I went here for 2 weeks and I don't know why but I didn't enjoy it as much as I should or. Now that I'm back in Australia I'm starting to miss the place. I might actually to back in a few years now when I'm older to see how it's changed.
I been in vietnam in NOV 2010 for 2 weeks, I love the poeple and country but I just hated the traffic . I couldnt cross the streets because there is no traffic lights, its crazy how poeple live in such chaotic streets with millions of motobikes, I urge the vietnamese government to enforce the traffic lights upon its citizens....this in not right
@hassanwingate It's really easy, and quite safe. Like I said just step out, and walk slowly, and people drive around you. I drove a motorcycle and it was fine, like being in a school of fish. One trick is to use slow moving vehicles to block.
@TangTuyetMinh Troi chu co lon ko do. Bai tho nay tui co doc wa rui. Day la tho cua Cu Quoc truong Nguyen Khanh do. Ong To Huu dau co lam tho te dzay dau chu.
OH yeah baby! Coolest thing I've seen a while, and do I watch vids on youtube. It is just pathetic to see how in the US they stop all the f*cking traffic so that the kids (bigger than this one) can just get off the freaking school bus.... way to go american system; very effective way of making those kids so street smart NOT.
Oh yeah baby!! That rules!! How pathetic to see how in the US they stop all the f*cking traffic so that kids will just get off the freaking school bus; that only makes them so NOT street smart. Way to go american system, LOL.
Yes, a normal day in Saigon. The thing you must understand is that although there's a ton of trafic, it moves slowly enough for motorists to see all that's happening, and react in plenty of time to avoid most accidents. Even in an accident, most Vietnamese are calm, and deal rationally with the situation, unlike us Americans.
lol. I used to do the same thing. Crossing the streets with bunch of bikes moving toward me. But since i moved to the US and looked back, i swear that i would never ever do that even just 1 more feaking time.
now I don't feel so bad stuck in traffic here in Cali... but it's still sucks eventhough it's the safer compare to all other countries in this world... as known for now.
You know, I'm vietnamese... It's not like everyone goes crazy like that. Some do, some don't... Like me... i live in America for 8 years, so I'm different. ^__^
Anyway... I admit that Vietnam traffic it's like.... something can't describe. Oh.. and a boy in white shirt is a student. Only student study Vietnamese school act like that. Internation School in Vietnam, the students are really nice ^__^
Can you imagine almost 8 mil. people in an area about 810 sq. mile all driving cars? It's not possible. You will never make it out of your street because all streets will be packed with cars bumper to bumper. Thats why people ride scooters around. It is also not as bad people think. Just don't make abrupt movements while riding & you will be fine. Enjoy the liveliness of the City, the great food, & the wonderful people. You will see how hospitable & unpretentious the Vietnamese people are.
they watch out for each other. that's how it works. I've driven these motorbikes many times in Saigon and I can tell you, it's fun. at first I thought like many westerners, but after a few months, it's normal.
yes, I'm living in Ho Chi Minh city, unless there're some mad drivers, if normal you can walk slowly and will be ok! Drive too.
Any way, I hate vietnamese traffic, I hate the roads here, traffic jam happens every day, and very serious, how lucky I'm living in the surburb (huh is this the right word?, I want to mean far from the center), if you work in the city, 100% you will meet traffic jam every day, it should take you from 30 mins to 2 hours a day, according to your distance
It's funny because I've driven there, it's way easier than you think. Crossing the street too, you just step out slowly and people go around you. It's very organic, when you're in it.
@redhatlinux06 Not true, the true test would be to add snow or try making most of what they drive have four-wheel full size cars. Scooters are easier to drive than bicycles.
impressive CROSSING...i love the traffic...I love the people...most of them din obey any traffic rules. i wonder what r the traffic lights and police are doing? most of them are driving with no LICENSE no Helmets Under Age and more traffic Violation...
at present, saigon is 95% motorcycles, 5% cars. considering the growth rate, in a few years, the pendulum will swing the other way. just imagine how crazy traffic will be with cars dominating the streets of saigon. yikes!

@hassanwingate Vietnam's doing fine like this. Plenty of people walk, and there's rarely any accidents.
See, in America there's plenty of accident's and people 'speeding through red lights and crashing'.
Yet here, no lights, and people do just fine :P
