At least Taiwan has some decent tanks, those M60A3's pack a great deal of power and reasonable customization options. Given they have access to higher tier technology, add some reactive armor or something similar to those M60's and you got a more than capable MBT, unless you are determined to challenge a Leopard2 or something in that tier :P

The overall performance of Type 99A2 is better than M1A2. The main reason for that is Type 99A2 is a later model comparing to M1A2, but both of them are fairly close since they are all third generation MBT. M60 really isn't worth the comparison with even Type 96 since it is a full generation behind.
Chinese armor is made for quantity, not quality. Type 99 would not stand a chance against a modern much more expensive hi-tech tank such as Abrams, Leopard 2, Challenger, Merkava, Type 90 (Japanese), K1A1 or Ariete. Even T-90 / T-80U (which can be killed with 1 120mm at 4km and could only penetrate western tanks from rear or maybe weak spot at side) would probably outperform Type 99.
M60 can take on T-72s but to survive China's onslaught better tanks or upgrades (like Sabra) would be nice.

The 40 Skeets scan an area of 1,500 feet (460 m) by 500 feet (150 m) using infrared and laser sensors until it finds a target, or failing that, self-destructs 50 feet (15 m) above the ground. These weapons is safe it doesn't killed civilians. If it can't find targets it will self destruction in 50 fts.

Israelis discovered that it tended to sheer off and cut the TC in half if the tank turret took a solid hit, even if the turret wasn't penetrated. That's a mighty rough way for the gunner to be promoted.
At least Taiwan has some decent tanks, those M60A3's pack a great deal of power and reasonable customization options. Given they have access to higher tier technology, add some reactive armor or something similar to those M60's and you got a more than capable MBT, unless you are determined to challenge a Leopard2 or something in that tier :P

@qqaiq 单纯比装备技术参数是一种比法，如果你要结合战场形态，那要考虑的就太多了，中国还有大量的近中程弹道导弹，远程火箭炮，和现在已经占优的空中力量（按可以携带中距导弹的三代机算），更不用说等J20服役之后了。没有制空权就没有制海权这是共识，到时候不敢出海的不是中共的舰队，而是台湾的舰队，缺乏区域防空能力的台湾海军怎么面对马上就要拥有航母的中共海军海航和东南沿海无数的空军机场？真诚求教。

談到台海制空權，很少人知道IDF的空對空作戰勝過中國的蘇愷-27。蘇愷-27的確是優秀戰機，是多功能的重型戰機，除了有空中作戰能力之外，也有對地攻擊的能力，載重量較大，作戰航程也較遠。但是以防禦作戰為主的IDF，雖然對地攻擊的能力不如蘇愷-27，不過空對空的作戰能力卻勝過蘇愷-27。主要原因是IDF配備很厲害的天劍二型空對空飛彈，這種主動雷達導引的中程空對空飛彈可以「射後不理」（fireandforget），而且IDF的電子設備在較遠的距離就可以發現敵機，飛彈的射程也可以在較遠的距離先發射，發射飛彈之後可以馬上脫離現場，以免遭受敵機的攻擊。中國的蘇愷-27因為缺乏這種「射後不理」的飛彈，所以空對空的作戰能力不如IDF。

或許有人認為，只要高性能戰機的數量超越台灣，中國就可以取得台海制空權的優勢。其實這種想法並不正確，因為沒有考慮到另一個更可怕的空防力量>>地面防空飛彈系統。事實上，如果高性能戰機的數量沒有超過台灣的2～3倍以上，中國極不可能取得台海制空權的優勢。因為根據以往的戰爭紀錄，地面上防空火力打下戰機的數量，是空中戰機打下的3倍以上，可見地面上準確的防空飛彈比空中的戰機更恐怖。

@aska200 你这是N年以前的数据了，不知哪里copy过来的。截止到2011年2月，大陆J10装备至少300架，su27，su30，J11和全新升级的J11B 有500架以上（其中七十多架接近退役），海航飞豹B也有两百五十架，以上机型全部都可以发射中距弹具有超视距攻击能力。数量总和1000架以上，亚洲第一世界第二。而且中国早在2008年就已经开始量产国产的中距导弹，与台湾只能外购的情况不可同日而语。J11B，J10B，J15等三代半战机都已经成功装备或试飞，战力远超台湾的落后三代和二代战机。四代机将于2015年前后服役，更会对台湾造成绝对的不对称优势。多更新更新你的资讯吧。

根據推估，中國高性能戰機的數量在2015年之前要達到台灣的兩倍，雖非不可能，但是難度極高。因此，中國在公元2015年之前取得台海制空權的可能性很低。
根據國防部在去年10月提出的戰力評析報告，透過「武器效益指標法」量化兩岸海空主戰兵力「戰力比」，依「3比1定律」，攻防戰力比在3倍以上時，進攻者肯定會成功；2倍時的結果不肯定；1.5倍以下者，防禦者肯定會成功。
報告將兩岸戰力比較區分為三個期程，如果沒有執行目前規劃的重大軍購案，在2006年到2012年之間敵我戰力比為1.46：1，2013年到2019年之間則為2.18：1，2020年到2035年將會達到2.8：1的危險境地。由此可知，即使軍購案未過關，中國在2019年之前對台動武並無必贏的勝算.

@hehaozhi 98式比較屬於研發性質，只有少量配置於北京瀋陽軍區。99式才是共軍目前最新銳的戰車。但由於價格昂貴，所以還是以96式和99式高低配。由於裝備研發年代的不同，導致我軍實力上有所差距。整體來說，M60A3不如99式。但由於99式受限於造價並沒有大量裝備，所以M60A3可能的主要對手仍然是相對於99式較弱的96式，差距縮小許多。況且我國主戰車將運用在灘岸打擊及殲滅空降部隊及第五縱隊的任務上，並不需要與你們共軍主戰車作正面對決。如果共軍主戰車登陸台灣，我軍主戰車將利用越野能力較優的特性，採取地利的打帶跑戰術來換取時間，等( 美. 日. 韓 )盟軍來個區域聯防，所以並不需要花大錢購買較昂貴的先進主戰車。懂嗎???小鬼

@Germanyisthebest1 Well, in reality the advandcement of the technology means you can make a more lethal 105mm APFDS and other advanced 105mm ammo.aswell as better M68 rifled gun. Thus, the only the L55120mm smoothbore cannon can match the 105mm rifled cannon where the original L44 can't. So, this means the old M60A3 is equal agaisnt Leo2A6 in terms of reliability and firepower(including optics,fire control and communication) but Leo2A6 is rules in moblitity and armour.

@Germanyisthebest1 However, this all depends on how good the tank crews handle their tanks and the how the battlefield commanders use their strategy and tactic to win the battles for example the old Super Shermans used by Israeli’s in 1967 war. In most cases, I believe the Leopard 2A6 will definitely win against the old M60A3 because of its superior protection and mobility.

Ah no, the back bone of armored force in Taiwan uses M60 Patton, which is a full generation behind Abrams (US), Type 96 (China) or T-90 (Russia). Though you have to give Taiwan a break. The whole reason behind US aid to Taiwan is to use Taiwan as a deterrence China, but since China favors peaceful economic activities over military action, there really isn't any point for US to provide Taiwan with the top of the line stuff.

The overall performance of Type 99A2 is better than M1A2. The main reason for that is Type 99A2 is a later model comparing to M1A2, but both of them are fairly close since they are all third generation MBT. M60 really isn't worth the comparison with even Type 96 since it is a full generation behind.

Chinese armor is made for quantity, not quality. Type 99 would not stand a chance against a modern much more expensive hi-tech tank such as Abrams, Leopard 2, Challenger, Merkava, Type 90 (Japanese), K1A1 or Ariete. Even T-90 / T-80U (which can be killed with 1 120mm at 4km and could only penetrate western tanks from rear or maybe weak spot at side) would probably outperform Type 99.
M60 can take on T-72s but to survive China's onslaught better tanks or upgrades (like Sabra) would be nice.

I would also glad if US sell Taiwan CBU-97 SFW. The CBU-97 can't destroyed 40 ground war machines targets. The 40 Skeets scan an area of 1,500 feet (460 m) by 500 feet (150 m) using infrared and laser sensors until it finds a target, or failing that, self-destructs 50 feet (15 m) above the ground. The F-15SE and F-16E/F could carry advance electrol optical. The Taiwanese air force also need new AWACS like 737 AEW&C. The 737 AEW&C is better than PLA KJ-2000. The 737 AEW&C use MESA (Multirole Electronically Scanned Array) radar is better than L-band radar use by KJ-2000. The 737 could track more targets and more range than KJ-2000. The KJ-2000 is too fat and too slow so it could easily shot down. While 737 is fast and less weight and get out of the area a lot faster.

They need F-16E/F Super Viper instead of F-16C/D. The F-16E/F could take on J-10B Vigorous Dragon and FC-1 Fierce Dragon. They also need the F-15SE Silent Eagle. @obsidianstatue Yea so Chinas growing...that doesnt stop the US from supporting Taiwan...because of the Taiwan Relations Act -1979, the US is bound to help Taiwan if it gets attacked and give it enough arms to ward off attacks

Taiwan really need new Tanks! They also need new Armour Personal Carrier, Infantry Fighting Vehicles, Self Propelled Artillery, Towed Artillery, Armour Fighting Vehicles, and others for their troops.

Taiwan's Army need a new tank to replace M60A3. The M60A3 doesn't stand a chance against China Type 96A/G & Type 99A2/KM. US could supply Taiwan the M60-2000 SEP v1/2 and also the M1A2 SEP v1/2.

@SilentEagles i dont see why would taiwan want tanks. its usless in taiwanese terrain. China invading taiwan WILL have air-supremacy so tanks are only slow moving targets for the PLAAF. this is not world war 2 the age of tanks has passed.

The age of tanks battle is not over yet. China will invade Taiwan by their PLA Navy and Marines from their mainland across strait of Taiwan to Taiwan mainland. They will drop in Tanks, APC, IFV, AIFV, Self Propelled Artillery, & other ground war machines. PLA military planes would easily shot down by US made PAC-3 SAM. China attack Taiwan then US will response massive military counter attack. US Navy Ships Armada & sky warrior of USAF will do a lot of damage to PLA military.

@SilentEagles stupid, China has 1500 ballistic missiles custum made for destroying taiwan, 240 of them will completly desable taiwanese airports military/civilian. all 4th generation fighters sycj as J-10 or J-11 has evasive techneque and technology to activly and passivly destory incomming SAMs. also China has already has the design of PAC-3 we got it from israel, combine pac-3 with Russian S-300=Chinese made HQ-9.

Too bad for Chinese ballistic missiles it will get shot down easily by upgraded PAC-3. China J-11 and J-10 will easily get shot down by F-22 and F-15E that deployed in Guam. USAF B-2 Spirit would whipped out your Air defense systems and military base on the grounds. US aircraft carriers and their aircraft would scare away your PLA Navy and Marines. HA! Chinese haven't finish up their aircraft carriers. China not have 5th Gen. Stealth fighter aircraft. PLA military doesn't stand.

China can't do anything to Taiwan. China know if they invade Taiwan they will end getting their butt kicked by US military. China can't stop trading with US other wise China economy will go bad to worst. Also China can't throw away and replace US dollars other US going sell advance weapons, hardware, technology, and war machines to Taiwan. China would then get piss off. China can't do anything to US and Taiwan.

@xChevyx350x who will counter attack, China has air-supremacy agaisnt most of its neighbours, and not to mention any plane taking off on island of taiwan will be in range of Chinese air-defence missiles and not to mention China has the electronic warfare supremacy over taiwan, if americans and japs come we will saturate their fleets and air force with our missiles, Chinese made and world ONLY DF-21D ASBM is a good missile to sink american and jap fleets.

Good to see that Free Taiwan is still willing to stand strong against tyranny. Ignore what Obama says- the US will never abandon a free nation to the vicious tyranny of the butchers of Tienanmin Square. One bit of advice-scrap the .50 caliber cupola at the commanders hatch. Israelis discovered that it tended to sheer off and cut the TC in half if the tank turret took a solid hit, even if the turret wasn't penetrated. That's a mighty rough way for the gunner to be promoted.
