This is the Blues, pure and unadulterated. God doesn't make them like Tommy McClennan anymore. Sure, there are still a couple of them around, such as Honeyboy Edwards and Pinetop Perkins, but that distinctive sound you get from the likes of Mr. McClennan just ain't around these days.
@rmurbach1961 At least Pinetop managed to become a full grown man, almost reaching 98 years "young" - I saw him in 2009, playing live with other people from several Muddy Waters' old band line ups. He was still a hellcat at the time, amazing guy. Sadly yet another of the guys from that line-up, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, passed away last september, 75 years old. He too, was so powerful that night. An incredible show, as I would believe any show on that tour must have been. Respect.
These men moved through a pretty dangerous world of street corners and roadhouses and most of them would carry a blade for protection.Tommy looks like the kind of cat you wouldn't have wanted to mess with.Great upload.
@bluesborn LOl true, so true...my grandfather told me he was a short man to boot. My grnad pops was very light skinned and guys with those two issues almost always carried something. It was a harsh place to be back then....thats how Robert Johnson died, insecure hateful and jelous men often gathered in those places...had to be packin or you would surly have a prob....
this is a great song. I thought this is where godsmack got the song Reefer Headed Woman, just as cool. check it out
