Heating the fret softens the wood fibers in the end grain of the slot, (and also any glue which might be in there, )and helps the fret to come out without any tear-out. The fret puller has sharp jaws which slip under the fret crown, but they don't crimp the barbs.
arigato=gracias=thanks. I will try to pull out the frets of my cheap bass( 135 dlls ) to practice and if do it right , I may try it with my Ken Smith 5 strings ( lol , I won't of course )
does the crimping action compress the barbs to you don't tear the fretboard?
