Hey EMHO3 - You got that backwards! I've seen The Geils Band 6-times ('74-'83), and they warm-up for NOBODY (including the Stones @ MSG in '82)! Peter Frampton warmed-up for Geils in '75-'76, and later added George and the Destroyers to the warm-up mix!
And that was a good question by the person from Boston about the 2010 performance; where was Stevie Jo? He is the most outgoing of them all, and I recall shouting "Chimes" to him at a San Fran performance in '82, which he acknowledged (point
Man - I just got chills watching this vid - THE GREATEST LIVE BAND EVER !!! Growing up near Detroit we had a love affair with them that was unstoppable - just blows me away - thanx for sharing this with us funkjudgeUK !
@johnnydontdoit ..From what I know Stephen has retired from the music biz. I also recall from the Geils split in the 80's that he was really ticked at Peter about how things went down. I suspect that there is no love lost between Stephen and Peter. For the record I am a dire hard Geils fan since 1974 so it pains me to say this but I believe it is true.
Saw at Okland Coliesum June 1976 Day on the Green #4 along with Jeff Beck, Blue Oyster Cult, Mohogney Rush, & Sammy Hager. Peter Frampton showed up unannouced and sat in. Ball Players later said they found pot plants growing in center field.
Such a freaking great party band! Peter Wolf--now there's real rock star. And they were an important bridge band too. Lot of kids (like me) had never heard of Otis Redding or Sam and Dave. But J. Geils gave us an education! Man I had so much fun seeing them at Cobo Hall. Magic Dick on harp. My first sip from a 40 ouncer. Ahhhh!!!!!!
give it too me ! seen them open for the rolling stones at jfk phila !with L Y N Y R D ~SKYNYRD~ THEY BLEW THE ROLLING~STONE'S OFF THE STAGE! J GILE'S EOCK'S MY BEST LP!? BLOW YOU'RE FACE OUT !LIVE/NIGNTMAIRE'S !BEST
@loverofthebigt9 I was at the JFK concert.. when Frampton came on 3/4 of the place left... J Geils is and always will be one of the best bands Live.. Loved seeing them at the Spectrum every time they came to town, They loved Philly and we loved them.. Hey at least we got to see the Real Skynyrd.... I saw Led Zeppelin the night before at Madison Square Garden.. Hows that for 24 hrs of rocking : )
I saw them at Providence College in February 1980. Peter Wolf made the announcement " . I have a score from Lake Placid, Soviet Union 3, United States ...................4! The place went nuts and they launched into this song.
The group all the other rock stars went to see..an unforgettable part of the best decade for music ever, the 70's! These guys could fuse any type of music together and then put on one hell of a show
Pine Knob--- Sittting out on the lake behind it. Tied up with a bunch of other pontoon boats listening to them all night. Partying, Dancing! THAT was real summertime in Michigan!
Saw Peter back in on New Years Day '95 @ the Agora here in Cleveland and I'm pretty sure he drank the bar dry that night, but the man still had it and I'm glad I was there. Very popular here in the flat lands.
Me too! @ Mohegan Sun! I am bouncing off the walls right now going crazy.."I just can't wait"!!! Only my 2nd time seeing these guys, 1st time was earlier this year @ The House of Blues in Boston! Best show EVER! Hope you have a great time! Great taste!
When people, especially younger people, ask about my favorite concerts, these guys are always in the top three. I usually have to explain who they were. Saw them at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, probably early 80's.
Damn!!! J.Geils is, was and always will be the band to "Blow your face out" :)
Bands coming up need to study these guys cuz it's pure genius and talent ( so much f*ckin' talent ). Being from Detroit we idolize these guys. Damn are they awesome !
saw them during the Blow Your Face Out tour at Detroit's Cobo hall. On the way home, a local station played the new album from start to finish. I was driving a 73 Ford LTD with mindblower speakers in the back and it was like hearing the concert all over again. Oh yeah, we were stoned on acid too.
Man I had Monkey island and that one, beside Blood shot was their absolute best lost em all in the fire sadly anybody got the long version of give it to me off the album and some Monkey island?
Springsteen Smeeingsteen - The J. Geils Band had that brand of "White Urban Funk" sewn up tight - during the same years as the E. Street Band! This is off the hook. They deserve more credit - Rock and Roll hall of Fame please. Dick Manitoba of the Dictators told me he saw them with the MC5 once.
This video is absolutely AWESOME. Energy crisis? What energy crisis. Hook up all outlets to the Geils band, we'll never need another watt of electricity. It's a shame that human's have to go, cause they should live forever.
Again I'll say it.... the best 3 minutes in rock n' roll. D.K. kills the bass, the Embassador of Funk, The Ase of Bass.........and J. Geils is unmatched in his jam. Could listen to a continuous loup of this song until I die. Stephen Jo....the baddest man to ever hit a drum....
Ladies & Gentlemen. THE J.GEILS BAND. A good time was guarenteed for all. Saw them live at least 10 times. One of the hardest working rock & roll bands of their time. They never ceased to amaze you when you saw them live. I would definitely go see them again if they do a reunion tour and play in Cleveland,Ohio.
Woofa Goofa Mama Toofa. They gonna blow your face out.
They are doing their FIRST, and maybe only one in awhile, REUNION show this THURSDAY February 19 at the BRAND NEW House of Blues in Boston Massachusetts (my hometown)! What GREATER band to OPEN the brand new House of Blues than The J. Geils Band!?!? NOBODY!
this is great!! thanks! for those who are too young to remember bands from the 70's....this is how it's done. Those things they are holding are called instruments. you used to have to play at least one fairly well to make music. How fun these guys were in concert. Nobody needed a seat.
Oh, my goodness! Wow, couldn't find anything like this on Youtube a couple of months ago! My favorite 70's Band. Seeing this makes me feel 15 again, boogeying at a J. For me the songs begins after time 1:57. This could have made a great instrumental song -- no lyrics like "Frankenstein."

They take if from a reggae to an amped up funk to just jammin' .
How often do you see the keyboardist join the drummer for a drum duet???
Went to elementary and jr. high with Seth Justman - the aforementioned keyboardist.
elbinkogrande 2 years ago 11
One of the great party tunes of all time.
Note the way they transition from a modified reggae to amplified funk.
Saw them open for Van Morrison in 1970 at Symphony Hall Boston. Stole the show.
Of course, they were the local heroes.
