Yep. You're right. He was a corporal messenger back then, as he was covered in Iron Cross medals for his corageous acts. Then he was eventually blinded by mustard gas until the end of the war.

why do you suppose that no one ever mentions this war ever?? especially in school, you would think to hear about it alot in world history class. Its a shame, these guys sacrificed alot and barely got their recognition, but they will be remembered!

well, we hear alot about ww1 in history class, because it was fought in my country, and in some way it was very important for us, but yeah, actually little was archieved with ww1, i don't even know the actual reasons for the war, germany wanted to attack france, and the murder on Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary

I know why Britain and the Empire got involved they had signed treatys in London in 1839 respecting Belgiun neutrility in war time, when Belgium was invaded Britain kept to its oath from years before and declared war on August 4th 1914.

+ France and Britain were allies, germany's purpose was to attack France trough Belgium, Belgium denied and so the invaded Belgium to get to France.

@nubunator2 There were a lot of allies that time. when a country was attacked your allies joined the war. Austria-Hungary was allie of Germany. Austria-Hungary attacked Servia. Servia was Ally of Russia. Russia was ally of Great-Britain and france and such. Germany fought against the Serviers. Russia decleared war to Germany. so did France and great-Britain. Thats how it came tot a big World War. Anyway do you live in Belgium?
