Leslie was a great bloke. I knew him quite well. He always replied to my letters. He came and spoke to the kids at a youth club I helped run and he often sent me tickets for Crackerjack. FYO he had not been drinking when his car crashed.
He used to look down his nose at Phil Linnott, who gave his daughter something to eat, and it wasn't Christmas pudding either. The Roller's no good to him now, is it.
Fair point elofan... that was really grim. Still think the man was one of a kind though, we used to record 'the price is right' (aka 'come on down yer fat bastard...') and watch it on vhs after a couple of bongs; uproariously funny watching him looking absolutely appalled at the low life contestants. R.I.P. Les, that's what happens when you drive home pissed...
I wrote to Leslie in 1996 shortly before he died and I've still got the letters he sent back to me, and the signed photo - I was 18 at the time - It was so sad when he died I grew up watching him Saturday nights, first with The Price is Right and later Stars in Their Eyes! RIP Les!
he was my grandpa

I adored Leslie when I was a little girl. He seemed like such a lovely, friendly man. I was only 11 when he died and I was so sad :-(

I also think Leslie was a genius but I have to disagree with him that 'every one eats Christmas pudding'. It gives me loose bowels for days.
Leslie's accents are a sheer joy (except his Aussie one). I love him more than words can say.
