What gave you the idea that the song is for homosexuals? It's really for everyone who has ever felt like an outcast because of what or who they are, at least that's how I see it. However, he DID write it because the Church snubbed him for being a homosexual, so I suppose it could be viewed that way.
About a boy who is accused to be gay and the world around him blaims him for this sin. Very true lyrics about a world full of misunderstanding and people who do not dare to try and understand which what they dont like, cause its easier to hate something then to admit that you might love it... its a sin...
Damn... I am so glad that I didnt grew up with any attached religion...
Oh, just awesome. I remember hearing this song as a toddler and, of course, meaning would be lost on me but even then I knew that the music was something else. Superb.
although i went to a public school in the 80s i remember relating to the song. Everything i did i thought would send me right downward. but now when i have a negative thought i just think "I'll drink to that"
it's really about lead singer Neil Tennant, and the hardships he suffered being brought up the strict catholic way - not an easy enviroment for a young homosexual man. it's about the shame and guilt his felt from doing and being, what he had been taught was evil and a sin, up there with the 7 deadly sins.
trying to conform to his surroundings while truggling with his feelings.
something in those lines. and it's no short of a masterpiece.
My favourite song of the 80s, definitely and undoubtedly. Great!

music is just music my friends, we create unnecessary labels , just sit back and ENJOY :)
martegod 2 years ago 5
No, it was meant for girls and women, boys and men who would want to enjoy it.

@sukruoosten
No of course not!!!
Music is for everyone, and has no sexuality.
Actually over 60% of the Pet Shop Boys fans are heterosexual...
If you even thought that ANY music is "ment for gays" then you are nothing short of an idiot!

I feel prisonsers have the right to listen to music..
We all have flaws..i feel for some who faced the consequencies of society by misfortune..or by upbringing,poverty etc..we have to be tolerant..
