  • Hi! Is it the VM 2266 or the 2246?

I have the VM 2266c :) It´s awsome ^^ But I´d love to have a whole setup too but... money!!!!! xD

  • Hey man, what amp do you like more? The mesa or the VM? I have the VM 50 watt head but idn if i should sell it for a mesa, peavey 6505, or the new dean dime amp. I play mostly 80s based rock and metal, Yngwie, Dokken, Megadeth, Metallica, Dream Theater

  • @TheStark808

To be honest I love both amps for different reasons. They are really different beasts and you can't compare them. Its like asking a driver if they like a 4x4 or a sports car. The VM has that really cool 80s Marshall Hard Rock sound thats good for all the hair metal of that era. The Mesa is much darker and heavier with a lot more grind and edge. Perfect for nu metal and detuned riffing. The mesa is more versatile though. Go test them out and see which one you like.

  • @GATvsGAT Can the marshall VM handle down tuned kind of stuff without a pedal? or is just really like an 80s hair metal kind of amp?? Cheers!!

  • @Danstreettssssss

    G'day

Lets put it this way. You won't blow the amp up if you put a detuned guitar through it so yeah it'll handle low tunings fine. Its got quite a loose rounded bottom end so it won't have that tight punch you'd get from a Mesa Boogie but then again I like the sound of a detuned guitar through the VM. Its probably even better without an overdrive boost in this situation as it will retain the clarity of the tone. So in short the VM should be fine with detuning.

  • @GATvsGAT any excercises youd recommend for right hand speed and pick and fret hand coordination excercises, i know its a big subject but a few pointers would be a great help, cheers man you sound amazing

  • @strabbs1

This is a really useful way of getting that whole synchronized technique thing down. I've borrowed it from Paul Gilbert who borrowed it off Yngwie Malmsteen. Start really slow using purely up and down alternating strokes

E String-------8-5-7-8-7-5 (in the key of A minor)

    And then..

    E String---- 7-4-5-7-5-4 (also in A minor)

Practice playing the two likes together in cycles of 4 each.

When you get real tight and fast with it you can apply it to other scalar runs!

  • @GATvsGAT hey thanks for spending the time to write that out for me, its very much appreciated, obviously i move this across a the strins not just the e string?? again thanks a lot, iam of to wood shed!!

  • @strabbs1

Correct. I just wrote out the E string as it helps when first starting out to just focus on one string and getting the notion of alternate picking down tight. Once comfortable you can start applying it to multi string scalar runs and do whatever you like.

  • I thought you were pretty laid back in the video and just having fun. I dug the speed actually. I do have some speed myself, but I know I don't play that fast.

Wondering if you had any advice on increasing playing speed. thanks for the video!

  • Hello there

Yeah I was just having fun and enjoying goofing around. As for the speed thing, listen to guys like yngwie malmsteen, paul gilbert, michelangelo batio, john petrucci etc and try to learn some of their more signature licks/techniques. Start slowly and build it up. Van Halen and Randy Rhoads are also a brilliant source of inspiration and technique.

  • too much notes..no feeling

  • Prob some truth to that statement.

  • hey dude i have a recto and was thinking about gettin a Marshall, do u think the vm would do metal and sweet Marshall better than the recto as the recto does metal but not blues tones, what amp do u prefer?

  • hey hey

Personally I would not swap a recto for a VM. I'm fortunate enough to have both amps and I know what you mean about the Recto being quite metal like.

The VM is a great amp but it is also not very versatile. It will do blues sounds really really well. To do metal with it you'll need either a power attenuator and/or a good OD box pushing the front end. The FX loop on a VM is not the best when it comes to delay sounds. Either way good luck.

  • A real product dude.

Go try one out! I think an awesome player like you would love it.

  • man your REALLY having fun lol!!

I have an Ibanez PGM301, im after that paul gilbert kinda tone, is the VM for me?

  • Yeah man!! Gotta have fun with that guitar!

PG used Laney amps for a large part of his career namely the GH100L. These days he uses a Marshall VM with (from what I last heard) an OCD overdrive boost. Either way he always seems to sound the same regardless of what amps or guitar he is using.

  • You will never get tone like that out of a Vintage Modern.

  • Whaddaya talkin' bout Willis???! Of course you can get a tone like that out of a VM. I just did it.

  • Nice playing

  • Amazing playing! What song are you playing with the Boss DD-20 at the second part of the video, and do you think you could make a video on how to play it? Thanks, and keep it up!

  • Hey thanks! I'm very pleased that you like it! The song is called Distances. An original that I wrote for my girlfriend at the time. The song really reminds me of a very special union and unfortunately I don't feel yet entirely ready to teach the world how to play it. I'm sorry about that. You are the 2nd person to ask me to tab it/demo it in the last week so I will take this as a sign and I will post a demo on how to play something very much like it so stay tuned.

    Again thank you. Keep watchn

  • That's some great talent in that song too, writing it and playing it, and I'll be looking forward to when you make a video or tab on it!

  • Stay tuned

  • Great playing.

Wich one do you prefer, theJCM2000 or The Vintage Modern ?

I want buy a VM, can you find the tone of a JCM800 with theVM ?

    Thank you.

  • Hello

I sold my JCM 2000 and kept my VM. That pretty much says it all. The VM is a less versatile amp but it is far superior in tone. The JCM800 is a good amp but I'd still go with the VM. Go get one.

  • Thanks a lot, i really like the VM i don't want a vesatile tone (i have my 3Channel Laney TT50H for this), i want a pure marshall tone, and this VM is fuckin good!!

So when i got the money i'll buy one (it's your fault, you get the tone lol)

    Thank you and keep rockin'

  • You can't!!

Some things are just made magnificently.

  • Wow a technique compliment from the man John Denner himself!

Thanks dude. It means a lot.

    You Rock 2!

  • Nice playing, and tone. What's your setup in these songs? Any external boosting or eq done to the Vintage Modern?

  • A power attenuator!!!

  • Uhm really nice you can play o so fast, but it sounds like shit...

Cuz, although you play scales and stuff, it sounds nothing nice or melodic.

  • I guess we can't all be everything to everybody.

  • what's that peavey head?

    great playing, keep on ;)

  • Its a super crusty old but oh so awesome Peavey Ultra 60 from the late 80s. Has hheeeeaaaaaaappps of gain on the Ultra Channel. I'm thinking of selling it.

  • Dude, this video makes me laugh so much in the "metal part." You're so funny. Not to mention much better at metal than I'll ever be, despite my best efforts.

And extra props for the Paul Gilbert guitar.

    Awesome!

  • Yeah I am such a funny looking guy that I can't keep a straight face in the mirror either!!

  • Hahaha... I love the "waaaah waaah waaaaaaaah" and "did I mention waaaaaank waaaaaaaank waaaaaaaank?" balloons.

    My favorite part for sure.

  • theres nothing like a little self indulgence..

  • Holy crap youre so good, how long have you been playing?

  • Hey thanks buddy

I've been playing way too long and should be heaps better!! You keep rockin now ya hear!

  • Great playing man, no fooling. As for your vibrato I thought it was pretty bangin' technique and had a just barely tamed feel to it that suited the shreddage. I really dug it, just saying that there's always gonna be hacks in the crowd who need to compare dick size with everybody else. Keep 'em rollin' bro!

  • Hey hey dude!!

thanks for watching my vid! You have no idea how good it feels to get some positive vibrato comments. Merry Axemas and keep rocking!!

  • Are you in a band?

  • I'm flying solo dude. Hard to find like minded musos around these parts.

  • damn, your one hell of a musicsian, great fuckin job!

  • Hey thanks. Playing guitar music is good for ones health! rock on!

  • Damn badd ass vid man,Rock on

  • Hey thanks dude!

Thats a pretty damn bad ass light sabre you've there!

    Rock on!

  • Just because you're playing fast doesn't mean you have to bend your vibrato fastly. Slow it down and make it sound elongated and controlled. Tone isn't bad though.

  • Hey man. you're the second guy to comment on my vibrato technique. I think you should put out a video demonstrating good vibrato. Seriously. I'm not taking the piss. If you have any constructive and excellent vibrato tips then I'm all ears.

  • if that isn't constructive critism i dont know what is. Be open to other peoples opinions about your playing. I think youre great.

  • I guess in my book there is no such thing as being to good to learn new things. Its the only way to improve

  • Oh shut the hell up and play..

  • Same to you

  • what wah pedal did you use? nice playing

  • It is a Boss PW10 digital wah wah pedal. You like it? The Marshall Vintage Modern seems to work really well with a wah pedal. I find that it brings out the sweep of a wah pedal in a way that I've never heard another amp come close to doing.

  • yea, i agree. i'm not too much of a fan of digital wah stuff like auto wahs, and that, but it sounds like a nice crybaby

  • I'm not a huge fan of auto wahs either. I guess they have their place though.. The PW10 is not an auto wah and works in the same way as a standard manual wah but is able to convincingly model famous wah pedals. In this vid it is set to the Morley model which has a much more dramatic tone sweep than the crybaby model. My dream wah is a Dimebag Crybaby from Hell. Go check one out!!

  • i've tried that, nice pedal, but i prefer the Zakk Wylde or Fulltone Clydes. they have a sweet sweep sound. :)

  • I like the sound that you got from the vintage marshall how would you recomend setting a marshall DSL100?

  • Hey thanks. glad you like the tone. As for DSL settings, theres nothing wrong with the way that you're setting it on your vids. Everybody has their own preference for settings. I like lead 1 of channel 2 cos its much more versatile. I set the gain around 2/3 up and I prefer to get the most "direct" signal out of the amp hence I don't use the tone shift. I set my presence on 10, treble around 2/3, mid 1/3, bass 2/3. No reverb.

  • im thinking of getting a VM but i keep seeing people modifying them, what are the problems you find? and also are there any other marshall heads you find better?

  • Hey hey

No need to mod a VM to make it good. Its great stock!! Go try one and see/hear for yourself.

The only prob that I find with the VM is that its not the most versatile amp out there. In terms of better heads that depends on what kind of music you play. I can't recommend other better heads cos the VM is a great amp. If you want bang for the buck and high versatility with quality get a JCM 2000 DSL or any other multi channel valve head by Marshall,Peavey or Bugera

    Take care!!

  • Was the first heavy distortion coming from the Marshall vintage modern or one of the other amps?

  • From the VM dude!! Helping it along with a power attenuator

  • excellent ^^

  • Thanks!! :-)

    Keep rockin!!

  • For all you YouTubers that were able to endure the subtitles and enjoyed the Echo Ballad in this vid, check out Distances (new version) by username badacidbadacid.

  • all those subtitles were gay...

  • That was the whole point!
