How crazy. I just went to see duarte, it's been ten years since I last saw him and I was going to ask if you were going to do any duarte lessons. Thank anthony!
Another discovery I made, that was somewhat encouraging, was that I wasn't alone. I have listened to a few top name guitarists attempting to play blues. Although they were tops in their field they just couldn't execute the licks in a bluesy way. They, like me, hadn't learned the importance of spaces eg. though many of the licks were almost the same.
It's been quite an education for me as I'm sure it has been for others too.
I'm also a pro teacher. I have taught on & off for a good few years.
What I want to say is that I have found your lessons to be a wealth of really interesting info. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning some of the blues licks etc you have taught.
So keep up the good work, you are making an awful lot of people happy.
Hi Anthony! It may interest you to know I've been playing guitar for 40+ years (there I go giving away my age) I grew up with classic rock & blues though tended to play more in the rock genre. Over the past couple of years I've gravitated more towrds blues playing. I have had to learn to veer away from the fast harsh rock type licks & learn to back of a bit & make my guitar 'talk.' It's quite humbling to admit it but I realised that though I thought I did, I didn't really know how to play blues.
Thanks for this Anthony, I've been lucky enough to see Duarte many times, love his playing. Would be great if you get the chance to break down a few more songs. My Way Down maybe? Thanks for the great lesson!
@gr8bluesgtr Hey Anthony I noticed that you're holding your pick kind of sideways, with the pointed part not hitting the strings. Is there any reason for this?
@squ51 Started doing it because Stevie did, but eventually I realized that the fatter curve gets caught up in the strings less when picking really fast.
ive been playing for 35 years and this guy is truely a great teacher.

@squ51 he holds it upside-down. according to what i remember he said "i felt the pick graze the strings and never looked back"
i agree it's much better sound, and i too haven't gone back since switching

@squ51
if you change the angle of the pick it will effect the attack & tone. So I guess that is the reason or what the person below me said.
CypherThanatos 6 months ago
@squ51 It makes your attack smoother, and a more rounded tone, I do it because the strings don't snap back at me like rubber bands when I strum.
