  • @nptrock i did not know hiphop was big back then in UK..

  • @italianoval yeh ...it came over here in UK bout early 83 time...by 85 everybody was big into the movement!!

  • @italianoval

It was big from 81" let alone 85'. massive in the UK it was, mainly thanks to Malclolm Maclaren and the World Famous Supreme Team, Buffalo Girls, that video brought hip hop to the uk and the rest of the world...

  • OL' SKOOL QUEST

  • name for the first song please?!!!!!!!!!!! its awasome movie ....

  • i miss old school times !

  • Man this is as lame as NYSNC

  • People who want this can google: "Electro_Rock_1985-VHSRip-MPEG.mpg"

  • please title music!!! I search long time :(

  • they never released the electro rock intro song. it was made by "automation and family quest" but never released on vinyl:-(((

  • why is it so hard to listen to a redording of mike allens national fresh ???

who remembers the national fresh frontline chart? or the new york juice report ??

this is for a fan......... a dedication. bring back national fresh for 1 more show.

    mike allen is a legend...

    Hold It Now...Hit It.

  • Mike Allen was a strange choice, and after his show ended he went to talk about gardening and stuff on LBC. I don't think he should have attempted his 'cut-ups' either, they were useless. But his show was very important in putting hip hop on the 80's map, so respect is due. By the way, I have maybe 30 of his shows on tape, including the amazing live Word of Mouth and DJ Cheese set.

  • Is Goldie (and the B-Boys crew) in this? I can't remember and there is a guy who appears for a quick shot who looks like him.

And who was the dj at the end (not Mike).

  • that graf at the beginning is so dope

  • Mike Allen is a legend!!

  • this is super rare!! damn where can i find a copy?

  • This is BIG!!! Only a toddler when this hit and makes Hip Hop of now silly but only a few guys can carry it. The Thriller times, lol.

  • This makes me CRAZY!!! I feel so much energy..

I see art...moving and passion flowing..I love this ish FOREVER!!

  • To Dreadnet:

Westwood used to be ok up until about 10 years ago. And whatever you say Mike Allen had and still has to this day a much cooler natural voice and presence. He also does not pretend to be black. Who gives a shit if he was meant to be a "pop" DJ he still rocked the National Fresh show and made it better than any other show. What does that say about Tim?

  • i got some of this video on tape, hey there is loose bruce a cool dud..

  • hi! I search music 00:00 - 01:30. Please name music!!! :)

  • Big up to wolverhampton bboy GUNSMOKE BREAKOUT...my fravourite...!

"Check the 1 in red its a girlllll!"

    hahaha

  • poppin -locking-Break beats for all.

when i hear this style of hip hop i go in pop mode.

Im a rock n roller now but in my younger day this music was ace.

  • Unfortunately, real Hip hop has never really been "Pop", unlike that Gangsta Rap bollocks. Here's some proper Hip hop vids you might be interested in: The Goats - Dig Dug Ugly Duckling - Smack Jedi Mind Tricks - Uncommon Valor Immortal Technique - Fourth Branch Blue Scholars - Ultramagnetic MCs - Poppa Large Lords of the Underground - Funky Child The Coup - Fat Cats Bigga Fish WC and the Maad Circle - Ain't a damn thang changed Charizma and peanut butter wolf - red light green light
  • ahahahahah

  • i must say was that last comment written by westwood lol!

  • im adding this to my favorites list i tell you

  • what makes me laugh is imagining those two 'dancing' at 1:05 of this clip doing this now in a club for like an hour solid. with those hats on too.

i would love to see that shit

  • instea of the fick i meant FUCK THE MOTHER LAND UK PUNKS

  • Hmmm, learn something new every day. Would be cool if someone did like an all international history of hip hop culture and music development. Only seen parts and bits from US, South America, Japan, and some European countries. Seen none from Canada, Africa, Middle East, or wherever it may have developed. Were Eskimos break dancing on ice in their igloos ? lol.

  • P.S. Please put any of Mikes Radio shows (TDK ads and all) on bearshare or something. I have MP3ed what little I have got and will upload soon.

  • A big shout out to THE Hip Hop legend himself in the UK : MIKE ALLEN.

And yes Mike Allen's National Fresh was and will always be the best Hip Hop radio show ever. Take note westwood you dont have to pretend you are black to be cool.

  • I must say that Mike Allen was a POP MUSIC dj not a Hip Hop Dj he was lucky to be given that show on Capital Radio to Rival Tim Westwood, who was the original UK Hip Hop Dj on L.W.R maybe two or three years before Mike Allen.

    That's the Truth Ruth!

  • ive got electro rock!!! message me if you want it. :)

  • yes i want electro how could you give iti to me pls!

  • what's yahoo messenger id we can talk there do you have one?...bobo

  • Yes PLEASE!!!!

  • Does anyone know what the name of this film is? I'm desperate to get my hands on a copy.

  • Electro Rock is the title. You might also want to check out similar themed films such as Wild Style, Crush Groove and Breakin'.

  • I visited the UK in '85 with my brother with intentions of seeing the Hip Hop scene out there but missed most of this. Thanks for bringing it back & to the world!

  • Mike Allen "National Fresh" yep, yep

  • I discovered Hip Hop through National Fressshhhhh!!! (With the TDK adverts and everything!!!) Hey mate, do you have the full video? Would love to get a copy!

  • OMG that bought back some memories, whats the name of the mc right at the very end of the clip who says"welcome to the Hippodrome", is it the same guy who used to do "National Fresh " on Radio ! years ago ?

  • hotness, reminds me of Crush Groove and Wild Style

  • the whole event is uploaded! :)

  • broken glass

  • did someone mention Sipho RIP ? Damn!!!! How, When ???

Sipho was part of London Posse with Rodney 'BBC's 1Xtra' P

I also read about the original bad boy hip hop DJ from the UK 'Cosmic Jam' passing wtf!!! I knew all these guy's circa 1983 - 1986 first generation UK Hip Hop crew's. Electro Rock was released in 1985-1986.

  • rodney or should that be rodie roc told a mate of mine about 2yrs ago that he had died..forget how

  • crikey,,, sipho that was it. Him and darnell were always togthere down spats. I have a clip of spats somewhere and he's in it for a bit there too.

And I remember cosmic jam well. I did a deal with him for the telephone break ... lol. He drove a hard bargin. Damms hame that he dies young if that's true. Nicest guy though was cutmaster swift. I used to go to his house in battersea and swap breaks. He was a half decent breaker as well before he got seriously into mixing (crush crew).

  • he is buried in a place called inch near kerry in the south of ireland where his mum is from

  • Brilliant memories. And Darnel ! Used to see him up at spats every saturday, best popper ever.... such an amazing style.

  • Yeah Darnel one of the early greats! do you remember the name of his poppin partner? You can see them practicing in the dressing room. I know the sirname is Liverpool cos I know his older brother John

  • his partner is Basil liverpool :)

  • yep, that was Basil

I had a battle with him in Waterloo staion once after the gig at Jubilee Gardens that Westwood organised. We lost ! But we won on breaking as my mate was in 'Live to Break' and one of the best at the time.

  • Wicked! I was at Jubilee Gardens. Did you go to the rap convention organized by Westwood back in the day? It was a competition to find the best rappers in England. I remember Cookie crew, The Dynamic 3 (my crew) and the wild bunch who (i think) became portis head, tricky or massive attack (don't quote me as I could be totally wrong about that!). Anyways, The Cookie crew came first and we came second. The first prize was a recording deal with Kool Ghoul label/ Ricki (rock rock) Rennolds.

  • @jefjays I've just put up a radio advert for the 1985 rap convention at the Wag Club..and on a 'smart ass' tip Wild Bunch became Massive Attack

  • I'm assuming it's a copy, but I can live with that. I've bought it and can't wait to watch it. Thanks for letting me know about it's existence.

  • Cool :)

  • An original .. or just a copy?

  • Managed to find it on DVD on ebay!

  • Never released on DVD ... and almost impossible to find on an original VHS tape.

  • Wow, never seen it before. Looks like the UK's answer to Beat Street, Wild Syle, Breakdance. I want it!! Is it available on DVD?

  • i got this on vhs! one bad ass video-nuff respect LOOK TWICE still the baddeast poppers i have EVER seen. RIP Sipho the human beatbox
