the theme of the film is that we don't know what's going to happen, or how it will happen so just role with it. Hence why so many key moments in the film are left out.

this is combined with the fact that the point of the film is that it's pointless. nothing actually happens in the end.

@Foerris, there is a larger parallel the movie offers, namely Western colonialism and how they exploit the environment. Colonialism, Aboriginal assimilaiton and genocides around the world happened even worse than this story line. The writter is creating an "I-for-the-other" to make the audience reflexively understand the extent of Western exploitation. In Canada it was just for gold, lumber, copper and fish natives were killed, not this magical rock, so imagine the understatement message here.

I couldn't stop laughing during this movie. The characters are super nerdie and completely cracked me up. One must have an extremely dry sense of humor (as I do) to see the humor here. Also, the extent of this man's frustration, and his ability to control his temper, taps the "opposite outcome", style of humor, extremely well. Anyone else would have beaten-up or killed "Abe", rather than passively going along with him.
