The human being is the filthiest animal of them all. Nothing on this earth has the right to do something like this to that wolf. Only the man doesn't care if he has the right to fuck up a life for his entertainment, he just goes ahead and does it, without even thinking. I'm ashamed to be part of a race that shows such beastly and irrational behaviour. I would prefer to be the wolf on the inside of the fence, rather than to be the man on the outside, the reason for the wolf's imprisonment.
I dont think the wolf is sad. maybe its just alone. are there any others with it? wolves are social animals, they need a family just like we do. This one was most likely abandoned or bred in captivity so i don't think its dreaming of escape. But if it doesn't have a mate or pack it might be howling in hopes of a response.
That poor baby has lost its mate. They mate for life and that is the most heart shattering sound you will ever hear. It brought me to tears. I hope it passes quietly and peacefully to join its mate.

Most animals at zoo's and wildlife preservations aren't taken from the wild. Newborns get abandoned by their parents or predators kill the parents or homes are destroyed by weather/people, leaving litters all on their own. Zoo's and wildlife habitats rescue newborns and try as best they can to simulate the wild so that the animals can grow up in a similar environment. These youtube commenters give humans too little credit.
@primetizzle We're just so used to seeing cruelty that I, and others, forget that there are good people out there who do good things for these animals. And I know that once these animals (or any animal) are picked up from being abandoned, they can't be released back into the wild, for survival reasons. Thanks for the reminder and good comment.

@102anya I am an animal lover, and fight to see they have the right to live safely in the wild. But at times, human help has enable animals to stay alive and safe when they get hurt in the wild. Not all humans are animal abusers, and saying that only animals have the right to live is dead wrong! Loving animals does not mean hating humans, but rather learning how to live together.

A lot of times what happens is people will buy a wolf puppy and it grows up and becomes giant and they can no longer care for it or have the space for it, ect. So they give it up to a wolf reserve or zoo. This wolf in the video doesn't seem sad or depressed judging by its body language. A howl is wolf communication, not an indication of being upset. Wolves should be left in the wild but for those born in captivity, you can't release them back, they have no pack or hunting skills. They would die.

It's crazy to think that at the beginning of this century there were very few to NO wolves in America. Just recently have they been brought back down into the Rocky Mountains and NW region of the United States from Canada. This animal is such a symbol of all that is natural and splendid in our dwindling wilderness areas. Strange to see it in captivity, but hopefully the goal of captivity is to restore the health of said captive animals so they may go back to being wild.
that wolf needs a more exciting enclosure, and also it'd be exciting if the whole pack was together in one area. It would be awesome, if zoo keepers released wild game into their cage and let the people watch wolves as they hunt as a pack.

@FroYoPlatypus well wolves shouldnt suffer for kids to enjoy. seeing a wolf ripping apart a deer is natural. If you think your kids cant handle it then don't bring them. Wolves shouldnt be taken out of their natural habitat for kids to enjoy looking at them. I rather throw a kid in for the wolves to feed on than having kids enjoy watching the wolves suffer.

Wolves that are in zoos are there because they were either born in captivity or they are suffering in the wild. Wolves born in captivity aren't suffering because they don't know of the wild is and don't know any other life than zoo life. Wolves that are brought out of the wild and into captivity were taken their because they were injured or something else has caused them to do poorly in the wild.
@06lanevomr Sending a captive wolf into the wild is a horrible idea. It won't have a pack to support it and it won't have the survival skills it needs to survive. It would die. Captive animals don't usually do well in the wild.

Please don't try to interpret the emotions or motivations of a wild animal that you don't know - you will not do their species justice that way. Despite what it may sound like to humans or how it may be portrayed in movies, howls are simply ways to communicate and can often be very positive. Wolves howl naturally, even in the wild. Would you think a cat is sad because it meows, or a bird because it chirps? Also, you can hear another wolf answering - this one does not seem to be alone.

Sadly, this may be the only way we and the next generations will see wolves alive. Man persecutes these poor animals to no end. They get protected status just to be allowed to breed and make more wolves only to have that protection taken away and then be slaughtered. It just disgusts me and makes my heart ache for these beautiful symbols of the wild.
thats not a bad cry. It's just calling to locate the others. You can even hear them respond. Humans have long mistaken this cry as something of sorrow. Yes, the call is haunting. That still doesnt mean the wolf is sad. This particular one was probably isolated due to a skin condition that is caused by a fungus on the skin. To minimize the risk of other wolves in the pack going bald or seeing this one as sick and attacking, most good zoos would quarantine and treat the wolf.
Releasing this wolf and any wolf that's been in captivity for an extended period of time is a terrible idea, especially if what you want is for it to be happy. It'll just hang around people's homes and dig through trash, and if someone gets the bright idea to just release them into the middle of nowhere, it'll die of starvation because it never learned to hunt. I understand releasing a wild wolf in captivity, but if it's capable of living in the wild, it's probably not in captivity.
Most of you that have a problem with this video probably kennel your dogs and your dissing this? If you have a problem about captive animals then don't go to the zoo. You know whats in there. And while your at it, let your dogs, cats, birds and fish back into the wild. Let your horses run free, let your cattle out of the corral and let them go. Captivity age's them far more quickly than in the wild, walking that cage day after day group's of stupid people looking at him every day, now you know why that one day when an individual enter's the cage to feed him or any other animal they are attacked. @102anya I am an animal lover, and fight to see they have the right to live safely in the wild. But at times, human help has enable animals to stay alive and safe when they get hurt in the wild. Not all humans are animal abusers, and saying that only animals have the right to live is dead wrong! Loving animals does not mean hating humans, but rather learning how to live together.

A lot of times what happens is people will buy a wolf puppy and it grows up and becomes giant and they can no longer care for it or have the space for it, ect. So they give it up to a wolf reserve or zoo. This wolf in the video doesn't seem sad or depressed judging by its body language. A howl is wolf communication, not an indication of being upset. Wolves should be left in the wild but for those born in captivity, you can't release them back, they have no pack or hunting skills. They would die.

It's crazy to think that at the beginning of this century there were very few to NO wolves in America. Just recently have they been brought back down into the Rocky Mountains and NW region of the United States from Canada. This animal is such a symbol of all that is natural and splendid in our dwindling wilderness areas. Strange to see it in captivity, but hopefully the goal of captivity is to restore the health of said captive animals so they may go back to being wild.

that wolf needs a more exciting enclosure, and also it'd be exciting if the whole pack was together in one area. It would be awesome, if zoo keepers released wild game into their cage and let the people watch wolves as they hunt as a pack.

Wolves that are in zoos are there because they were either born in captivity or they are suffering in the wild. Wolves born in captivity aren't suffering because they don't know of the wild is and don't know any other life than zoo life. Wolves that are brought out of the wild and into captivity were taken their because they were injured or something else has caused them to do poorly in the wild.

this is not the cry of a wolf that is being held captive. wolves have many different howls. a wolf only howls like this when it's separated from it's pack. that is the howl it uses in hope that it's pack will find it but now it has just become sad and desperate. you can just hear it in it's voice.

She runs loose every day for hours at the dog park. Yes, wolves are pack animals, so are dogs. We can see it at the dog park. My girl seems very happy and spends very little time in the house.

Please don't try to interpret the emotions or motivations of a wild animal that you don't know - you will not do their species justice that way. Despite what it may sound like to humans or how it may be portrayed in movies, howls are simply ways to communicate and can often be very positive. Wolves howl naturally, even in the wild. Would you think a cat is sad because it meows, or a bird because it chirps? Also, you can hear another wolf answering - this one does not seem to be alone.

thats not a bad cry. It's just calling to locate the others. You can even hear them respond. Humans have long mistaken this cry as something of sorrow. Yes, the call is haunting. That still doesnt mean the wolf is sad. This particular one was probably isolated due to a skin condition that is caused by a fungus on the skin. To minimize the risk of other wolves in the pack going bald or seeing this one as sick and attacking, most good zoos would quarantine and treat the wolf.

Releasing this wolf and any wolf that's been in captivity for an extended period of time is a terrible idea, especially if what you want is for it to be happy. It'll just hang around people's homes and dig through trash, and if someone gets the bright idea to just release them into the middle of nowhere, it'll die of starvation because it never learned to hunt. I understand releasing a wild wolf in captivity, but if it's capable of living in the wild, it's probably not in captivity.

It makes me sick and I think it zoos should be illegal.Animals are not supposed to be caged up for our amusement, they're supposed to be out in nature. I am white but we are the most sickening race. American Indians are by far the best. I love the fact that they cared so deeply about animals that they would only kill one if they had to and they actually respected them.

Captivity age's them far more quickly than in the wild, walking that cage day after day group's of stupid people looking at him every day, now you know why that one day when an individual enter's the cage to feed him or any other animal they are attacked.
