  • The brits owned comedy during the 60's-90's. About the 90's the Americans took over and England have produced hardly any good comedy programs, only QI really springs to mind now. back in the goold old days we had As time goes by, open All hours, Prorridge, Keeping up Appearances, Only Fools and horses, Dad's Army, The Two Ronnies, Morecambe and Wise, Ever Decreasing Circles, Outside Edge. These are my favourites. Thank you David Croft. King of Comedy writing.

  • @TheWhipidhinio All in the Family was well written though of course based on a British original. Mash could be excellent, too, yet "Fawlty Towers" (also from the '70s) remains more consistently brilliant than just about anything else in the television era. (We can forgive John Cleese and Connie Booth all those jokes at the expense of the Spanish.)

  • @kinksfan1956 All in the Family was brilliant, & it credits the Brit show Til Death Do Us Part in its end credits. I'd like to see it! Fawlty Towers is fabulous! You forgive John Cleese as we forgive Carroll O' Connor! :) :) As for M*A*S*H*, it has no more inconsistencies (with cast names & other such details) than Are You Being Served, & both recycle old jokes ad nauseum, but Alan Alda's arrogance & egocentricity kept the series from shining as brilliantly as it could have. :P

  • @inkadinkadoodle p.s. I'm an American - or am I not supposed to admit that?!

  • @TheWhipidhinio

Rowan Atkinson rightly said : it is in the DNA of the british to be funny...How true. No one does comedy better than the brits!

  • @TheWhipidhinio not to mention fresh fields, 2point4 children, Bread, just good friends, the liver birds, and Last of the summerwine.

  • I'd like to hear a car salesmen, after a customer says the car is too low, say that it will ride up with wear.

  • As Time Goes By was good also

  • I love the show! And it's very sad that almost all the main cast are gone now.

  • "Are You Being Served?" was such a great show...I became a big fan when my PBS station started airing it late at night and paired it with "Keeping Up Appearances", another great show.

  • How come ALL the clothes they sell "rid up with wair"? =()

  • @timmannen It's "ride up with wear" as in as you wear it and you move about, the items ride up and so a larger size keeps you covered when they do. In terms of this series, it's an excuse they give for selling the customer poor fitting shoddy goods.

  • "Also WITHIN the sexes." :V

  • Ms Fanmail

    Yes he died

  • Mr Harman was better!

  • Mr Lucas was much better than Mr Spooner!

  • sweetdisease

You are so right! dislike this is a lack of humor!

  • gone where?

  • Such an excellent cast of actors and actress. Wish they still did comedies like this

  • Such a great show. Aww it's Pauline Fowler from Eastenders!

  • Colin Bean was in Dads Army

  • thanks for posting this

  • I love when Mrs. Slocombe talks about her dear pussy.

  • Mr.Humphries is my favorite character on this show. Keeping up appearances is another funny show too watch.

  • @united57

love KUA, but Mrs. Bucket reminds me of my mom too much back in the 90s. It was her pretentious self interested decade.

  • OMG THANKYOU!

  • omg i love mrs. slocombe's story about when she met her husband, rofl. brilliant!

  • I really wonder how Mrs Slocombe gets away with those insane hair colors without anyone saying a word

  • If you like this series like I do, you might want to watch ON The Buses with Reg Varney it's a funny show.

  • AAh thanks for all the answers lol

  • WHO THE FUCK DISLIKED THIS? WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU??

  • @sweetdisease shameful...they have no sense of humor and good comedy.

  • Comment removed

  • @sweetdisease yeah i agree with you who would dislike this?? would have to have screws loose up top

  • @sweetdisease i assure you, it wasn't me! i LOVE this episode -- & indeed, the whole series! :) :) i was just chuckling at the Scottish man: "And just where do you think you're going with that thing?" hahahahaaha....... & i think it's kinda cute how the young man gets shy in front of Miss Brahms about discussing the bra he wishes to buy,,, aww! :) :)

  • I <3 Mr.Humphrey^^

  • I always thought the expression ''The things you see when you havent got yer gun' meant that that you saw something so obnoxious/disgusting etc you would shoot it if you had your gun

  • @philpara1 In the U.S. the phrase goes: "The things you see when you haven't got your CAMERA"...same difference.

  • @MarkSentMe

yeah because they are obviously so few 'gun-nuts' here in america

  • @sillybabybunnies :) But the show wasn't written for us.

  • @ TheSaintVanity The expression "The things you see when you haven't got a gun", I believe, has been used three times in the series:

    (1) This episode from Mrs Slocombe;

    (2) The episode "Strong Stuff This Insurance" from Mr Goldberg;

    (3) The episode "Things That Go Bump In The Night" from Mr Moulterd (this was Grace and Favour, but it still counts)

  • Thesaintvanity They ate inferring that they would rather shoot themselves with "their gun" then see (for example) Mr. Granger without his pants on.

  • What do they mean when they say the things you see when you haven't got your gun 15:30? I know several characters say it throughout the entire series and Ive never heard it before. I tried yahoo and Google but I'm not getting any good answers.

  • @TheSaintVanity It's a reference to hunting and things you see when you're out for a walk without your gun. In the phrase, generally odd or bizarre things. My grandad (who wasn't a hunter btw) said it all the time.

  • One Of My Favourite Shows !

  • This was the Queen Mother's favortie show, she always had a tv wheeled into the dining hall when she was eating so she could watch it.

  • "And also within the sexes" LOL

  • lol @22:40 w/Mrs. Slocum: "He threw me on my face & said, 'Look Out! Here comes a Big One!'" haha ^_~\\

  • it will ride up with wear!!!

  • In this particular episode Ms. Slocum actually looks really good for a woman of her age!

  • That woman from 6:46 - 7:27 could be Ms. Brahms' mother! Their voices and accents are so similar...

  • 20:40 is the chorus from Keep the Home fires burning. Keep the Home Fires Burning, While your hearts are yearning. Though your lads are far away They dream of home. There's a silver lining Through the dark clouds shining, Turn the dark cloud inside out Till the boys come home.

Inman (Mr. Humphries) was so funny!!

  • i think old mr grace didn't have his glasses on and hit the dislike by accident. or he was ogling his secretaries garter straps again.....

  • How can anyone dislike this great comedy series??One person obviously doesnt like Mrs Slocombes pussy. (cat!!!)

  • Camping!

    I beg your pardon?

  • i love the singing part....it tugs at my heart. like...

  • i would hate to work there under those types of rules and socializing

  • One of the funniest episodes of a show that rarely misses. Great stuff!

  • Thank you so much for posting these

  • "look out! Here comes A BIG ONE"!!!!

  • Another Mr Lucas classic zing. Mr. Grangier, you left your flap open.

  • this is perhaps my second-favourite episode of this charming old comedy... when they are forced to camp in together on the department floor... ah, such class, such fellowship, such a cozy feeling, and such bad singing!

    thanks for posting these, mtnwin

  • frightening thought that mr. rumbold is in charge of that particular sales floor

  • All the 1970s sitcoms are the best better than the sitcoms today

  • this video is a little bit blurred compared to the others.

  • I love this show I can watch it over and over again.. Great comedy for over here in america

  • why does Mr Rumbold keep his socks on in bed?

  • @ITSDANIELCROSSLEY what's this? foreplay for you?

  • RIP TREVOR BANNISTER

  • @MsFanmail

    Trevor is gone?

  • @imjunipernow Yeah, he died in April :(

  • @imjunipernow yes. :(

  • @MsFanmail

I thought Trevor was still around :(

  • @sumyungai1 Sadly, he died only last year. April 14 to be exact, after a heart attack at his allotment

  • @Brittonsp who died??

  • @42bluey Trevor Bannister, the Guy who plays Mr Lucas. Incidentally, the only surviving members of the cast are Frank Thornton who played Captain Peacock and Nicholas Smith who played Mr Rumbold.

In Summary, Mr Lucas died April 11of a Heart Attack

Mrs Slocombe died July 09 of unspecified natural causes

Mr Humphries died of complications from Hep A he caught from food poisoning in March 07

Miss Brahms died of breast cancer in Feb 09

Mr. Grainger died 2 months after his wife in May 78

  • @Brittonsp Thank you for the cast summary -- it's always good to have info all in one spot (even when it's not particularly happy info)...Do I take it, then, that Mr. Spooner is the only cast member still alive (besides, perhaps, Mr. Grace's attendants, played by Penny Irving & Vivianne Johnson)?

  • @inkadinkadoodle No, As I said, Frank Thornton and Nicholas Smith also are alive. I didn't include Mr Spooner because I didn't consider him as main a character to be considered mentioning but he is still alive.

With the various nurses, receptionists and attendants that have appeared in the series, they didn't really have much of a role to be worth mentioning. Also, because they usually only did small parts in whatever they did, information on them is hard to come across.

  • the woman in underwear (minute 8) is very beautiful. There aren't any women like these anymore

  • RIP Mr. Lucas, you will be missed.

  • Heaven has gained another great AYBS character.Rest in Peace Trevor Bannister.

Capt Peacock and Mr Rumbolt are holding out quite well

  • @TheLeaflover for the moment! I think Frank Thornton will be next...very soon. He's 95

  • @portmeiriontours I think the whole cast has died, i think only cptn peacock is still alive.

  • @LeinMarjo Mr rumbold is still around but it's just him and Captain Peackock now.

  • I just read that mr.Lucas (Trevor Bannister) died at the age of 76, so sad. Is this show that old? Holy moly, it's the best show ever made :)

  • i love how on this show if it is too long it will always ride up with wear and if it is too short it will ride down with wear. lol

  • I liked Granger's impersonations in this one. My favorite AYBS actor overall is Trevor Bannister.

  • @burgerslimswing

Mine is too. Trevor was also very very easy on the eyes when he played Mr. Lucas. I always thought him and Ms. Brahms should have had a secret tryst just once. The whole store finds out...and laughs ensue.

  • This one does bring back some good memories, thanks for uploading them.

  • @MrTy122020 Who's ya favourite?

  • for the longest time when i was little me and my mom would go get chocolate milk and random snacks from the store on saturday nights and watch vicar of dibley, are you being served, keeping up appearances and chef on PBS, awesome times

  • 10:31 After Mrs. Slocombe makes the comment about Sodom and Gomorrah, what is the 'Swan and Ego' Mr. Humphries mentions?

  • @Blackthorne369 Also bless you, mtwini09, for uploading these seasons. I have missed them so.

  • @Blackthorne369 Swan and Edgar, was a department store at Piccadilly. It has now closed.

  • I realize this is a 70's show, but it was a big part of my programming as a kid, after the late show monologues and sketches i used to turn to the late airing re-runs on PBS and watch it on the way to sleep most school nights. This show was definitely in a league of its. Thanx for posting this. Thumbs up for nostalgia.

  • Bless you for these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love this show i have every season and im still watchin it here..lol..thankx for posting and i also love you chan.

  • One of the best episodes...what a great team they all were! Thx for putting these on.

  • @steveborders "Are you being served again" are the eposodes of them living together in a hotel they service. check it out.

  • @jakewer It's also called ''Grace and Favour.'' It's the same series . Perhaps for American viewers it was called ''Are you Being Served Again'' .

  • @steveborders i own AYBS and the spin-off in a DVD boxset and i still end up watching them over and over online. LOL

  • @steveborders There are a few episodes that aren't on here: Grounds For Divorce, A Personal Problem and a few others. There were a total of 69 episodes...Coincidence? I don't think so!

  • love that lucas hehe

  • XD at 26:57 Lucas is so random

  • 1970s sitcoms are the best compared to the rubbish we have on tv these days. This sitcom is so funny i don't know how mollie sudgen kept a straight face in this programme.

  • Thanks so much for putting this up! My mother comes from Barbados and she used to watch it with her family when she was a kid. We've most recently run into it again, and now we watch it together. I'm glad you posted these so we could watch them more often! :-)

  • Bless your heart for putting these up!! I balanced out a time in my life that really needed laughter and happiness like this show gives. I forever feel young and happy when I watch AYBS. Thank you, so, so, so very much!

  • This sitcom provides more laughs than anything nowadays.

  • Apparently the Scotsman never left the store after closing...I hope he found a place to sleep as well! LOL Thank you for uploading these classic shows!

  • Thanks. Love it.

  • Thank you for posting this. This is my favorite show of all time. I used to watched it with my father when I was a kid.

  • @pepperthephoenix im glad you can re experience those laughs with this show. :)

  • @pepperthephoenix thats sweet. Its a great show

  • @pepperthephoenix me too! they used to show it late late at night on PBS, so I would stay up and wait for him to get home from work, then we'd watch together. even at 4 years old, i could tell this was comedic gold!
