It is idealistic to think that all horses can be barefoot. We have domesticated horses and ask them to do more that roam the prairie, work horses, show horses, racehorses and many horses with issues require shoes. Farrier work is far more than just good trimming now. Good trimming, good diet and hoof care is the core there is much that can be done with corrective trimming, but it is not always the answer for every horse. Each is an individual, different needs & should be treated that way.
Unfortunately there are still people who are ignorant and think that Laminitis is a death sentence. We have two horse that are now horses that "use to be laminitic.' But it takes education, time, expense and patience. Although many of our horses are barefoot not all horses because of their history can be.. especially the TB's. But to now treat laminitis when there is so much success now... well I guess that is just someone who does not care.. I would suggest attending some of the conferences.
Amazing the comments on here. You have no idea what you're looking at or talking about. Amazing ignorance. I feel bad for people who follow the strict dogma of barefoot nonsense instead of science. An open mind is a mind which is willing to learn. Horses like these do not recover with a proper trim no matter what kind of junk science may be posted on you tube to "prove" it.
There is a time and a place for a barefoot horse.....severe founder is not one of them. This is a great concept Doc, I would love to see how these feet grew out.
No amount of time spent watching Doc Redden working can reveal the complete understanding of the way a horses' hoof functions the way Doc Redden understands it. His knowledge and experience is immense and what can't be taught is his intuition. This is a man who when he treats a horse at his clinic observes every detail in the wind around that horse. He is the closest thing to a hoof whisperer we have and a complete veterinary science genius. Don't criticize what you don't understand.
this fellow shoeing the horse has probably saved more horses than you`ve ever seen and has deviced noumerous good treatments for many a hoof problem and he is also a vet + if you didnt notice he did x rays before and after aplying the shoe package. this horses problem is ONLY going to be helped mechanicly no barefoot BS is going to help anny condition like this horse has until hell freezes over.!
@hoofrise how did he make this horses life worse?
