Arena was never used in combat, and isn't exactly operational. Also, arena has a much higher chance of collateral damage if a soldier stands next to a tank.

Funny. In 2003 we rolled up guys in Al Duluyah who asked us if we had force fields around our vehicles. We, just messing with them, said, "Yes." Truth was, their gear sucked. They sucked. Most of the RPG's they shot at us were crap and didn't detonate because they was old, defective or they didn't know how to use them.

Now, do have force fields, in a sense.

@siamfd201 The Trophy was not in use in 2006, it became operational only about 5 months ago. it is now built on a Battalion of Merkava 4s on the border with Gaza. Two RPGs were fired at that Battalion in the past month, in both cases the Trophy shot them down. Meanwhile a clean 100% record of sucsess in the feild.

Whats to stop Russians from developing a stealth projectile RPG or some jamming RPG which blinds the APS so it can be hit by normal RPGs? Seems like an arms race but it always ends up favoring the attacker.. Actually the US will probably develop the counter first..

The Trophy system is fully operational since 2009, although it do has some difficulties , There is also the Iron Fist system which only turn operational in about 2011. Rafael (developers of Trophy) and taas(IMI) the developers of Iron First are planning to combine this two systems into creating the ultimate APS

There are many speculations about that. Of course, the Trophy is not the first developed but I'm not sure that Arena is operational or in massive use anywhere. Neither Drozd, Zaslon, Iron Fist and so on.

@uriav To your year old comment. Arena has been in use in Chechnya from what I heard and Drozd was equipped on nearly all Soviet Naval Infantry T-55s in Afghanistan but then later removed from service after high collateral damage.

На данный момент на вооружении только "Трофи". Если говорить о наиболее продвинутой системе, то это "Iron fist". Его сейчас пытаются объединить с "Трофи" (предприятия-разработчики слились, так что вполне возложно, что-то общее выйдет). Хорошая система активной защиты у корейской "Черной пантеры", сделана совместно с американцами. Но очень уж дорогая.

And so many countries to create weapons that bypass the active protection .... We have such kind has already been created. At the moment this is not a system you can rely on, the appropriate protection of armored vehicles it does not provide. In the future, will create more advanced APS.

@ATMirror The russian ARENA protection system is not as effective as the trophy because is alot more provabilities that the rocket hit the tank and it doesnt protect it against tank heat rounds, MINES, unguided rockets and even the jevaline can by pass the arena system because it has a two stage tracking. THE trophy protects it from EVERYTHING, mines, heat rounds, unguided rockets WELL anything that goes boom against the tank. OKAY thank you

The Namer was created for maximum survivability , all it firepower safely placed inside and ready to be deployed in seconds . 9 heavily armed infantrymen are much more valuable on ME battlefields than heavy tank. Besides Namer equipped with APS and Samson RCWS which can carry auto cannon 20-40 mm or up to 1.5 ton.

@Mifodiy35 I know that Israel prefers the vehicle because of it's survivability, I also know that Israel has a lot of use for being able to transport 9 infantry. No other army does however, not at that weight.

You will see that no other army will copy the concept. No other army wants a 60 tonne vehicle with so little firepower.

What is so good about copying ? It was never the aim of Israelis , the first and foremost priority is to save soldiers lives , simply because Israel does not have human resources to sustain heavy losses .

However this machine can save many lives and it's weight ,size , maneuverability and speed have no importance for IDF . Why would you need small ,lightly protected car in mountains and urban areas ? There are virtually no benefits from it .
