  • Thank you for one of the best films I've ever seen! You are great !

Fantasy is the best form of dreaming ;D

  • what does it record on to? an I hear there $17k

  • its 5k resolution

  • i want red, epic cameras

  • Someday, someday I'm getting my hands on a RED. Gah!

  • @Deathrape2001 ur here again. let me delete all your useless paragraphs once again

  • @Deathrape2001 So whst you are saying is that all cameras that are more expensive than what you will ever afford in your life is a scam since there are cameras out there that are cheap and shoot great video. If you were to throm your little Nikon footage up in a cinema you would find that the "superior" hd quality is more like 240p on youtube. The red is supposed to be able to replace film. While film is great it will only work if you dont post precess it digitally, like they do today.

  • @Deathrape2001 While the D5100 is a great camera for video and photo it is still an ENTRY LEVEL dslr that is made for spoiled bitches in the us. You cant compare something that is considered a startup camera to something like the Red One or the Epic. All dlsr`s try to make that crisp look to their video, but the red makes the footage look way more natural and clear. Comparing the red vs the d5100 on youtube makes no sence since the quality of botch cameras are sagfnificantly dropped.

  • @Deathrape2001 From the structure of your sentences to your blatant irrational thinking, I seriously doubt you graduated with your high school diploma and it is therefore pointless to attempt conversation. Il just stop replying from now on and remove all your posts.

  • @Deathrape2001 on the contrary i use dslrs for all of my work. They are just the next evolutionary step towards more affordable and better cameras. You are incredibly irrational and sound like a conspiracy theorist. Dont forget your tinfol hat now.

  • @Deathrape2001 yea i guess the 18,000 parts that make up the rest of the camera arent worth anything. Oh and the software writes itself. Oh and lets not forget redcode, that algorithm just formulated itself out of thin air.

  • @Deathrape2001 Scam? No this isnt scam, this is peter jackson thanking the red team for giving him the camera. He is a director who dosent get to much into the "spechs" of the camera, but rather what the final image comes out as. He needs top quality footage from his camera. He understands that shooting movies in film is gonna be out in a few years. As a director he dosent care about the technical details of the camera bacause he is a visual artist that tries to make digital film.

  • You can't replace film dick! All these retarded people comparing film to 4K 5K what ever! They are not the same and never will be!

  • @TheRichcolours You are the stupidest shit ever.

  • @Deathrape2001 hmm I didnt know that about the Nikon, thanks! Whats ur opinion about the Panavision Genesis?

  • @fraddi HEY HEY! I did some research & found out the Nikon D5100 uses the Sony IMX071 sensor, as in their Alpha 580, & Pentax K-5 = total realism:

    Pentax K-5: HD Video Sample

    watch?v=o89lLQhtURU

=) NICE! I'm leaning toward the Pentax, as it has a stainless steel body with magnesium shell, instead of the Nikon which people say breax easy 'cuz plastic =( Maybe the sony brand - who knows. Still researching! I bet the Arri Alexa uses the Sony sensors, as has natural look, unlike RED.

  • @iCruzTv

No- Red has been supported natively in FCP for the past three versions and also, AVID, Adobe CS 4 and above, etc. I know because I've posted red footage in all of them and have been working with this camera since its release. You can use red's software if you want to, but you don't have to.

  • Comment removed

  • @iCruzTv It's really simple - REDCineX is free and converts it all to quicktimes to go straight into FCP for you - what really is a pain in the arse is FINAL CUT X which is bollocks! :)

  • And even if the Red Epic theoretically had that much *true* latitude, it's a good bet the digital projectors don't. You would probably need to be watching a 35mm print to see the full range.

  • Let me clear this up right now: you can't really compare a random grain structure like film has to pixels, but in terms of equivalent definition, 35mm = 4K-6K depending on format/film stock, and 65mm is closer to 16-18K. And then there's the exposure latitude issue, in which film is still far superior (the Red has to "cheat" using a process called HDR)

  • @CeruleanFilms unfortunately Arri, Aaton and Panavision have just ceased production of all their film cameras. - fortunately there are lots of used ones still out there

  • @b2dmastersniper bullshit.

  • @CeruleanFilms I thought I read somewhere that the new Red Epic has really good latitude. 18 stops. I'm not an expert though. I wouldn't really know.

  • Comment removed

  • It achieves that through HDR, which means that it takes multiple exposures at different levels and then combines them into a picture that is uniformly exposed within the actual range of the sensor. These images can look very unnatural and "flat" at times.

  • @CeruleanFilms This is inaccurate. 35mm is roughly 3k-4k on a negative, by the time it's in a theater you're lucky to be getting a .5k image out of it, because of all the physical duping of the negative. 65mm is about 10k-12k. This is coming from an ASC member I've discussed the issue with. They don't even make film scanner at 16-18k.

You are correct on the latitude issue and the Red One and the new Epic and Scarlet. But the Arri Alexa by far matches, if not, surpasses film in this regard.

  • @CeruleanFilms

I would say surperior- but not far superior. There are new innovations in sensors every day, while Kodak is busy shutting down it's factories that produce film. Eventually there won't be any more film and there will be sensors that are far superior to film. It is sad, but life goes on.

  • i want see dead alive in ultra hi def. please or 35mm film stock.

  • Premiere works well from what i hear. But even DSLR native footage is a pain with fcp. Not very compatible...

  • Purists need to see the bigger picture. And besides, he's not putting down film.. just stating facts. WAY TO GO RED.

  • @iCruzTv its quite common practice to run clips through another program before editing in the main suite. But its next to impossible to edit 4k raw clips on any computer let alone fcpx or premiere or avid. fcp uses proxies. - something for u to research on.

  • why the hell do ppl even care whether or not the camera's digital or film? hello?! This is Peter Jackson. Peter Jackson!!! Does it look like he hates film?

  • @darkface405 I agree with you. I haven't had the chance of even touch a RED camera, but if Peter Jackson or James Cameron are using them...so, how could I hesitate about RED quality??..they both are extremely visual filmakers so they know what is correct or better for the filmaking....I just trust them so much so I trust digital cinema and RED. I've just seen a movie in digital projection in 2K and it was wonderful...It must be much better in 4k

Sorry for my bad english...Saludos desde Chile

  • :D

  • "film is going to be superseded" You lost me at that buddy, sorry...

  • @thelatestttplague You probably said the same about film SLRs

  • Film will never be superseded and this idiot will just end up with video shot shit for all time. And his 4K/70mm comparison is laughably ignorant.

  • @nicolawicz i think you are the most ignorant fool ive met on youtube yet. - you do realize the hobbit is being shot on 30 red epics no?

  • @b2dmastersniper What's your point? And what kind of idiot needs 30 cameras to shoot a movie?

  • @nicolawicz You are really asking why peter jackson, one of the greatest directors of all time, making one of the greatest movies of all time needs 30 cameras? REALLY? - try this - 2 cameras per 3D Rig, and well more than 7 sets going at once with at least 2 camera rigs to each. Oh and not to mention he is shooting both movies at the same time.

  • @b2dmastersniper If I may add: I guess you need three synchronised cameras per rig because a third camera has to shoot the 2D material.

Furthermore they have at least two units shooting at the same time.

  • @ephi88 thats a good observation but you wouldnt actually need 3 cameras. to aquire the 2d image all you have to do is just take the footage from one of the 3d rig cameras. and instead of flashing between frames of the 2 cameras, you just use the normal footage from one.

  • @b2dmastersniper That's not right. You have to keep in mind that for the 3D content the two lenses have to be adjusted with a distance of 12 cm. Now imagine you have a take with a portrait-like distance from the camera to the actor's face. In this case a slightly shifted angle would ruin the take because what's in the middle of the picture of the two 3D lenses later combined together and watched through the glasses would significantly differ from the material shot with the single lens.

  • @ephi88 im thinking about a different rig apparently, Search Red Epic 3d atom rig and you will see why you can just take one cameras footage.

  • @b2dmastersniper Wow, I hadn't heard about that technique so far. I apologize.

  • @nicolawicz Your a fking moron...

  • @dannycurtean thats an educated response for sure

  • @dannycurtean My a fking moron? Learn to write, you prick.

  • @nicolawicz So Peter Jackson, an oscar winning Director who slowly escaped Hollywood and made huge budget movies which were very well recievd, is an idiot and an ignorat you say. His lifetime achivemets can be written on a one mile long piece of paper. I bet I can write yours on a stamp.

  • @ravenhousegaming He's a worthless Hollywood prostitute obsessed with all things digital, just like Cameron or Lucas. Pigs like these are ruining cinema. It's hard to believe this idiot directed such masterpieces as Dead Alive and Heavenly Creatures.

  • @nicolawicz Did he rape your sister or something? If not jeez get a grip.

  • @nicolawicz Ignorant? I think YOU are ignorant!!! Digital is the future of cinema!!!

  • 5:18 It's excellent when directors can take a Cinema professional camera on a trip and get sunrise shots for his motion picture, all by himself!

It's how I remember shooting most of my vids!

  • So is the Red One gonna be replaced by the Epic?

  • I admire PJ but I don't believe film will be superseded and it should always be available for those who want to shoot on it.

  • @Stlcards789 i know what you mean,, and thats exactly what they said with photography some years back. Truth is handling film is a longer process and cost alot more money. Once the digital technology gets better, film will be superseded in the movie industry.

  • @nuksfilms If somebody like Nolan or Spielberg want's to shoot film the industry won't deny them that.

  • I am currently working on my own camera company which we are planning to release a 1000k camera by 2018.

  • isnt RED Clarice not releasing to the market? tz not even in the red official web

     site.

  • @LEONINEPICTURES what you call Red Clarice is actually a Red One Camera. there used to be so few cameras around that each got their own name.

  • isnt RED Clarice not releasing to the market? tz not even in the red official web site.

  • Every time I think I'm through with RED.....they pull me back in!

  • Hey, just curious, how much $ are these RED cameras worth??

  • @letsgetfinding the red one (the only red camera so far) is 17,000 body only. to get a fully functional decent kit, ur lookin at 30-40 grand

  • @b2dmastersniper not since they put the new mysterium x chip in them. now they're 25 grand.

  • the camera that jackson is holding is $58,000 WITH THE BODY ALONE

  • @thevideodrome1 lol... no its not thats the red one, body only about 17,500. Ur thinking of the Epic M which is 58 grand. James Cameron just bought 50 of them

  • my bad i just posted before watching the video

  • It can't handle TUNGSTEN light! properly....

    yet....

  • Man i want a RED camera for some of my projects, Am not impressed with some of the HD cameras, they dont work with low-light at all. I like pete and his advise.

  • I like the way he speaks :)

  • Cool man, you rock PJ!

Btw is RED a new type of video cameras?

  • Has he lost weight? He looks to be in great shape :D

  • The coolest thing is how Jackson and Andrew Lesnie (his DP) shot The Lovely Bones on both film and digital. The decision to do both was more artistically motivated to show both world's of the film, Earth and Heaven. I think this could be a healthy marriage between film and digital; instead of getting rid of film completely, still keep it and use it to tell stories by contrasting two image types.

  • @Scorberg Actually, The Lovely Bones has plenty of digital inserts throughout, not just the in-between. The thing is a mess.

  • @nicolawicz All of the Earth sequences was shot on 35mm film. Only the in-between sequences he shot on digital.

  • @Scorberg Maybe you're too blind to see the difference, but like I said, there's digital inserts throughout (mostly extreme close-ups of fingers, shoes, etc.).

  • @nicolawicz Ok, I know what you're talking about. There are inserts from the Iconix camera of extreme closeups but you it's hard to tell at times. That's why Jackson and Lesnie decided to use it for the Earth scenes because it had an image quality that resembled film. Either way, the majority of those sequences were shot on 35 mm film.

  • @Scorberg Frankly, it looks nothing like film. It almost seems as if Jackson didn't get all the cover he needed on set and later shot those inserts at his home with his video camera.

  • @nicolawicz Well I guess it's in the eye of the individual because Jackson, Lensie and I thought it looked a little like film. What Jackson did with this camera is quite brilliant. He introduced the RED camera into the industry and I think he introduced this Iconix camera. The whole point to showing the closeups with this camera was to tell the audience what were the most valuable things to Harvey. I think it was a brilliant way of storytelling.

  • @nicolawicz And the image did look different, but that was the whole point; the audience memember, at least on a subconscious level, needed to distinquish. Another brilliant use of the camera was when Harvey is running up the stairs during the Lindsey break-in. That was a brilliant, brilliant way to capture that closeup. Not to mention that Tucci was pleased because he said that it meant a lot for himself to capture that closeup---so maybe this is a way for actors to capture their own closeups.

  • Woo first comment! I love pj :)
