle

Thanks for this info. What are your thoughts on drinking water with lemons ALL the time ? I've been drinking lots of water with lemons. One 1/2 goes in my water slices AND the other 1/2 gets juiced and poured into my water.
MegaIntegrity 2 years ago
Hi Magalntegrity, lemons in water adds flavour so it may motivate you to drink more water, which is good. You'll get a good dose of vitamin C (which is a natiral antioxidant detoxifier). Beyond this, there are not special detoxifying, fat burning or slimming properties of lemon. Cheers, Matt

You're neglecting the huge benefit of this diet which is the main purpose and which is detoxifying the body...muscle mass will be gradually regained after the diet and going back to a healthy life style with a cleaner body. Thanks
ThaljaSnowFlake 2 years ago
Read the previous comments and my replies which show that living on a liquid syrup for 7-10days will starve your body of natural detoxifying antioxidants, phytochemicals and minerals found in nutrient-rich whole foods. A detox like this has been found to make liver function worse. Please just eat nutrient-rich foods, which I'm sure you'd find it had to argue against. Re muscle mass, its a lot harder to put back on, especially if you are into your 30s or 40s. Make the swict to nutrient rich, Matt

I haven't read all the comments..........but I guess it makes sense when you put it this way...thanks
ThaljaSnowFlake 2 years ago
the guy doesnt even know what cayenne pepper is.. there's tons of people whove done this and have seen results... so you can talk all your crap about nutrients.. youre not malnurishing your body.. your body can handle it.. incase you dont know cayenne is full of minerals and vitamins
Einz2 2 years ago
also.... once the diet is done everyone ive talked to has said they dont crave bad foods, and they have more energy... not everyone uses it for weight loss, they use it to start raw diets, for more energy, and other reasons
Einz2 2 years ago
Einz2, I can get my clients to fix bad food cravings and have more energy with out the downsides of detox. You don't need to detox to get this benefit when you see how easy it can be to eat a nutrient-rich diet all the time. Wouldn't you just rather eat good wholefoods? And I don't think you've talked to enough people, because I've spoken to people who feel terrible after the detox experience. Matt
SmartShape 2 years ago
@SmartShape
fair enough, its not for everybody, and i agree that if this was a regular diet it would by undernourished... but people can handle it for 10 days, and i think certain people that 10 days clears out their body,, theres been numerous cases where people get gunk and mucus from their bodys that a diet does not always get
Einz2 2 years ago
I'm on your side with this but I don't know about the program , if I'm going to detox I don't want to put all kinds of stuff into my body , I want to get all kinds of stuff out of my body. Good comments +1
dangraves3031 2 years ago

Wmagic1990 2 years ago
thank you for sharing these facts definatley will not be doing this diet
bessie3030 2 years ago
Matt you are supposed to use a fresh lemon
hassleandhurrylife19 2 years ago
Hi, fresh lemons are always tastier, however it won't make any difference to the outcome so you'll get the same effect whether you use fresh lemon or bottled lemon juice. Cheers - Matt
SmartShape 2 years ago
Matt, you are missing the point of the lemonade DETOX diet. The main purpose is to detoxify your kidney, liver, blood and intestine of years of metabolic wastes and toxins. Losing weight is a side effect. You will lose a little muscle over the course of the 10 days, but nothing that can't quickly be made up with a regular exercise routine. I personally lost very little weight and you never even mentioned drinking tea and the salt water flush. Actually do the diet yourself before you comment.

My mate did the detox diet for the 14 day max and he lost 6kgs, he stayed in the gym every day and maintained his muscle mass.
joola997 2 years ago
@joola997, great he's in the gym, but with only 8 grams of protein a day on the detox, he's seriously short on amino acids to make protein, so why malnjurish yourslelf when eating nutrient-rich can do it for you anyway? - Matt
SmartShape 2 years ago
I did this detox for 2 weeks, but not with this product, i bought 2 litres of B grade maple syrup. i didnt do this to loose weight, but to detox from all the crap we put in our bodies such as ALL animal byproducts. If you are worried about protien add a bit to the drink. After 4 days i was more energetic than ever! after 2 weeks i felt fantastic! you wont go straight back to old eating habbits, animal products make you sick just the smell, you will only feel like veg/salads after that anyway.
NEODarmus 2 years ago
@NEODarmus, why not just not eat crap. I get my clients onto a nutrient-diet which gives all the benefits for detioxification without the downsides of the nutrient shortages for 10 days. Glad you are eating well - Matt

Detox? oh please...no detox has been proven to remove toxins...EVER! The human body removes 'toxins' itself! Each cell in our body does this, by itself without lemons, AMAZING i know!!! This diet is just for lazy fat people who want to lose weight fast in the short-term.
Nicoles895 2 years ago
You are correct and in fact what you say is common sense. What you fail to mention is that the body cannot do this if we're putting toxins in faster than the body can dispose of them. Doing a detox allows the body to do the job it intends to do. A healthy diet of raw foods and truly organic foods and clean water would accomplish the same thing.
green2lean 2 years ago 3
@green2lean, a nutrient-rich diet of natural foods is the best thing to maximise the normal detox process. Sure, you won't to minimise exposure to toxins by eating less rubbish, but aloso minimising intake of nutrient-rich foods on a detox will compromise the whole process. So just eat nutrient-rich all the time - Matt
SmartShape 2 years ago
yes the body removes toxins, and has been doing it the same way and at the same rate for 80,000 years. however things have changed in the last 100 years, and we are exposed to 1000nds of toxic chemicals every day, your body needs all the help it can get. i did it for the detox benifate, not the weight benifate.
NEODarmus 2 years ago
@NEODarmus, malnourishing your body for 10 days is not the way to maxmise the natural detox process. Eating nutrient-rich foods does this. See the comments and link above for how the detiox compromised liver function. - Matt
