  • RIP Mr Knittle 1925-2009

  • great im in tears

  • This was supposed to be a duet between Fred Knittle (the guy singing here) and Joe Benoit, but just 2 days before show time, Joe unexpectedly died, which makes this performance even that much more heartbreaking. If you enjoy this video, I recommend gettign the whole documentary/film from Amazon or somewhere.

  • wow i cried like a little baby this is a great song its so good!!!

  • I never paid attention to anything by Coldplay until I heard this. I went back to the original, and this, IMHO, is better.

  • This version always has me bawling like a baby.

  • I keep coming back to listen to this song... I find it even more beautiful than the original.

  • Peace be with Fred's family--his beautiful voice brought me joy--

  • me ase temblar este documental :(

  • this still makes me cry.

  • Todo mundo deveria ver essa maravilha...

isso não é apenas uma canção e sim uma

    inspiração a vida!!!!!

    Deus os abenções!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • RIP Fred. May God be with your family.

  • this is actually really sad.

    RIP Fred.

  • Rest in Peace Fred. Thanks for sharing your hearts song

  • Blessings on your journey Fred. You touched by heart xxx RIP

  • R.I.P Fred

  • rip

  • RIP Fred, you made me cry in the theatre...great stuff...see ya in heaven and say hello to Al Meyer...he'll be singing w/ you as he went there a few days before you and he LOVED to sing:)

  • What a beautiful, powerful voice! Such a touching performance too, I always cry when I watch this. ... So thankful that this was caught on tape :)

RIP Fred, thanks for the wonderful music

  • May he rest in peace. What a beautiful man. I cry every time I see this video, but now I'm crying even harder. I'm going to miss this wonderful guy and his chorus.

  • Tears of sadness but tears of joy of a life lived to the full - Fred and Y@H fixed me and can only give hope to us all. Blessings and love xxxxx RIP

  • As the song says, the world has lost something that it can never replace. I was lucky enough to see Fred in both the Y@H movie and live in concert. He had lived an amazing life, dedicating himself to the country and his community. His strong optimism and humor, even when he was sick, is something that i'll always remember. Fred was a big guy with an even bigger personality and an even bigger heart. R.I.P. FRED!

  • RIP Fred - lights will guide you home ♥

  • What a wonderful man. He will certainly be missed by more than anyone will know

  • wish I could have "fixed" you Fred. You gave that song a meaning it would never have had without you. God bless you for the gift of that song to so many of us who only met you through the film of your chorus. "And tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can't replace. When you love someone and it goes to waste. Could it be worse? Lights will guide you home..." Forever in love, Chris Tyrell Canada
  • lights will guide you home

  • I just heard the news about Fred and I am so sorry. i loved this movie and this was such a special part of it. Rest in Peace and loving condolences to your family and friends.

  • Rest in Peace Fred.

  • This was the most powerful part of the movie. RIP Fred Knittle.

  • fred you'll be missed , but never forgotten!

  • I am sorry sorry to hear of Fred's death. RIP+

  • R.I.P. Fred... =(

  • Never really heard the words in this great song until Fred sang them. Holy smokes; three days ago I heard this story on (NPR or Air America???) and heard him singing. I've been gone from that town for 21 years and it's still an amazingly powerful source of meaning--What a beautiful voice and musical group--

  • ich glaube sogar chuck norris wäre ein bischen berührt!

  • This was an amazing moment in the film. For anyone who's come upon this video without knowing the context or having seen the film, please do. I defy anyone not to feel both teary and uplifted by this.

  • Fred was an incredible person - raised millions of dollars for deaf children in his professional career - and then retired and created another career entertaining thousands. I was proud to know him and I'll miss his jokes!

  • I just heard that Fred Knittle died today. I wanted to listen to his performance one more time. Thank you Fred for this heart felt gift you gave to the world. God Bless.

  • They Played this at my uncle's funeral T_T

  • So moving....Beautiful!

  • Oh my goodness that is so beautiful. I've got goosebumps and everything.

  • Very nice indeed.

  • c'est fantastique!bravo tout simplement!et j'encourage fortement ce type de rassemblement!

  • Very touching performance of a beautiful song.

  • I just saw the documentary on big screen.... I was blown awayu with the whole thing: a laugh and a tear, life and death, .... beautiful, and it shows that life doens't need to end @ 60 of 65... for these guys, it STARTED there!!!!

  • i saw it on big screen like two days ago in paris nice film

  • the documentary was very sad - great version of coldplays classic tune though.

I believe sadly the man singing passed away a short time after this recording was made.

    very moving.....

  • Sad to say the man singing is did not die. While he is failing recently, he is still alive.

    Thanks for your concern

  • i saw the film "young @ heart" and he actually did die... that was his last live performance...

  • Actually Fred continued to perform after this movie was made albeit on a limited basis. He lived and performed for quite sometime after and passed away on January 1, 2009.

  • He has a rich, powerful voice that makes you really think about how you can relate to this song...and yes, everybody can!

  • Gracias por compartir esto con nosotros, las lagrimas tambien bajan por mi cara...

  • I saw the documentary in TV today. I never have cried of something in TV, but this did. Very touching. And deep respect for a man who fights for his life and doesn't have much more time to live - gives so much of himself.

  • It's like when Johnny Cash sang "Hurt." Suddenly, the song is supplemented with a depth of character and experience that the first version didn't have. Kudos to Coldplay; they're terrific, and I love the original recording on _X&Y_ (their best album, in my opinion), but Chris Martin won't have this kind of effect for another 30 or 40 years.

    Pax Christi, y'all!!

  • He tells this story so beautifully through song. So meaningful, I cry with him.

  • grande!!!!!!

  • I manage to tear up every single time I watch this....

  • My entire body was covered with goosebumps while I was watching this. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life.

  • Beautiful.

  • Incredible.

  • that was really heartwarming

  • The elderly don't deserve to be cooped up in homes to wither, but to be celebrated, Bob you rock for showing the rest of us how to build a generational bridge.

  • it makes me cry

    the voice touching my mind

    what a moving moment..

  • I just watched this movie and cried like a baby through half of it. It's just so great that there are people like that out there. Bless them all!

  • I actually prefer this version to Coldplay's. Fred rocks. I just saw the movie last night...and it was amazing, beautiful, joyful, sad, every emotion in the book.

  • I can't stand Coldplay at all. Yet I love this. Very moving. x

  • Beautiful!

  • I find myself unable to stop watching this cut and damned if I don't tear up each and every time I watch it.

Light will guide us all home one day.

Bob Cilman, I hope you view these responses because there are fewer and fewer REAL HEROES around these days but you are a very special and amazing hero whether you know it or not. You really are. My new aspiration is to be involved with this group one day, just give me a few years.

  • I saw it with my parents, 85 and 84. we cried, laughed, and left the movie room with new view of life and death, wishing to meet and hug all these great persons

  • love this moment...

  • WOW WOW WOW ez elképesztő! :D

  • I saw this on tv, really upsetting but lovely. His friend who was meant to sing this with him, died that morning =[ poor guy

  • Every last person in this movie deserves more than an academy award. this movie is a must see by everyone. I watched it with my teenage daughter and we both loved it, although I'm the one who cried like an infant. that guy who put this group together is a more than a hero, he's a savior.

  • for his wee buddy...moving stuff

  • This a very moving clip and the elderly gentleman sang the song from his heart it seems. Beautiful, sad and comforting all at the same time.......

  • i cried so hard during this movie...gosh

  • I was also a mess ! This movie was sad but GREAT !

  • So touching...

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • honestly, i prefer this than the original sung by coldplay :P

  • I bought the movie this weekend, and loved it. The members of this group are so amazing, and the songs take on so much more meaning when they sing them.

  • Whoa, that was extremely moving ....I haven't seen the movie, but I will now.

  • oh please do, its beautiful and the story behind this scene ...its so heartbreaking

  • I never actually saw this movie, but this song is so much more meaningful when coming from this guy than it is from the actual band...very nice.

  • I love that movie.

  • I was so moved!

  • pwnage!

  • This is one of the most sincere and moving performances that I have ever seen.

  • i almost think they're better than coldplay

  • An inspirational group of people, and as for Fred - what a voice!

*Very highly recommended Doco/Movie - stunning!

  • Fred You Are The Best!

  • GREAT, THE BEST.

  • I loved this movie so much...amazingly done. This performance was incredible.

  • when i saw this in the theater i was crying so much i thought i was going to have to leave the room.. and fix you makes me cry anyway

  • Gets me every time. Man if Barack Obama didn't make you cry with pride and heart, this sure will.

  • the story behind this is so emotional, bring s tear to my eye every time x

  • This is the real deal, folks. All you tossers who want to diminish it will someday find what you have missed. I predict this movie will be around 100 years from now, and this song sums it all up. Sit back and enjoy.

  • ... beautiful... nothing can describe the purity of such a moment

  • wonderful... very heart warming..

  • this song was the worst moment when i saw the movie. ;(( i cried and cried and cried..;((

    beatiful movie..so beatifull.

  • Argh! Meant for my comment to go to the tosser that was bagging him out. Ignore below comments. Was not meaning the poor old dude.

  • beautiful :(

  • Anybody that watch this and post stupid comments knowing that this is an old man who is fighting for his life and still giving his all to pay tribute to his fallen friends is an idiot who doesnt deserve to breathe oxygen.

  • Shivers

  • I think you should be the one put out of misery. You are an ignorant, and miserable idiot.

  • Youre shit. Go die.

  • You're shit. Go die.

  • people like are shit. nothing else. no heart no brain. nothing but pure shit.

  • By the way this comment is for ALL the people with nasty comments about this great video.

This is a great movie and very very moving.

  • I cry everytime I see this. Such a beautiful group of people and song.

  • I finally got to see it this weekend, and I must say it is one of the most inspiring movies any person can see in their lifetime! It embodies the desire to live. The sheer will and determination to live on for something that truly is fulfilling to one's soul.

  • Saw it last night and can only recommend it! A great documentary of great people!

  • wow

  • AN AMAZING PERFORMANCE

  • Such an awesome video, the people it shows at 1:12 are the family of his late duet partner, I think its a great send off for him.

  • you are such a douche. for this guy its not about 'getting far'

what a total moron. how could u be that short minded.

  • boring troll, come up with something new

  • wtf iz ur problem yew fukn retarded shithead

  • Its amazing to see what a fucking cruel little asshole you are, abbotblues...Making jokes of a dying mans obeisity??? Maybe he's got a thyroid problem which effects 45% of our population...Not that your even open minded enough to think before you open that shithole you call a mouth.

Be aware that the only reason your breathing right now is because your a coward who hides behind a keyboard...If you'de ever like to find out what Im talking about PVT message me & I'll deliver you to your maker

  • That was great

I saw this on a Nightline on ABc

He was suppose to do a duet with another young at heart member, but sadly his duet partner passed away before the performance,RIP,

Young at Heart are awesome people

  • Cant help to notice the delay being perfect :)

  • how is he?

  • The film isn't about the comedy of old people singing modern songs. It's goes past that, and shows how we all are the same deep down. We are truly all young at heart.

  • A tear jerking performance! But what a set of singing stars! Inspirational!

  • COOL!

  • I cried. The words have quite a weight coming from someone who needs a machine to help himself breath. I mean, he is singing the words "I will try to 'fix' you" and "lights will guide you".

  • The guy who does this is so much better than Chris Martin's verison

  • I just finished watching that movie, and I didn't cry (surprising...) but I got that wave of happiness that floods down your body. This is one of my favorite movies.

  • This is on the same scale of Johnny Cash's rendition of NIN's "Hurt". absolutely wonderful.

  • The movie was sooooo sad. I rarely cry watching a movie that is non-fiction (don't know why?) but I cried watching this movie.

  • I was goin through some tough times and when I saw this video. I had my face streaming with tears automatically but at the same time it helped me smile again.

  • It just goes to show that music can bring out the best in everyone. You can really see the emotion coming from this group of people.

  • Incredible.

  • That's fucking hard... great

  • magic ... pure magic

  • HEART FELT AND AMAZING

  • SO BEAUTIFUL! oh my!

  • I saw this movie today really beautiful...this song is done amazingly by fred what a wonderful voice. wow.

  • the film was awesome . they are great... its so sad that we are daying so fast

  • i nearly cried in the cinema watching this. fix you always touched me in a special way. this is sooo sad. makes me think of my dead grandparents...

  • wonderful...love has no age limit....Thanks for posting.

    Wayne in Texas.

  • Now this as blown me away...fantastic....so moving

  • This is great. There's a video on Youtube called, something like, I Jumped in the River, it's a different ballgame in many ways, a punky song with a narrated story but what a character. She sounds like a hell of a person to have known. Our care homes really should have artists and musicians knocking on the door. These people have so much to offer.

  • it was suppoed to be a duet but his partner died...

  • It`s my grandmother`s 82nd birthday today.

I dedicate this one to her.

Older people are not a waste, but buckets and buckets of wisdom. What an inspiration this choir is!"Lights will guide you home"

  • he got really saddy voice and it beautiful... i love the young@heart... its mad... ;)

  • i had a lump in my throat watching this - i wonder if he was thinking about anyone in particular when he was singing it... the film is coming out this friday 17th can't wait to see it

  • I watched this at my local library, and was not in the least ashamed to weep in public from viewing it

  • chills... cry... saddest thing ever. best cover of it but no one beats chris martin <3

  • he's got that johnny cash thing going on

  • i cryed like a little kid in that movie..

one of the best movies ever

  • true that

  • I recently saw the movie at the cinema and... when it came to that part I thought God help me, don't let me cry with all the people surrounding me... it's overwhelming.

  • When I first saw this my grandfather had just passed away, I am a male nurse and took care of him the last few days before his death. It all came full circle in a sort and I came apart at the seams as this is how I felt during those last few nights staying up with him just him and I, I had 15 years experiance as a nurse but, could not fix him though I prayed I could and was angry and ashamed that I was helpless. This was to say the least "Heartfelt" "GodSpeed Grandpa Sherrill"
