  • ((Shutter)) I was done in by those more than once.

  • from the city that brought us alcoholized iced tea. XD

  • Virgin Sailors? Score.

  • Hey, Check out these dudes cover of Viva La Vida in a bar, just type in "Fiddle Me Silly" :) U'll enjoy it!

  • Dan Lynch"s, boy that brought back memories! ... We seem to be from the same generation and I recall all the places you visited, I am currently living in Florida, not in NYC anymore :( so this was a real treat, sorry it was at your expense and not so good experiences??? .... Do you keep in touch with any of those people???

  • @nybaby40 I do still have friends tha I drank with, but for the most part the people I met exclusively in bars are not in my life. Most of them weren't in my life the next day! It was quite a stagger down memory lane for me too. As you might guess, this is only about a third of the bars I went to. Time and interest considerations nixed many of the other ones. The bar I spent the most time at that was left on the cutting room floor was MiLady's on Prince Street. It's still there! Chumley's gone.

  • I'll be certain to tell my husband that you thing so. I'm Bi. That should be fairly clear.

  • lesbo

    lol

  • she seems a genuine lesbian

  • There used to be a bar called Bootles right up the street from Maxwell Plums on the opposite side of the street.

One of the greatest pick up joints in the city. I am sure it is gone now.

  • What street was that on?

  • Epic--! Hey I think I slept with that sailor too:-) I definitely want to read this book, will buy it as soon as it comes out.

  • There seemed to be a lot of sailors at the White Horse. I think it must have been marked on the nauticle charts.

  • Downtown Beirut (best bar in the universe), girlbar, whatever that one was on the southwest corner of Tompkins Square Park

  • I've been to that one on TSP. It used to be quite grim. Have you been recently?

  • nope...different time, different life

  • Too True.

  • You've got me hooked! I want to read your book!

  • I'm doing a series of essays based on some of the more memorable moments in these particular bars. Much of this is only part of the flavor of the memoir. Choices had to be made after all.

  • Hey, great video! I don't know many of these places but I sure miss NYC in the Fall...

  • It was perfect wool tweeds weather when we made the video.

  • Hey Deirdre, it appears we never would have crossed paths in our drinking days.... Glad we're on the other side, and that my favorite haunts, Night Cafe and Z-Bar, have both gone the way of the dodo!

  • It was a little eerie to see how things and places that were such a part of my life have been erased. It's not like there are fewer bars, but they are less intersting. (Certainly to me!)

  • Dook dook dook.

  • Not sure what that means, but thanks for looking at the video.

  • This is really something. I'm not sure enjoy is the right word, but it is fascinating.

  • Yes, it kind of made me a little sick when I was putting it all together.

  • This is great! Really enjoyed it, and the book sounds good, too. You're amazingly poised!

  • Thank you! I was really nervous to publish this.

  • I was more a drinker and a relationship type(even if some didn't last long) but as a blackout drinker I did wake up in strange beds sometimes and who knows who's not remembered. This is absolutely fabulous and how can you miss with the combination of sex and booze. I can't wait for the full version and it's great your doing this while most of the places are still there. I'll bet you've got some of the other old interesting bars like Chumley's in the long version.

BRAVO! Five stars all the way.

  • Chumleys is under construction, but yes it's on the cutting room floor! Along with Lions Head, Arthurs, the Monster, MiLadies, the Ear Inn, Puffys and lots of others.

  • Soooo awesome Deirdre.

  • That means a lot coming from you! Thanks for clicking over.

  • I thought this was really captivating! I am excited for the book. Pretty humorous at some points as well. Any thoughts on a series?

  • Thank you, you're the second person to suggest that more is wanted. It's flattering and I'm thinking abou it.

  • Hey - I know many of those bars though not, perhaps, in the same way you once did. Good job on the film, though.

  • Yeah. Let's hope not. I left out so many places. Thinking about them got to be a little oppressive.

  • what a wonderful video, and yes it makes you want to read the book immediately. so candid and so comfortable, watching you recount is completely engaging. YOU COULD HAVE YOUR OWN CABLE SHOW.

    just sayin

  • Now that's a thought. Could be like tweedy Robin Bird without the G-String.

  • looking for my prev. post, but it's not there!!

Just want you to know that this is very brave of you to do this...many,many people don't take responsibility for they're behavior...they just make excuses...but you faced your mistakes head-on..good role model!! can't wait for your book!

  • Thanks.

  • very brave of you to do Deidre...just waiting for the book!!!

  • For someone who was drinking all the time and picking up men, you have a great recollection of what and who you did. You obviously kept notes. Thanks for sharing it.

  • I have a list. Believe me, there are some who I simply can recall.

  • I loved it. Have the names been changed to protect the guilty?

  • Yes, some of them.

  • Great video. I always enjoy your readings and I'm looking forward to your memoir.

  • I'm looking forward to it too!

  • Very intriguing.. I can't wait for the memoir! :)

  • Thanks.

  • Not what I expected. More revealing with teasers that make me curious about the rest of the story.

  • The story is a compelling one. I hope we both get to see it in print one of these days.

  • What a compelling video! Congrats. Can't wait for the book!

  • Thank you. I feel like I'm on a wire, high above the ground looking down.

  • I admire your honesty and courage in this clip...I can't wait to read the book!

  • It's terrifying to put this up, trust me.

  • Really funny and honest! Loved it!

  • That's a lot coming from a professional.

  • Love it!

  • Hey man and you're in the business.

  • love it!

  • I know. It's even a little unreal for me.

  • What depth! Honesty! Humor! This makes me want the real meat of every one of these stories! Can't wait to read the book!

  • You'll get that and more!

  • That was wonderful, Deirdre! Hard to imagine the buttoned up person in front of the camera was such a mess. It's good to see you looking great and with a smile of serenity on your face as you describe those times.

  • I know. It's even a little unreal for me.
