Oh the shame. I was the dick in the seat. I turned up to Elstree having asked to be made up as an old man reading a storybook. They said "we can put some talcum powder in your hair to make you look old" to which I said "No, I'll just look like a dick with talcum powder in my hair", Hence I'm wearing what I turned up in.This was the second of 2 performances and I have no idea why I have a "we want Rob Curling" sticker on. I probably thought I was being hilarious. I was a dick.
@TheFederalDrugs .............lol, hats off to you mate if you really are the dude in the old grandpa chair.....something to show the grandkids and make them laugh in the future.....good man !!
If only people knew how important this track was for Mark Pritchard to get some money to buy enough kit to make the Reload album! He has gone on to be one of the most innovative producers out there. From Harmonic 313, to Africa High-tek. Check out Warp records his music is all over there. Well done Mark you deserve serious recogntion and this track was cool back in the day - we loved it!
@kirstyhawkshaw Yes, I agree. This track is a corker, as was the follow-up, 'Monkey'. There is an even better TOTP performance of this: type in 'Digital, Running Out Of Time'. This track (also awesome) comes on first though. Such elan and unique dance music! Incidentally, Kirsty Hawkshaw is THE world's most beautiful vocalist EVER!
@disinterestful Totally agree. Monkey was an absolute classic and should have been huge. Also re Kirsty... LOVED the Mind Fruit album especially. Still play it loads.
@JonMcElectro At this time Rob Curling was the presenter of the BBC regional news programme 'Newsroom South East' - which came from the same studio complex as TOTP - and also hosted the quiz show 'Turnabout'.
Rosie - hope you dont mind but man your mum was hot! Seems surreal now to think shes a mum and your probably as old now as I was then! Never knew her but tell her thanks for the memories and hope she (and you) are both doing well - take care x
Shaft were resident at 'Madison's, a Kev club in Crewkerne, the Ewing trainer wearing clique took it over but the only quality nite i recall was when Mikey B and Eric Powell came down in May '92. Mikey B ran the show! Wicked
Its a cool video to see all the fashions etc. We had a show called "Countdown" like this show in Oz, but it wasn't dance music oriented like I believe Top Of The Pops seems to have been. Damn, we missed out again!! Great post:)
yes let's all agree wwe went through a very mysterious phase in 91/92- i include "sesame's Treet" "a trip to trumpton" "supermarioland" "charley" and this song as evidence. I remember thinking at the time that it was all quite quite rubbish!
OMG - I remember this like it was yesterday - even have this performance buried on VHS somewhere! Indeed this was the 2nd (Jan '92)of two performances they did on the show, the 1st being Dec '91 which was an even worse performance due to the girl trying to sing in falsetto...She had toned down her voice for this performance....At the time TOTP had a strict no miming policy which created havoc for the abundance of house/dance acts that were in the charts at the time.
Wow talk abut memories... As this started I had a flash back of some dick sat in an arm-chair and then he came on!! I saw this when it was aired. OMG. So sh!t it's great!
look at the audience back then much skinnier , not like the macdonald`s fatties we have today.

@JasonC1782 Oops! Wasn't paying attention to that. Says Vocals by Richard Easter on the Single. That's why I thought it was him on stage.
JonMcElectro 11 months ago
@JonMcElectro Oh no, I wasn't saying it wasn't him, I was just wondering why he had that message on his top, that's all.

top of the pops wasn't dance oriented. it's just the UK charts have consisted of a lot of dance music at times, especially in the 90s
ZoanthropicParanoia7 2 years ago
Please add James Brown is Still Alive to that list. What the heck was that about?
I remember hearing R&C out numerous times in its day but never since. Check my posting of a rather more cruisy and stylish remix of it.
