i dont really understand how it fits into the breifcase. i see him put it in the breifcase but when goes home to take it out the wooden frame is on the painting...
that's because it doesn't make sense. the painting is the size of the briefcase opened out. and it IS in a wooden frame. I think they just hope you won't notice.
iMDb said about the breaking of the painting was in the original script. "The film originally showed Crown breaking the backing of the Claude Monet painting in order to fit it into his briefcase. John McTiernan later decided that audiences might be put off if they saw him in some way damage the painting, so he edited the scene so that it only showed Crown putting the folded painting into his briefcase, and figured most people wouldn't catch on" I catched on and so did you.
@trickmastermonkey I'm usually very much critical of a lot of remakes and reboots, particularly with the recent reboot, of my hero James Bond, into that twat Daniel Craig, but i do think this film is an improvement over the original. It seems more slick and the fact that crown is physically involved in the heist rather than just planning it, makes it more exciting and adds more to the character as a thrill seeker.
Is it just me, or did the first scene featuring the Russian thieves have some resemblance to the beginning of the CoD: MW2 mission No Russian? In this movie, the leader says "Let's stick to English from here, okay?" and in MW2 Makarov says: "Remember, no Russian".
yous 2 are dickheads. once he pulls the painting out of the frame there is only a thin wooden frame that the canvas is tacked to. once he puts it in the briefcase you see the felt liner that goes in between the painting surfaces then he breaks the wood backing as he shuts it and closes it all up. not the most ideal way to do it but if you wanna steal it!
@iDraw3G in the director commentary, he said they had an elaborate way of cutting out the frame to take the canvas only but it didn't go well with the test audience so they nixed it

@iDraw3G No, the painting is painted on canvas which is stretched across a wooden frame. The wooden frame may have been broken, but the painting itself which is on canvas is fine. The wooden frame can easily be remade, the painting not so much..

@gmcclelland007 indeed, perhaps no other actor would've been better assigned for this role other than good ol' Pierce Brosnan.

Sorry, but did he break the painting in order to get it to fit in the breifcase?
iDraw3G 2 years ago 7
He's not supposed to, but we all know that don't breaking the painting in order to put it into the briefcase is impossible.

@iDraw3G He didn't brake it, he bent it.

@iDraw3G the painting itself is a canvas, so it can be fold, he put the frame of it, and then .. yes (becuz its canvas) he can fold it

@iDraw3G you're not really breaking a canvas painting. any minor damage might be worth it to steal it.

@iDraw3G he just bent the painting see paintings are made on a special kind of cardboard thingy which lasts thru the ages
